Is Doing Side Activities While Gambling, is it good or not?

So I observe most of my friends doing other activities while gambling, some of them smoking and some of them drink coffee or soda. Is it common for gamblers to do other activities while gambling? Does it help them to focus or not? I would like to hear other opinions too.

Personally, I don’t do other activities when I gambling, I just focus on gambling because I don’t want to mess up my decisions. Also, if I follow them and start smoking for example, wouldn’t it be better to use the money for gambling instead of buying other things?

Why would the money they use to buy other things while gambling be better used just for gambling? Anyway, every person are diffrent, while you need to focus when gambling, there are people who can gamble while doing other things, and personally, being able to do other things is a lot better than only focusing on gambling. Just thinking about only focusing on gambling and nothing else while you're gambling is exhausting.

Depending on the gambling games you are playing. Isn't it normal for someone to engage in light activities while gambling? Such as smoking or drinking soda or coffee. I don't think it's strange for someone to do that, because doing so can help them relax and keep their mood stable so they don't get too caught up in the game. Especially when playing slots, it's not a game that requires intense focus, as slots rely on RNG and not complex strategies, so you can still smoke or drink soda while enjoying the game.

I don’t really see how drinking and smoking would kill boredom or make you more focused when gambling..  I don’t know, it may be working for your friends, but I don’t see it as a thing for me..
And also smoking and drinking while gambling isn’t no activity, it’s just what they’ve always like doing, that is the reason why they’re doing it while gambling..

I'm surprised that smoking and drinking are considered other activities. I do not consider these other activities because they will take you a few minutes, and you won't get bothered doing these things.

I sometimes take beers while betting online; it helps me condition my mind, and I feel better, and sometimes win while taking beers, but of course, I see to it that I don't get drunk because I will lose my concentration if I get drunk.

Drinking beer and smoking are stimulants and cannot be considered as another activity that can interfere with how you gamble.

These days, many job postings require potential employees to be able to multitask. A single person is expected to manage multiple projects and perform the duties of several employees simultaneously, constantly switching between different activities. This requirement is usually based on simple greed on the part of the employer. I can eat and read, drink and play, and it doesn't bother me at all. Everyone's way of staying focused is different. You can focus when doing just one gambling activity. But some other people may need other light activities to help them focus. I also smoke and drink coffee when gambling, but not with food. I have a friend who always eats candy when gambling. I guess it's not an activity that breaks focus, but it helps to stay focused and maybe relieves a bit of the tension experienced.

Methods of stress relief, it comes and stays with gambling. If someone comes to gamble they will create stress on their heads and they will try to get the quick fix and end up doing alcohol or smoking. They will not consider stopping gambling to help with the stress.

These are all having deleterious effects on health of the gambler and are never recommended. But these are very common among gamblers and hence they lead to problems that become difficult to control later. Often gamblers end up with lung diseases and liver problems with obesity.

I believe that it actually depends on the nature of gambling and the amount of concentration that the game involves. In simple games, such as slots, where all depends on mere luck and you can even autospin, it is possible that small side activities do not influence the result in any way. I think drinking some coffee or smoking a cigarette while gambling is actually okey. i would not even call them side activities which actually require extra attention from gamblers in order to be done accordingly.

On the other hand, it would be completely different to gambling while working, gambling while cooking or even gambling which driving. Those ara activities which require a very high percentage of our attention in order not to get negatively affected by our own actions, in the case of driving we would be talking about physical integrity of others.

i have taken some coffee and other drinks while gambling, i do not think there is a problem with it. Even casinos offer some drinks to their gamblers after they have spent a considerable amount of time on the gambling floor.

That’s pretty common in the gambling world, and I do it quite often too. For me, gambling while smoking or having coffee just adds a sense of comfort when I’m enjoying my free time and placing bets on a few games. It doesn’t really interfere with the gambling itself, sometimes smoking even makes you feel more relaxed. You’ll probably notice that in some places, when a gambler hits a bonus round, they actually light up a cigarette right then and there.

Do you only gamble the amount of money equal to a pack of cigarettes and a cup of coffee? That doesn’t really make sense to me. Coffee or cigarettes are just extras, they’re more like small necessities and shouldn’t be seen as something inappropriate to have while you’re gambling.

That's not side activities, I thought they will leave their gambling table for a while to run errand or something, drinking and smoking is to them having a great time.

The problem with drinking is that it will affect your mind, you won't be able to focus much after drinking too much alcohol, it's wrong to take anything that can affect your mind and brain for a while.

If B is your choice of answer or pick, drinking can make you choose A instead, I am not sure about smoking because I don't see how smoking affects the brain or mind than the smoker smelling of cigarettes.

I have 3 variations of gambling that I do.

1) gambling rarely offline, in local casino playing table games with or without friends just for relaxation and Friday mood. I talk with friends, have something to drink, that dont make me lose focus on the game.
2) gambling online on laptop. I cant tell exactly, but I do some side activities when I play. Maybe I have youtube video running with music on background.
3) gambling online on a phone. I always have TV or some music on the background, because I dont like silence. That does not bother me at all.

In all variations, I dont remember making bet by mistake because something interfered me. I only remember being in rush or greedy, that has lead to a loss.

Although I have done it before, I don't like to eat/drink/smoke while gambling because I feel that, when I do it, I do it compulsively. I don't enjoy the meal/drink or cigarette, I just consume it in the worst possible sense of the word.

Not to talk about drinking alcohol or smoking other substances, of course, because of the obvious deterioration in the ability to make good gambling decisions that this would entail.

Smoking, drinking and gambling at the same time is just a personal decision, it’s not a mandatory stuff and it’s also common seeing gamblers doing all of that , mind you that doesn’t guarantee winning either , just a lifestyle some individuals chooses , most of my friends are into smoking and drinking when we are together but I can never be part of it , I don’t smoke and I take alcohol once In a while but turning it into a habit and making people feel is a normal thing for all gamblers to be smoking and drinking is totally out of it .

I never imagined that such light activities would affect gambling decisions, as they don't require much concentration. You seem to be over-classifying these activities as distracting, or they may actually be activities that help refresh you amidst stress.

Sometimes, when I'm relaxing with my friends in the beer parlor, I bring out my phone to see if there's any match I can bet on. That doesn't mean that the beer will have any influence on my decision making. I feel more relaxed placing my bets when I'm a little bit intoxicated that's just the fun for me. However, I don't do it always.

When you say side activities, I’m trying to understand with context what this activities mean. But either ways, just do you, it will not change the outcome of the bet even if you watch it while driving, or gaming or even smoking. Outcome will be the same lol. Make sure not to pick unhealthy habits just to take your mind off from your bets, could join forces and ruin you even more in the long run of gambling.
