Gambler or Player - which one are you?

I consider myself a gambler, I don't have much patience to create strategies or study probabilities of results, I think you have to really like it to do that... I prefer to just bet and leave it to luck, what has to be, will be, without resentment, and without expecting anything in return, just for betting, simple as that.

I see myself as a gambler because I play for the thrill even though I enjoy winning which I'm sure that everyone does but for me its easier to be in the right frame of mind when you gamble only for entertainment. Working hard to be skillful with gambling all for tht purpose of trying to be profitable is very exhausting. Everyone has their preference and also what works for them, personally I prefer to gamble for fun

Gambling should be kept as entertainment and should not be overly excited, excitement, passion and greed are what lead a gambler to the path of addiction, so it should be limited to entertainment only, one should be careful in everything, a game where excitement brings addiction, so there should be limits in entertainment too, one should not get overly excited and gambling should be limited in a healthy way, just enjoy gambling.

Bro, we may have similarities, but the situations are different. I mean, I can be a gambler according to your definition when betting, because I can be disciplined by not going beyond the initial limits, even though at that time all my bets were lost completely, I could stop and plan for next week's bets. But when playing slots, I admit I often go off track, when I lose I want to chase it, I admit playing slots often disrupts my financial condition. LOL

Just so I wouldn’t confuse myself, I’d like to keep thinking of anyone who engages in gambling activities as a gambler, whether they are being strategic, searching for ways to improve their overall profits or whether are just there for the fun and thrills that comes from gambling, they are gamblers to me.

If we want to start to talk about players, then you’d probably have to switch to video gaming and I’d be more winning to accept that term but as long as we’re dealing with gambling I’m not buying that player term. They’re all gamblers, I too am a gambler if I gamble.

Gambler, I am sure I am a gambler, as I don't seek to take advantage of any edge I could have in order to make money off people or the house.
It is better for one's mental health and well-being just to see casinos as places to burn some money for the sake of fun and eventually forget about what one has lost, in the same manner we don't think about money we have all spent in partaking in leisure activities like going to the cinema or paying to enter a concert.

Though, I admit I have some admiration for what you call players.

I thought that it's different that a gambler is also a skilled one that manages to play with their skills and for them not to throw their money. Well, at most times I am a gambler and that's the reason why it's just a fun and thrilling moments for me when I gamble. And there are times that I am a player where I don't want to lose that there is nothing for me to take and so, that gives me an idea on what to improve and how to gamble better the next time that I do it because there's something that I learn from it. So, there's this the dynamics for me and it changes depending on my mood.

When I participate in gambling, I enter myself as a player, but I accept that I will not lose but win. But if I lose, I take a break to calm my mind because I have been shocked many times in the past, I have lost in gambling and tried to recover the money I lost and lost more money, so I understand that it is only foolish to try to recover the money you have lost. And when I place a bet on gambling, I accuse myself of being a player because even if I lose, I do not let my emotions run wild to recover the money I have lost.
Those who cannot control their emotions are the ones who show the most signs of addiction and lose more money.

Actually, you can interchange both of these terms. But yes, we all know that there's slight difference in terms of the degree of how a gambler or player approaches the game. For me, a gambler relies more on luck, whereas, a player, would want to calculate his chance of winning. So it means, a player will only play if he sees higher chance of winning.
On my case, I believe I am more on the side of being a player now. But on my early days, I am more on a gambler's side because I was still younger and more carefree. But now, I need to save as much as possible.

Aren't people who are engage in gambling activities called gamblers?  And these gamblers are divided into the game they played, those who are fond of skill-based gambling games like sports betting and poker while other are fond of games where the result is dictated by RNG.  Then among these gamblers are the responsible gamblers and irresponsible gamblers.  Regardless of their aim, those who engage in gambling activities whom we call gamblers, are also called players, IMHO, eg. poker player, slot player, and so on.  As far as I know, in the gambling terminology, players are used to call gamblers in a neutral label regardless of whether they are responsible or irresponsible gamblers.

If you are asking whether a gambler is playing for fun or with goal in mind, I believe I fall on playing for fun category.

What if I am seeing myself as both? because I do try to study every bet that I make and analyze them with the knowledge that I have. But, sometimes I'm trying to chase my losses when those bets have failed me. There could be some moments that I feel in a hurry and rushing those bets yet, my goal is to win some money and have fun too. That is why I could myself in both description that you've given. The mix of having fun and trying to be skilled in any game that I bet should be the nature of gambling so that we both could have earned and fun.

Seems confusing in this part, yes, there are really other people who are only playing with profits or for leisure time, fun only.

But the way you are risking and putting your money here, that makes you already a gambler, even let's say you are treating gambling as a skill game, using strategy, etc.
At the end of the day, it's still a luck game; there's still part of it that you will win based on luck.

I personally conclude that gamblers are those who gamble without excess, while addicts are those who must gamble constantly to satisfy their cravings. I believe gamblers understand the meaning of gambling, so their behavior isn't excessive, unlike addicts. As far as I know, addicts are people who must continue their habit, even when it's difficult, but they will force themselves to do so. Gamblers aren't like that.

I am a person who gambles occasionally so I don't know if I am included as a gambler or a player. I don't have a high skill in betting and when playing gambling games based on luck, I just spin the button and wait for the result. I feel that learning the analysis or searching the sources will be difficult for me so I just bet on what I can do.

I think it all depends on the type of game. With slot games, we can't analyze or consider them a skill game, because I believe they are purely about luck. Meanwhile, with sports games, we can consider them a skill game that can be played with planning and discipline, as you mentioned. So, I feel like I am both, I mean, we could analyze sports games in the hope of winning, while with slots, we can only hope for the outcome and can't analyze it. However, all forms of gambling should be handled with good bankroll management, without over-exerting ourselves to win, or chasing losses. Essentially, we should limit ourselves from excessive gambling, as it is not good for us, and this applies not only to gambling.

Every gambler is not happy when he loses but that is how the gambling is designed whether, you like it or not. I know everyone will love to be a player but do you have time to start studying something that depends more on luck. I wouldn't waste my time learning how to be a player because it's not easy and there's no guarantee that you will make long tern profit.

Normally we gamble to win, but the truth is that the game is program in such a way that you can never smart the industry that is why we don't need to struggle much. Because there is no amount of study that can easily guarantee you winnings in gambling is still a luck that would determining the final outcome, so for me I don't see any reason why a gambler would over work himself because at last it will not change anything.

Nice topic OP, I haven’t seen a question like this before and for me I’d rather be a player than just a gambler because my goal is to build my skills and someday be profitable in gambling especially in sports betting, when I was new I was just relying on luck without any real analysis just hoping to win.

Now that I’ve learned more I know there’s actually a way to make profit if you take it seriously, I’ve been trying to do things right but honestly I’m still not there yet though I’m not giving up, not anytime soon.

For me am both a gambler and a player that's funny right?  Am quite okay with my level of analysis I do before gambling that is as a player then as a gambler I wouldn't want wish to do more what I do any time soon, the truth is that building your skills only increase chances of winning and it doesn't play with certainty because there are times your so called will completely be off the outcome and then you will consider all your efforts as a waste of time and energy, am not discouraging you can still do what you want but you need to know that nothing is guaranteed.

The question 'Am I really a gambler or a player' can be used to find out what stage a gambler is in. If a gambler is addicted to extreme levels, he forgets his self-control. He remains a gambler as long as he keeps his conscience and intelligence in check and limits his losses to the amount of risk he can take. Because a gambler plays with planning, analysis, strategy and discipline and uses every experience in real life. On the other hand, a gambler plays for luck, thrill and emotion. He has little planning or strategy. He loses out on emotion and becomes desperate for revenge.
