If he is kept in rehab for a few months then it is possible to bring him back to health by following a set of rules and taking proper psychological treatment and some medicine. Although there is a good amount of expense here, I think it would be better to get treatment from rehab than military influence. Military influence will make him more stubborn and because of this when he comes out of there he may be more disobedient and his respect for his parents will decrease.

If that son get the taste of gambling again, im pretty sure he will go back playing and get addicted worse than the first time.

I also think there's no better solution than this, because I know better than anyone what approach is needed with such people and players. They will certainly be cut off from their normal lives and the game, but that's unavoidable, as breaking away from the game requires great effort and perhaps even suffering for a while. Exactly, the internet must be kept away from him or her no matter what the reason is because now most casinos do promotions on the internet or social media and it is very possible for the child to return to gambling when seeing promotional advertisements.

Maybe a very small number of gamblers out of 100 can be cured by arresting them or by scaring them with the police. Maybe these types of gamblers are getting cured because of fear, but in most cases this formula will not work. Because without awakening the inner man, a person will never understand good and bad.

So if you want to cure an addicted gambler, you have to bring about behavioral changes in him. For this, you have to talk to him and calm him down gradually. In this, his family will play a major role and if the family feels that he needs advanced counseling and for this he should take the help of a professional psychiatrist.

I don't think using military power to influence his son will change anything. I have seen a friend who was a Gambling addict who even use because of to gamble and steal, and that landed him to jail for atleast 2 years before he was dismissed, but guess what? After he came back from prison, we expected hims to stop gambling but he started gambling again when we thought he would have changed. And that get me thinking if he was gambling for that 2 years in prison.
