Why not make a rank higher than Legendary? Pros and cons please.

Legendary rank has been reach by many people is it time for a higher rank.

Obviously this would be good for someone like me since I would likely reach that next tier.

I do feel that altcoinstalks has it correct with two levels better than legendary.

Not a bad idea, but I'm not sure how the forum would benefit from additional ranks.

According to Bpip, currently there are 182 member who meet the merit requirements you proposed, and 363 who meet the activity requirements.  I didn't take the time to audit the two requirements to eliminate those who wouldn't meet both requirements, but I imagine around 150 members would rank up.

Sarcastically, the number of ranks on altcoins talks is more than the number of rules here lol.. I doubt Theymos will consider adding new ranks because it's not of direct benefit to the forum. Assuming the stats you mentioned it might take me another third of a decade to achieve that rank.

Activity has been a big limitation for me though. Nonetheless it would be nice to have extra ranks for status sake I guess we have people that have been active here for over a decade and it's no small feat.

None of these ideas are new to me. Even if I don't respond to suggestions, I do read them, and they float around in my mind going forward. If it's not already done, then there's some reason why. A big possible reason is that I'm the only person who does development on the current code, and my time is limited. Another big reason is that this is a huge forum with complex dynamics, and even small policy changes can have big effects which need to be thought through very carefully.

• A new member rank after Legendary as it is becoming far too common now and will only become more so as time passes. I would suggest fixing Legendary at 960 activity and the new rank is double that at 1920. You could also make the merit requirement very high for this rank so it's only for the crème de la crème of users [OMG NAZI RANK ITS LIKE THE RICH KEEP GETTING RICHER].
• Additional perks for Legendary accounts or a higher rank if added (for example: custom title, image banner in signature, clickable link in personal text, access to exclusive sub board etc).

No. Or not yet. Or the idea would need to be significantly modified.

I feel like once you reach Legendary, merits don't matter which might make some users not care about getting them unless their campaign requires a certain number earned each week/month. Basically bragging right and ranking on BPIP after that.

Wouldn't mind seeing a couple new ranks added to make this place just a little more interesting for the OGs.

Tbh, Padawan rank being the highest one on altcointalk doesn't make much sense to me, since in the Star Wars universe it's an apprentice rank.  

Regarding the new ranks, I say keep it as it is. People are already taking this forum way too seriously, and adding new rank(s) would just add to that.

I don't think there's anything wrong by having many people reach the legendary rank. This should be a testament of a long lasting forum rather than seeing it as a kind of rank inflation.

If a new rank is created, just in a little time, there will be a proposal for creating another rank where maybe a few 2 or 3 would belong.
If two other ranks are added, it will mean than little/no newbie will think of achieving the highest rank in the forum. I already know the amount of years it will take me to be a legendary member, if new ranks are created, such numbers might tripple.

Besides, the merit system is already there to say the difference. Without mentioning it, i know that there is a very big difference between a legendary member with 900 activity and 1001 merits and a legendary with 4000 activity and 10,000 merits.

there is pretty much nothing to achieve for me.

and at least a dozen to 50 of us are old school 10 year plus members with thousands upon thousands of posts and legends.

it is a glass ceiling of sorts.

not knocking a five or six year member with 1500 plus merits that is a legend.

but a ten year member with 2500 or 3000 plus merits and 4000 or 5000 posts is truly a step higher then the five or six year member is he not?

yes it has and they were forward thinking people since all those thread began from 2015 to 2019


we have reached a point where the forum is now older than 15 years.  we are not addressing the older longtime memberships at all

say pre 2016 that stayed here continuously or at least posting quite a bit.  I do not know the count of us in the 10 year plus active legend group but we could have a

legend emeritus

title for sure it would be easy to see it and how many are in that group under 50 people?

I was going to write that there had already been discussions on this topic, but someone beat me to it and quoted the admin whose answer is more than clear. Time is a key factor in things like this, and one person can hardly do anything other than what is necessary and critical for the forum with his limited time.

If by some miracle we ever get a new rank, I would suggest that the conditions for it be such that it can only be achieved by those who have invested a lot of time in this forum, and those who are recognized by the community. My suggestion would therefore be 5000 activity points and 10 000 merits.

Some might say that the bar is set too high, but personally, it doesn't make sense to me that we'll get hundreds of members with new rank overnight.

Yeah, I am all in for it. There are plenty users who are so valuable that mere 'legendary' rank does not justify their status but then again as seen in this thread and as well as what MarryWithBTC said above, merit is already there that shows how valuable user is — which is true too.

Activity is easiest thing for me to attain, because it requires you to do nothing (even if it may require you to make post) while if you talk about merit, now we are talking.


let me shamelessly propose prestige idea again (post linked above) because I think it's better than adding new rank which will become 'normal' after a while and users will ask for something new again. With prestige system, you can keep doing reset and get new shiny badge and parade — yo, I have more badges than you.

Firstly I don't think it would be a bad idea to add a rank higher than the Legendary Member rank. It would help distinguish the legendary members who have added so much value to the forum and the Bitcoin network which their merit history strongly backs.

 However, I doubt Theymos would be interested in such suggestion as it won't have any significant impact on the forum or how things work here. But if for any reason such an improvement is to be made, the conditions for it should be more than just merits and activity.

The number of years a person has spent on the forum I think should be an added condition, that'll give more value to longevity and consistency of members. Maybe something from 7 years and above.

After a while, when many people have attained whatever new rank that was introduced, they will start asking for a new rank, so where will it end? Very soon, on the same altcoinstalk, people will start asking for a new rank. Right now it may seem impossible because it's difficult and take so much time to attain, but with time, most of the people in hero member rank and above will all get to the highest rank and by then, it won't look like something special and they will ask for new ranks.
So I suggest we live it as it is. In every ranking system, there is always a top level. Plus, in altcoinstalk, I think it's relatively easier to rank up to hero member than it is on this forum.

Yea definitely i also feel same, then when I was at a lower rank I always wanted to attain the highest rank which is legendary but on getting there it just feels like nothing. Though got a lit of experience along the way, but the forum somehow seems to be getting boring when you've got no target in mind.

The only thing that one can try to attain after a legendary rank is just reputation, merits don't matter anymore. I just feel there should be something more to it, so everyone would be willing to compete higher than the legendary rank.

If I were the forum admin, merits for Legendary would stop counting immediately after the level is reached, then switch to normal thanks count.

Because the badges/rank above the legendary on ALTT are made by someone who is certainly a Star wars fan (just kidding lol, so to speak), besides, that forum isn't this forum. They are two different niches.

The number of merits is already enough to differentiate one legendary from another, i.e: someone who has 3000+ more merits than a common legendary is no longer just any legendary.

Just like a Sr or Hero has more merits than a legendary, but the latter only didn't reach the Legendary rank because they didn't reach the required number of activities, in the end, merits are highly valued by members to determine the quality of their posts.

The forum is already working well as it is, I don't think this will bring anything beneficial to the forum.

Explain? Cause, they both are having crypto as niche, although sure not any prominent personalities have been active there as on this forum.

It's actually boring being stagnant in one rank for a very long time and what motivates many people in the forum is the ability to move from on rank to another because it gives a different feeling of progress in the forum. However, if we ask for a new rank after the legendary rank that means we will have to ask for more ranks and such development could be very discouraging to those in lower ranks when they find out it will take over a decade to attain the apex rank.

While Mythical connotes something anyone would feel fine with themselves on their profile, I don't think Padawan is. For me, a Padawan tag should be for low ranks, something after newbie because it means trainee/apprentice or inexperienced person. It's not something anyone will value above a legendary status. Instead, something like Grandeur would serve better with Mythical.

As for the argument of creating ranks higher than the Legendary rank here, I don't see anything special that can add to any user. I don't see it improving anyone's posting habit or quality. The only thing that will serve will be for signature campaign classism.

Side note –
BTT shouldn't pattern its ranking system after any other forum. It should maintain its steeze and do its things as it deems fit.
