I guess I'm understanding the point @lida is trying to make, and by that I mean he is only trying to emphasize that by being experienced as a gambler don't stop you from losing even while gambling, but it's only just that it gives you an edge into making more calculated entry in all games, which are likely to end in profit. But in a scenario as O.P portrays above regarding the inability of gamblers stop chasing losses, is the reason why majority are addicted today. And because of that, that is enough reason why as a gambler, it's always good one has a stipulated budget he or she is willing to lose at each gambling session, and when you exhaust your limit, you probably just call it a day off. Gambling is profitable to very few percent of the people, and if you think you can be in that percentage by practicing, you are not paying attention to gambler's fallacy, or statistics in general

Casinos would be broke if this was highly lucrative game of skill for most skilled gamblers. It's a zero-sum game with a difference that casino needs to take their cut as well.
