Many of today's favorites are candidates to win the Champions League, as the preliminary round is still in progress. Arsenal, PSG, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Inter Milan have the full support of most of the other contenders. Their chances of reaching the round of 16 are very likely, as they possess a strength that is difficult to underestimate.

Yes, just making it to the round of 16 is an achievement, but that's for a team that has only recently entered the UCL. For veterans like Real Madrid, it's a common occurrence and shouldn't be considered an achievement, as their standard is to win the league.

Atletico Madrid is far from what it was when they faced Liverpool in last season’s champions league, they were a much better team than we have now and yet, they aren’t a bad team either. Considering how they humiliated Real Madrid in the Laliga, one would have a better hope that Atletico Madrid would be able to get something out of their Arsenal fixture, especially how the first half ended in a draw.
So, you can imagine the surprise when Arsenal came came with the goals galore.

Arsenal are a very good team especially defensively, they are actually favourites to win the PL so beating Atletico was not a surprise to me. Maybe the scoreline was unexpected but that can happen in a game sometimes. Atletico is already 8 points behind Real in La Liga after only 9 games so they are not currently a team in the greatest form.

Someone said something yesterday about EPL teams dominating the champions league and this is just one provable reason for me to believe it. A strong defense of such was not even ready to open up any space for a counter, let alone a goal. 4 goals to nil is not surprising, considering Atm's current form for this season, Ajax may still get away with a goal or two as well.

@Smartvirus; Humiliating one big team in the local league (especially from the same league) doesn't prove anything.. When you want to be called a champion, you have to prove that you can play in any competition, with any team. Again, does this also mean that an ATM player would take so long to adjust if they were signed into the premiership?

I think that over time, Gyokeres will manage to perform sharply and score many goals just like before, which will eventually allow him to meet expectations. It must be admitted that this season Arsenal has managed to build a quite ideal squad depth, they have spent a large budget in the transfer market, and luckily their performance has been quite consistent. Meanwhile, not only is the front line performing well, Arsenal defense is also very solid, where so far Arsenal has not conceded a single goal in the Champions League.

Arsenal winning any trophy this season is going to be because of how good their defence is and not their attack because they don't have the best attack in  any of the leagues or competitions that they're playing in but for defence, there isn't any club that's currently better than Arsenal. Victor Gyökeres has being very poor and hasn't put on a decent performance despite him having some goals but I think his poor form was due to some of the key players not being available like Saka but now that he's back into the team. Victor Gyökeres will begin to see more goal scoring opportunities because of the chances that'll be created for him.

The scoreline was a complete lie, all the goals were scored in a span of 10/15 minutes, it was a comple nightmare for the Atletico Madrid team and a blissfull minutes for the Arseanl team. So i dont thin we have to trust the score at all, it doesnt match with the game.

Anyways Arsenal played well better than Atletico which the only plan they have was put a super defense and you see, dont work well in the end.

Leverkusen must be really missing Xabi Alonso a lot... Since he left the team have been in terrible shape. Maybe it's because of bad management by team officials. Sacking ten Hag in only 2 weeks is still a thing I don't understand.

Something is rotten in that Leverkusen team after Xabi left — they’re simply not a fraction of what they used to be, even though most of the players stayed. I know PSG are a monster of a team and title contenders this season, but conceding 7 goals in a 10 vs. 10 match is really shameful from Leverkusen. There are opposite development directions of PSG and Bayer Leverkusen in two latest seasons. PSG with Enrique management and their club's strategic changes some latest seasons, have become stronger and more competitive so that they were able to win UEFA Champions League, destroyed big clubs like Inter Milan and Real Madrid. Therefore, it's not big surprise to see PSG destroyed Bayer Leverkusen.

Bayer Leverkusen have had an opposite trend than PSG as their quality and competitiveness have declined in the last season and continued to decline more with Xabi Alonso and some players' departures from their club last summer. They are no longer be able to compete with Bayern Munich for Bundesliga title and in Champions League, they are not competitive enough to perform well against big clubs there including PSG.

It's their bad habit but it can be changed like how Chelsea, Manchester City and PSG changed themselves over time and from simply rich clubs with abundant money and star players, they have all lifted UEFA Champions League titles. Arsenal can change their mentality, improve their performance consistency and win big titles. They might win titles in this season or in future seasons, let's say as I believe they have been in an upward development trend with Arteta management.

Atletico Madrid's performance has never been promising when playing at home except against Real Madrid, defeated 0-4 by Arsenal show how weakness Atletico's mentality teams and Arsenal seems not difficult until scoring four goals without any goal conceded yet. Arsenal still stronger this season won 3 matches in Champion League and not defeating yet in domestic league, I doubt how many matches later Arsenal keep consistent and will finish at first place in Champion League phase round behind 5 matches left?

It challenge for Arsenal reach higher round after last season eliminating at semifinal round by PSG, will this season reach final round or still impossible for winning Champion League and become the only top fourth premier league team not winning UCL. Arsenal last qualified for the UCL final in the season 2005/06 but in the final round defeating by Barcelona.

This is inseparable from PSG's strength, which is far superior to Leverkusen. I think that's the only reason PSG can win matches easily against Leverkusen. I don't think the Ligue 1 and Bundesliga competitions can be compared; it's simply a matter of the strength of the two teams.

Leverkusen hasn't been much better this season, especially since the change of manager at the start of the season indicated that the team made mistakes when Xabi Alonso left. They are now in the process of strengthening themselves. However, I realistically think it won't be easy in the Champions League, considering the strength of their squad.

Meanwhile, PSG this season is similar to last season. They still have quite good strength and are even favorites to win the title. However, I still believe it will be difficult for any team to defend their Champions League title. After the arrival of Ten Hag, Leverkusen went into a very bad situation, which is why Leverkusen cut ties with Ten Hag. They still haven't fully recovered from that bad situation. Although Leverkusen has won a few games since Kasper Hjalman joined the team, they are still not a strong team to fight against PSG in the Champions League. There is nothing surprising in such a result against PSG, as a team they are a very, very weak team than PSG. There is nothing for them in the Champions League this season, they should go out on the field now looking for a few wins, because I don't think they are a worthy team for the Round of 16.

Mbappe and Rodrygo play in the same position, but Real Madrid is giving Mbappe more priority than Rodrygo, due to which Rodrygo is sitting, while Mbappe is playing in the regular eleven. After Karim Benzema left, Real Madrid has always been lacking a good quality finisher. Real Madrid brought Mbappe to the team as a worthy replacement for Karim Benzema, but Mbappe is not able to finish like Karim Benzema. Apart from this problem, another problem of the Real Madrid team is injuries. If one returns from injury, another important player gets injured and leaves the field, which is why the performance of this team is not consistent.

You know that the Champions League is a different ball game compared to the Bundesliga, so I wouldn't say that Bayer Leverkusen isn't that good in European competitions, because the first time Bayer Leverkusen played European competition with Xabi Alonso, they ended as the runner up in the Europa League. In my opinion, Bayer Leverkusen doesn't have good squad depth to play in the Champions League and win their matches as they used to in the Bundesliga.

Everything has started with losing so many important players. They sold nearly all their important players last summer. That was a disaster for the team!

Dortmund have also faced this so many times in team history. Lewandowski, Haaland, Bellingham...
