Both gamble, both take risks but the mindset is different.
For me a gambler plays for fun or thrill, sometimes just to pass the time. Nothing wrong with that but emotions usually take over, chasing losses, betting on impulse, or just playing for the rush.

A player on the other hand treats gambling like a skill game.
They aim to win study the odds improve their strategy, manage their bankroll and learn from every result.

Personally, I like to see myself as a player not just throwing bets for fun but with discipline and a plan. Still, I admit there are times I get caught up in the excitement

How about you guys? Do you consider yourself a gambler or a player?

Gambler for sure. I go for the gold most of the time or I just am not happy. Gotta get that dopamine pumping. I start as player to build the balance and then go for the gusto.

If you're playing strictly disciplined, you have a better chance of being up weekly, but you'll likely never make life changing money.

A player and also a gambler.

I also admit that sometimes I get too angry, especially when I don't see any sign of RTP while playing slots. It's like the feeling of being cheated, and I don't like that.
But I won't go as far as chasing my losses until all my savings are gone. Not even to use the money that is meant for something important. I know a gambler would probably try to sacrifice that money too because they will think that they might double it or maybe more.

In sports betting, I do gamble differently. As much as possible, try to read the result of the game, and maybe it will increase my chance of winning.

Most people will claim themselves as a player, but the reality most of them is a gambler.

Honestly trying to be a "player" is more than many thing you mentioned above, what you mentioned above are just the basic. When we learn something new, it doesn't make us to be a pro, it just make us to understand.

Being a player will take a lot time to learn depth, it might make them need to quit from their job because it really takes a lot time to be a professional.

From your definition, I don't fit into either category. Because, on one hand, I manage my bankroll with precision and I never spend beyond the limit I planned, but on the other hand I don't treat gambling as a skill game: I just take that money as a cost, like the money I spend in beer or cinema tickets, and not an investment, and I don't study the odds or try to improve my strategy, I just do what I feel like.

So perhaps I'm more of a gambler than a player, attending to your definitions, but a gambler with clear limits.

If you define a player and a gambler that way, then I’d say I’m more like a player now because I can manage my capital every month without being controlled by my emotions. I wasn’t a player from the start I began as a gambler. But after realizing the negative effects of gambling, like losing money, time, and focus, I knew I had to change. Over time, I managed to break that habit and slowly became a disciplined player instead.

OP with your own definition of a player and a gambler. I would consider myself a player and not a gambler, I do gamble with discipline and my motive of gambling is not for fun. I don't think the part were u said gambler do gamble for fun and then chase after losses is correct. Those that do gamble for fun don't really chase after losses since there motive wasn't to make profit but rather to have fun. So it will be wrong to say that some one whose aim of is to have fun will be chasing after losses.

When it comes to gambling you can be whatever you think you want to be based on your interest but the most important irrespective of how you want to go about gambling, Just try to be responsible in your gambling activity. You can decide just to be a player or gambler, no problems about this but if the understanding is not their in gambling,  it doesn't really matter which one of them you fall into because you will definitely be affected by your gambling result especially when you gamble with the amount that you cant afford to lose. So, the main thing is to know your limit and never to exceed to play more or to risk more than you can afford.

I don't know about you but a "player"(as you call it) is still is a gambler(I'm not even wure why call it a "player"), they may gamble more seriously, cautiously, responsibly, etc... they still stake moneyt on a game that doesn't guarantee a win, which is what we call gambling.

If the definition about gambler and player like OP said then probably i can be both of them but the condition is depend on what games i was play and when i playing skill based game such as sport betting or poker most likely i can be considered as the player that because when i playing these games i will analyze and study every decisions which i made besides that strategies also required to gets the better results and learn from the previous mistakes to avoiding huge loss

In the other hand when i do not want to thinking too much about the strategies and analyzed for gambling probably i can considered as the gamber usually the game which i pick is slot game and to playing this game i was rely on my luck very much besides that because i do want to entertainment and fun although i want to won some money but sometimes the results is not really matter for me

Correct. Maybe this is just a personal distinction by the OP which I will not argue about.

I thinks this topic is more discussion about gambling randomly vs gambling with strategy topic which in my opinion a case to case basis matter on what’s the type of gambling preferred to play.

But I believe everyone will agree here that anyone playing casino or sportsbook is already considered a gambler like what you described.

If you're playing strictly disciplined, you have a better chance of being up weekly, but you'll likely never make life changing money.

Maybe, unless you’re setting up a decent bankroll. If professional sports bettors belong to the “player” side based on the OP’s definition, then yeah, they might actually have a chance to change their lives through their success in betting.

But that kind of big bankroll I’m talking about isn’t for everyone as not all of us can afford it, and most don’t have the confidence to risk that much money. As for me, I’m a mix of both.. sometimes a gambler, sometimes a player, but more on the gambler side since I like to have fun and be a bit reckless at times.

Based on the definition that you have, I'm more of a player than a gambler, primarily because of the mood that I would have when gambling. It's not much of a strict "only player" or "only gambler" mode, but the emotion that I'm feeling is somewhat added.

I'm pretty curious about the approach of other members' opinions on which of these types would be prone to addiction.
I consider myself a mere player. Because I just enjoy the games I play and the money I lose there I consider it as a fee for playing that game ha ha lol. Many times I win at gambling and if I stop playing during the time I allocate for gambling and I make a profit, then I withdraw them along with my profits. I consider these as a kind of gift to me. And I only lose as much as I have the ability to lose in gambling. So overall I think I am not a gambler, I am just a player. Gamblers are those who gamble regularly and whose goal is to generate passive income from it.

In my opinion, there is no such sharp distinction between the types of gamblers. In your classification, at one pole is a moron who plays without thinking at all, and at the other pole, on the contrary, is a nerd who is actually a moron because he hopes to invent a "system".
Add another type of gambler - a person who has lost to zero, but at the same time tells everyone he meets that he doesn't give a fuck about losses, because he supposedly plays for pleasure. Naturally, this is a lie. This could be true if his name was Rothschild or some other billionaire, to whom the loss of millions is really the same as a mosquito bite.
In fact, all of us have some of the traits of all three types of gamblers. And that's okay.

Surely a single word can't describe every types of gamblers but I don't think player is the right term. Gambling itself is s vague term and there are different types of gamblers and ways to gambling.
Gambling can be differentiated between sports betting or casino gambling. Casino gambling too are of various types with P2P gambling like Poker or just the gambling against the house edge.
There might be occasional gamblers or regular gamblers in both casinos or sports betting and the people who call themselves pro both in casinos or sports betting.
For me I'm a regular gambler. I do plan a bankroll and bets for a tournament or a series but I nowhere near a pro. Though I have more control over my emotions and haven't really made any unwanted bet in last couple of years.

I believe most of us are both.  Have you never placed a bet only for fun and for the sake of betting?  Some body who bets on sports and slots is both a player and a gambler according to you.

Emotions can take over no matter which of the two you are however.  They can both be as destructive.

I agree with you, There are many people who have won many times through gambling, but now they claim themselves to be good players, I think that winning by gambling does not mean being a real player. Becoming a skilled player is not that easy, to be a skilled player a person needs to spend a lot of time, deep research is needed and experience has to be gained over a long period of time. Becoming a professional player is not possible for anyone quickly, it requires a lot of skill and experience.

I don’t know, maybe I can call myself a gambler, ‘cause I’m not afraid of taking risks. But at the same time, I really admire those professional gamblers who actually make a living from it, so there’s a part of me that wants to be a player too (as defined by OP).

But most of the time, my gambler side still takes over.

How about you guys? Do you consider yourself a gambler or a player?
Every gambler is not happy when he loses but that is how the gambling is designed whether, you like it or not. I know everyone will love to be a player but do you have time to start studying something that depends more on luck. I wouldn't waste my time learning how to be a player because it's not easy and there's no guarantee that you will make long tern profit.

I think a player is one who's just playing, more than risking money for the sake of profit. A player is enjoying the game. The game matters more than the bet. A gambler, on the other hand, is somebody who's betting for the sake of the prize rather than somebody who's enjoying the game. He/she's the one who crosses fingers while anticipating the result because he/she's looking forward to the gains.

I think I'm both, depending on the mood and the specific game I'm into.

How about you guys? Do you consider yourself a gambler or a player?

can I choose both? Im a player and I know what I am doing and I make sure I learn everyday, but sometimes the gambler side of me attakcs.
I men soetimes, specially when i am playing  slots and get a huge win, I sometimes forget to withdraw some amount and chasse a bigger jackpot which ends me to nothing.

In betting sports, I am a mix of the 2 again, I know and study some games before betting and I also put a little amount as a gambler looking for a big stake.
