What's the point of feeling regret here? Because I don't see any, we have two gamblers in the picture who use their money to place a bet. Their money, their decision. If the game is not directly playing according to how you planned it, or somehow you have a change of heart and decide to cash out, it's something you don't need to regret irrespective of how the game outcome turns out to be. Even if you did not cash out and the game ended negatively, there is still no point in regretting it, just like you not placing a bet at all and the game you intended to be on playing just like you predicted. This is gambling; grab what you can. Whichever one you are able to cash out is never yours.

It's understandable with how gamblers already assume possession of the potential win immediately the bet is made even when the games have not started. The wail for the potential win more than they do about the amount they used in making the bet, except for the irresponsible gambler who uses beyond what he can afford to lose, his wailing is both on the amount in bet and the potential winning that was lost.

My take is that, no regrets about what happens with our bets should last beyond 24hrs, at most 48hrs should be enough to move on.

You are saying the fact but it is easier said than to be done. Think about it, what we are talking about here is gambling (events that has a force within your emotions) even though you may be in control of it.

I can tell you for free that there is always that feeling of (had I know) at the point of every games outcome whether you wins or looses because I have had experiences of players saying "they wished they have wagered higher so they would had gotten higher profits after winning. I understand the point you both are making; it's easier to say something than to do that thing. In gambling, we decide who we are to bet on, right? And we are to use an amount that we are supposed to be comfortable with losing, in this case described in the OP, but the OP and the friend made their own decision.

If there is anything to regret here, it's coming from the unsatisfied nature of man; irrespective of how something turns out to be, you will also have that thought in you of not being content. So I had this bad experience where I played Real Madrid to win, arsenal to win and Juventus to win or draw and so the first game, been arsenal entered and then Real Madrid and Juventus started the same time and so I was following them up and I played the game NGN 5000 to win NGN32000. There was an extent I followed the game up I was angry the way Juventus was playing, once they equalize union giloise will score and it was annoying so at 90 minutes I cash out NGN 400 because I was so angry only for me to check back and saw 4:4 that was the most annoying part and I think if I would have gone to bed I wouldn't have cash out the game. So I think most times the only way to avoid this is by going to bed and forget about it but sometimes you need to stay up to monitor the game.

There is no logic in regretting about win, loss and cash out in gambling. It is true We don't know anything about the future so that betting cannot be predicted in advance which team will win, it is only possible to guess. You have reasons to feel regretful and that’s already enough to feel that way. Your friend missed a big win even if he managed to to take some profit while you on the other hand lose everything while you have the opportunity to cashout.

Your case is just more painful because you lose everything including your bankroll.

Like some has already mentioned, you and your friend might be gambles, but you cannot have same reason to feel regrets. You play your games in different ways, using different risk management plan. Your friend might have been greedy in a way, because honestly if the game had not continued he would have been happy and said he had the skill in him. So I don't see any reason for him to be sad or complaining about his past game instead of moving on to the next one. And if he actually uses the mindset of his previous game to play his next, I can assure you he would loss. He might be thinking as well that he will have to let the next game play completely only to find out that the game ends in loss..

Wondering why op friend will show much regret towards cashout, the cashout option is seen as an alternative besides gamblers in general only focus on this option when they think the game will end bad. Cashing out is not bad, I see no reason why anyone will crash out to an extend although the fact the game ended good after cashing out sounds painful but, comparing both situation op made a mistake by trusting a team 100%. Definitely you should feel more regret, I read similar topic and the best advice is always cashout your capital first in order to avoid regret I guess if anyone should get angry then the main focus was on the profit.
