I remember when I was younger, toys ads were banned from the TV, under the justification they were harmful for children, as they led to consumerism. It should be the parents in the first place because they are the ones responsible to them growing up as adults. Government can only do so much for the intervention. It is never the responsibility of the government to look after for the kids. Thus, parents should instill good values and good virtues to their kids growing up so even if they are not present 24/7, the kids know what to do with the circumstances in front of them.
As a parent, we have the responsibility to instill good values and virtues to our kids. Because those will be used by our kids when we are away from them. With what they have will be their weapon to face the realities of life because we won't be there for them all the time.

Indeed it might be an impact in the end for mentality but when talking about children and social media I think we have to realize when parents give freedom to their children in playing gadgets they should prefer to prepare or anticipate this because after all the responsibility of parents is about preparing for the future of their children.
