We all gamble here, that’s obvious. But outside this forum, when people around you casually call you a “gambler”, how do you actually take it?

Do you feel proud and see it as some kind of compliment, like someone who takes risks and knows what they’re doing. Or do you feel a bit insulted, like it’s something negative and not really something to be proud of?

Curious how others see it, especially since gambling means different things to different people.

Maybe because we participate in online gambling, people in my area don't know much about me. But in reality, if it is thought that I am a gambler and people around me call me a gambler, then it is a kind of insult in my locality. Here, no one wants to have a good relationship with the gambler's family and does not want to help them financially and socially. If someone is called a gambler in my area, it is considered a shameful insult. So if someone calls me a gambler, I will definitely be insulted and it is a kind of abuse for me.

Just keep it a secret and there will be no problem, not everyone knows that I gamble, I keep it as secret as possible, so my game never gets me into trouble. Keeping it a secret solves all problems, so don't take it so seriously and just keep it a secret, then there will be no problem. You have to try to solve the problem lightly, another thing is that I never care about what others say, if someone says something negative about me, I just avoid him and always avoid him, I don't have any contact or relationship with him anymore.

No one in real life ever called me a gambler, so I can only assume how would I react. I wouldn't take it as an insult for sure. I would see it. like you said, as some kind of compliment, like someone who takes risks and knows what they’re doing. Once, when I was abroad on a business trip, I bought my wife a t-shirt with Dicey printed on it. I didn't mean to insult her, if you know what I mean.

Being called a gambler, for me isn't bad non good, it just depend on the tone the person uses, it's not necessary mean mocking, A gambler can be seen as someone who isn't afraid in taking risk, someone who has strong confident on there decision, so anyone who takes big risk and win big is a gambler, A gambler doesn't literally means someone who only gamble bet alone, many people see it as boldness while others see it as a means to judge or see you as someone who isn't responsible, these set of people takes risk to achieve success, it might be for business, investments, and sports, so without risk taking there won't be real achievement.

This is correct, there's a way someone will say something and you won't feel bad about it even though it's supposed to hurt your feelings,  but no matter what, it won't be alright to call someone a gambler in public because we don't know if the person don't want others to know that he's gambler.

In reality, many people start gambling as entertainment but later lose control and waste a lot of money and become addicted. That is why society has given it a bad label in advance in a preventive way. When gambling turns into an addiction, it is seen that people continue gambling by vandalizing and selling their furniture at home and at some point they no longer have it, losing everything and becoming destitute.

For all these reasons, people in our country see it as bad. I can show another reason why people take it so badly, no one has yet clearly presented their own position on gambling. Especially no one says that I have earned or won a lot of money by gambling. Because of which everyone takes it very personally but does not want to disclose it.

Hmmm, being called the name might not be a problem but depending on where you are called a gambler, in some scenes, you could feel embraced when someone just calls you that name. Assuming you are with a family that you don't want them to know that you participate in gambling activities and then someone calls you a gambler, won't you feel embraced? If I don't want my family to know that I'm a gambler, I will not take it lightly to the person who calls me a gambler in front of them, not because I'm not a gambler but because they don't keep their mouth in place.

Very well, the whole name calling thing depends on how the caller put it to the one gambling, sometimes circumstances and events at the time determine how people view things most especially things that have to be done in the most discretionary way to avoid sliding into negativity such activities like gambling.

As for a Gambler, what determine the honour in the name is the leveyat which the individual behaviour speaks to the general public that determine what people in real life will view you as.

If you are gambling in the most respectful way, and you have a positive results from your gambling, yourself won't be ashamed when someone call you a Gambler.

This depends totally on context and psychology. If it is said in a way to praise you for how you understand gambling and the technical part of betting, then that’s fine, but if it’s said during an argument or heated moments? Then it could likely be an insult. Context is very important..

It's ok to be called a gambler besides life itself is all about gambling, the decision we make each day will determine what our future would look like and the funny thing is we never know what might happen next. Leaving your house to work in other to secure a pay is gambling because there is no guarantee that you'll get back home alive but yet we still push through as though it's guaranteed. I always keep my gambling hidden and no one knows my personal identity even in this forum. So I don't face any problem with gambling in my personal life. And till now no one has called me a gambler in real life. I gamble in online casinos due to which no one knows about my gambling activity.

I don't want anyone to ever know me as a gambler in real life. And I don't think that should ever happen to anyone. Even though gambling is entertainment, not everyone likes gambling. So if the matter of gambling is revealed, it could hurt my reputation.

Yea this makes sense and I totally get your point but in general, it is not good for someone to address or call someone a gambler even if they do gamble because it is very disrespecting though sometimes you can be called a gambler in a way jovial way ( a way that someone just jokingly call you and didn't mean any harm) but sometimes someone can also intentionally call you just to upset someone and someone who is discipline and responsible won't call someone that intentionally, I'm very sure of that.

All your points are clear and understandable, but what I want you to understand is that, by calling a gambler "a gambler" doesn't mean that they are hiding their personality or being hypocrite. But some people will them that as an act of mockery. See them as irresponsible for looser. So, tell me, you as a human, what will be your reaction when someone purposely see you as an act of mockery. A lot of societies today, consider gambling as a sin, and look up to every gambler has an irresponsible person.

I live in a country that prohibits gambling so when someone calls me a gambler in a public place then I will be a little offended because gambling has a negative stigma in most societies, but sometimes it depends on the situation too, if for example the one who called me a fellow gambler and he said it when we were hanging out with other gamblers we knew then I felt normal, the point is I will feel offended when someone else I don't know and who is not a gambler hears the words that are thrown from a friend to me as a gambler.

Even in a country where gambling is accepted, calling someone a gambler in public place is offensive, because he knows your name , calling you a gambler is indirect insult, he's indirectly telling people you're into gambling, we live in a society where they see gambling as a bad habit. It's wrong for any one to address you as a gambler in any place.

I'll not tolerate it, by any body calling me a gambler when you know my name, gambling isn't a profession like doctor or Engineer that's a proud title to answer. Any body calling you a gambler is insulting you.

Of course, especially in a place where gambling is prohibited, then surely the stigma of society will be really bad and the incident can have a bad impact on someone who is called a gambler because surely the people who hear it will stay away from that person indirectly and will not want to deal especially about finances, the point is that it can damage the trust of others even if for example you are a responsible gambler, so my advice to anyone is please maintain everyone's privacy.

You may not see it as an insult, but in real life, when other people call a certain person a gambler, the reaction to such a comment will be different on situation. First, if he gains from gambling and second, if he loses. But it is possible to create two different feelings with the same word. Suppose you won $500 in gambling, in this case, when someone calls you a gambler, you may take it as a compliment that he is saying this to you because of the money you won. But suppose you lost $500, in this case, if someone calls you a gambler, you may feel that he is talking to you in a bad way and at that time, the statement you received from someone as a gambler will seem insulting to you. So I think the same word will create two different reactions in both situations.

In place where I live, gambling or gambler has sort of a negative aura. If someone is called a gambler, that is done to point out that person isnt smart, dont have a good job, generally is a loser in life. Even though gambling has advanced from being few slot machines installed whenever it is possible to a large and luxurious casino, people live with past and gambler is considered as lazy unemployed (often drunk), who is wasting his life instead of «finding a job». Nobody use word gambler to call a person who like to risk. Gambling is used to insult.
