I think that he may be temporarily saved him from gambling addiction by forcing him, but as soon as he is released, he will be addicted to gambling again because he has been forced to stop gambling. To save himself from gambling addiction, The gambler must make his own efforts to protect himself from gambling addiction. Only if he realizes that he is addicted can he be free from gambling addiction. Some gamblers do not understand their addiction. They think that the way they are gambling is appropriate. First, an addicted gambler should be given an idea about the negative aspects of gambling. Gambling is not a source of income. When the gambler gets a good idea about the positive and negative aspects of gambling, then he can also come back from the addiction if he tries.

I think the old man is right. He tried his best to stop his son from becoming an addict but he could not stop him from gambling. Just keeping him in jail would not be the right decision, he needs to be given advice through Experienced Counselor and mental treatment. With proper care addicted gamblers can be cured. According to statistics, most of the addicted gamblers are due to family instability. Parents should raise their children to be responsible from a young age so that they can control themselves and get used to living a responsible life.

From my experience, gambling addiction can be stopped when someone can ignore gambling for a long period of time. If, for example, his father's plan is carried out by arresting him and sentencing him to two years, that means he won't have access to gambling.

Military interference isn't an option, there are better ways a father can help his son end addiction, force is never an option.

Close monitoring will help and keeping him much occupied with relevant matters, but all of these redemption strategies will work if only the child has made up his mind to quit, words of advice can go deep as therapy, which is the first strategy i believe they should work with.

But until the gambler corrects himself, it is very difficult to stop him. Here you are intending to give him jail, you may think that his addiction will decrease, but it will not happen and you will be in more danger. He will behave destructively after going to jail and will show anger towards you when he comes out and gamble more. So my advice to you is, always keep him busy, involve him in any income-generating activity. Get him counseled by a psychologist every week. At least once a month, you can come back to a quiet environment, have a good time and your son will realize that there are other things in life that can be spent apart from gambling.

That method will only appear to be effective because the guy will be indeed deprived from gambling for a long period of time, but there is a high chance he will get back to casinos or bookies as soon as he get released from prison.
Also, it is remarkable how that elderly man is willing to basically break laws and the right to due process in order to try to curb the gambling addiction his son is suffering, that is rather extreme, locking someone up for six months is extreme enough for an addict, two years is simply a new level and show how desperate that person is to recover his son.

Anyways, this is something I would not do. One needs to opt for professional mental healthcare, doctors and psychiatrist know better when comes to defeating addictions and setting people back in the right path.

That will make him furious and force him to do it more aggressively whenever he come back and get the opportunity also he will lose trust on the people for locking him up for something he did probably as a mistake. Using force or fear never cures addiction rather it helps the addict to hide it better, the best method is to talk them out, it doesn't happen on the first attempt and probably requires 100 attempts to get him to a therapy or rehab where he will have ways to manage his withdrawal from gambling, other coping mechanism that helps with the urge and lot of counseling.

That is why it is said that prevention is better than cure. When he gets his son arrested by using military influence, his son will already be financially damaged. If he does that, he is doing his son no good but serving him a very wicked punishment that might even make him  go rough later in the future, punishment can change people for good or for worse but a gentle approach with the correct measures can cause an addicted gambler to Change. The people that are addicted to gambling needs to be stripped off all their measures that is aiding them in gambling and they can be going for treatment at the appropriate centres where such problems are solved.

That's exactly the same time or years he would spend in a psychiatric world of he was a so addicted or probably lesser but guess what the father wants to do, cut cost as it would be free of charge and he would feel the pain he has also caused others or his family.

The most a person who wants to see his loved one recover can do is to persuade the gambler to see a therapist, while also assuring him of his full support through the process. Funny enough, nothing might change if he decides to use military influence, these things are not dealt with by force. stopping an addiction takes time and it is a process. sometimes such persons need to go through therapy and they need ways in which they can be restricted from gambling. locking him up for 2 years is not a reasonable thing to do, it is only going to affect his mental health negatively

The best way we could help an addicted gambler is to make the right recommendations to him on how he could be free of the addiction he's into, such could be by giving some nice advice, recommends for a therapist or even make ourself available in putting them through the right lathe, starting by orientating them, giving the necessary aid and support that could help prevent further addiction into gambling, engaging them into doing other things, with our maximum support, we could achieve something good if determined to help them out in such situation.

Who knows, I mean, I think that his brain will be definitely re-wired, but not in a good way. But if we ask a person with a different mentality, and I can imagine his father's mindset, then it will be effective in his opinion and he will think that the harm will be worth the cost.

Time will tell, but that's not how I would teach my son, no matter the problems he could have.

First of all, he has to ask himself, is there no gambling in the correctional centers, if the answer is yes, there is no gambling in the correctional center then he can use that method. It will help him but if is no, there are gambling in the correctional centers, then he has to apply another method of contacting and expert to counsel him. And I doubt if there is no gambling in the those facilities. Remember it is not only him that will be in the facility and like minded people are there also. So he will enjoy gambling there more than the outside World. He should take the boy to expert and from his part, prayers can also help a lot.

This is a very serious addiction. Those who are addicted to gambling addiction cannot get out of it very easily. They need to be isolated from the internet or stay in a routine. However, if in this case, his son can be brought out of gambling addiction in any way and if sending him to a rehab center is not a solution, then he should never introduce himself that it was his son. Only by keeping him in prison for two years and keeping him completely isolated from the internet, he will be able to gradually get out of the addiction. However, in this case, it may also be that he may be mentally unbalanced due to excessive thinking. So that should also be considered.

If his son experiences trauma from the harsh approach, the deterrent effect could turn into long-term emotional wounds, even worsening the addiction. But if it was effective, and he truly realized the dangers of gambling, then it could be a turning point for him.

Where does the son get the money to gamble? Also, how is he going to influence the military to arrest his son? The military can't just arrest anyone without reason, and saying that person is a gambling addict is not a valid reason for an arrest. At the end, you can't help anyone who doesn't want to be helped.

It could, I mean, I've read some articles talking about people getting out of an addiction after getting locked up, which cut off their access to whatever products or things they are addicted to. But there are also cases where they just go back to their old ways after being released. Basically, locking up his son does not guarantee that he will not be addicted once he is released.

Why will you arrest and lock up someone for two years just because he is addicted to gambling, those that even make any sense, just because a person is addicted to gambling doesn’t mean you should arrest him, there are other things which you can do to make him stop gambling.

I will just advise the person to call his child and discuss with him, advise him about gambling addiction, and implications of being addicted to gambling, if you want a addicted gambler to stop gambling, then the gambler should also be prepared to stop gambling, because if the gambler isn’t ready to stop gambling, no matter how you try, it’s just going to be difficult. Also you can just take the person to a rehab center, at least he can be treated by professionals.
