Ending your life after a big loss isn't the best solution

People manage disappointment and frustration differently, especially when it has to do with gambling. In any case, you've to deal with the situation, but ending your life surely isn't a solution, in fact you cause more harm to those you're leaving behind when you decide to end it all.

A say event happened last month of which a 42 year old man who sold both of his cars and used it's process to play aviator game and lost everything there subsequently decided to end his life with a hunting gun.

A ZESCO employee has taken his life after reportedly losing money from the sale of two vehicles on Aviator, an online casino game populary known as Kandeke.

The victim, identified as Mulenga Kashiba, a junior engineer, is reported to have shot himself using a hunting rifle, Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Mwala Yuyi has confirmed.

“Preliminary investigations have reviewed that the deceased previously sold his two Honda fit cars at a value not known and used all the proceeds to bet on aviator casino game and lost the bet and from that time he has been having a lot of misunderstandings with his wife,” Mr Yuyi said.

Mr Yuyi explained the victim was discovered by his brother following a call from their mother.

“He [the brother] rushed home and on arrival by the gate he heard a gunshot sound coming from inside the house.

“He rushed inside the house and discovered that the bedroom door was locked and he managed force it open and upon entering the room he found the deceased in the pool of blood.

This also underscore the need for emotional and physical support from the immediate family and friends in the wake of such a mistake from a family member because part of his difficulties may have come from issues with his wife which made him feel very miserable and saw no reason to continue living.

He messed up in the first place by gambling recklessly, which was redeemable since he still had a job and could get back on his feet, but took the worst option to end his life. He didn't end his misery, he compounded issues for those he left behind. Every addicted gambler needs a second chance to make things right, too bad the guy in the story blew it up for himself.

I think that no matter the mistakes we've made in gambling, the worst solution to it is suicide, there's always the possibility of a brighter future, but it's only for the living.

I don't think anyone makes a mistake by gambling recklessly, at least to a point. Making crazy wagers on sports looking for a miracle or playing high limit table games is fine and also how someone can win life changing money. Where it becomes a mistake is when people use their kids college fund, use rent money, steal from your work, or things like that.

Even if you fuck up and find yourself in a mountain of debt, suicide is never the answer. Accountability and working to pay off the debt is the answer. Your pride suffers but that's all. You can bounce back from a bruised ego.

When I see articles about people committing suicide due to a lost or an issue they have the first quote that comes to my mind is “Do not make permanent decisions for a temporary issue”. Killing yourself might feel like a good solution but what about the people you’ll be leaving behind? What is going to happen to them? Do you think that you don’t matter enough that your decision of committing suicide is going to affect them?

I know I might be saying this because I haven’t been in such a situation before, and that’s one thing I am praying and hoping never happens. I don’t want to be where I’ll have to fight that mental battle.

This is why discipline and restraint can never be overemphasized. For anyone dealing in the gambling industry, it's important to be disciplined enough to know when it's time to take a break. As much as gambling has its good sides which includes the dopamine hit and joy we feel after wins, the pains from losses hurts just as much and there's nothing as painful as not having much and then losing the little we have and that's why I understand the pain he went through.

It's as simple as this, I believe folks who are addicted may have figured out or observed the signs, but they choose to ignore those signs, but the best thing when someone figures out that they are observing some signs of addiction, it's best to just quit immediately as this is actually the best and only way in escape from drowning oneself more and more into the addiction. There is no point in taking his life because he gambled and lost his money. He could have stayed on this earth for a long time. People are having suicidal thoughts because they see doors closing. A little act of kindness can change the pain sad people carry in their heart. Did any of his family pay attention to his plight. If people noticed his mental failure his life could have been saved. He lost his life in a sad way.  His death could have been avoided if he shared his suicidal thoughts and feelings. A sad way to leave this earth.

Death is never and should never be the final decision one should make over any situation. Death doesn't solve problems; it creates more for those that are left behind. Even if it's debt, their family who are alive will be left to pay it after burying their dead one. It's better to stay alive and wear the shame as clothes and use it to learn. It's not easy, but it's never enough to take one's own life. I just can't justify whatever reason anyone wants to give as an excuse for why they consider suicide as an option.

Death is only the final decision for people who are alone. If they speak about their heart and feelings they would not make death the final decision of their life. Their death could mean families paying the debts and the funeral burial costs. Suicide is not an option, people should not think about taking their own life. It is better to stay alive to educate people about how gambling can trap gamblers in debt.

I could have seen some bright side to the story, the part where the cars he sold was his. I can imagine he sold the one he used and that of his wife which would create a whole lot of problems. Even if it were just his, sold and used for gambling, it’s sure to bring some misunderstanding in a relationship but at least, it doesn’t belong to someone else.

It would have being best they got over it quickly and start picking themselves back up. The wife should have helped him do that. Better having him around than not having him at all.

That is a very weak gambler such gamblers are not supposed to be allowed to gamble because gambling is not made for them instead of facing the reality of life he decided to end his life what if he had won would he have ended his life, this is not the solution to the problem what of he has a wife and children, how will they now survive with him being the bread winner.

People could be drowning in debt without somebody being an addicted gambler. Occasional gamblers could go on a bad run which brought them to debt. A shred of hope can help people on the brink of suicide. Help must be available in each country for people who have no hope and are having suicidal thoughts. It is important to remember talking to people in mental anguish could save a life.

I have heard many stories of people who lost a large amount in gambling and committed suicide, even one of my neighbors sold his favorite car and house for gambling. His family members stopped him and tried hard to get him out of his gambling addiction, but they failed, and he lost his valuable property in gambling, so he couldn't control himself and committed suicide due to depression. Those who are excessively addicted to gambling, family, and friends should be admitted to the rehabilitation center first. Many addicts can return to a normal life if the family supports them from all sides. Because suicide isn't a solution,  it cannot recover lost money. Rather, a family can be financially devastated by the suicide of the sole breadwinner of the family.

Ending life after a big loss is an option for people who are unable to accept the reality that they experience in gambling, namely losing a large amount of money, maybe even including the assets they have sacrificed just to pursue a big win that is uncertain, and for those who make this decision, it is likely because they are experiencing excessive pressure so that they are stressed and have no other options that actually there are options that can be taken to solve the problem, but the problem is the situation where someone has lost a large amount of money, maybe they previously had high hopes of getting a win but the reality turned around, this is the point that can make someone think short like ending life.

There are people who are killing themselves for way less than two cars and money like that man did, so it does not surprise me he took that choice and ended his own life. As it is well known that losing huge amounts of money and one's possessions to casinos can actually push some people over the edge and prompting them to kill themselves.
Whether we like it or not, this is not the first time we have read something like this and will certainly not be the last one. More people will die in the future because they decided to engage in reckless gambling instead of seeking professional help from the beginning.

Instead of judging those who have decided to kill themselves, we should wonder what society is going to do next in order for these cases not to become widespread and a new normality within countries where drugs, addiction to gambling and weapons take the life of hundreds or thousands every year.

Life is a unique gift that we must take advantage of. We need many generations to be born, and deciding to end it for whatever reason in this world is something I don't accept. People who think about that are because they never valued life. It makes me angry, especially not for gambling. That is the dumbness thing to ever of think of , why taking your life , I have heard of such situations before about a student who end his life just because he uses his school fees to gamble and it later cut , he was so frustrated and pained that a point of ending his life , that only caused more pains  for his family and friends, I know how hard it is to lose a huge amount of  money with the fact that gambling is unpredictable, probably you have seen how promising the game is and one decided to take a risk yet it didn’t favor's you , but I think it’s good for people to love themselves to a point of not taking their lives if things didn’t work out the way they planed it, especially when involved gambling.

I wonder what made him sell two vehicles to play gambling. Gambling will not gives winning easily so you don't have to sell your personal thing and using the money to gambling, that is not makes sense.

Ending life will not be a solution as your family will sad and don't know how to solving the problem. With a small talk and let those people that there's still hope may save them from taking their own life, there should be an open channel where people who are in need got someone to listen, a big help to save lives, like what you said those people who got suicidal thoughts if someone manage to listen to them and give them some good advise that there's still hope even how difficult and hard life was, and even how guilty they are taking your own life is not the only answer, it's just need to explain with careful thoughts and caring way of explaining may help to change the direction of whatever the person thinks about suicide.

no matter the frustration that happens in a man's life because of gambling loess should not warrant the person to kill himself or take his life. there is no amount of disappointment that worth taking one's life. life is irreplaceable but whatever you lose today will be replace in due time. there are things i lose back then that i thought i could never have them back again, but today i have gotten them back in thousand fold, but if i have killed myself because of it, i will not have gotten what i have now. so in conclusion there is nothing that can be measured with human life.

Indeed gambling is not for everyone especially the one person who thinks he could gamble with everything thinking he won't lose. Gambling is a game of luck and chance instead of using everything to gamble it is better to use a particular amount that won't put you in a difficult situation after losing but the thought of taking one's life after losing is something that should never happen cause what's money compared to life?  It's better not to go closer to gambling again if that's the case.

Absolutely right, gambling should not be something that would make you think about taking your own life because it's supposed to be a game to have fun and not to be taken seriously. The main reason why a lot of people think about killing themselves due to their terrible gambling experience is that they get into debt.

It seems to me that such cases as in the OP's post are not so rare. It's just that not everything gets into the press. I recently read that not just one, but several people committed suicide because Chimaev lost a fight to Strickland, and they lost almost everything they had. I don't know, maybe it's fake.

Anyway, suicides due to loss are not that uncommon. Of course, this is always a tragedy. A person who has instantly lost everything finds himself in despair, there is no way out for him at all, especially if he also has debts. That's why you need to control yourself and not give in to your greed. After all, in every such case, the gambler himself is to blame, not someone else.
