If you ask me, I wouldn't really dispute the whole ideology of gambling being a waste of money. It is true, but only if you are doing it without any form of control or management, and that alone is enough to support the motion of gambling being a waste of money.

I don't know if I should classify this story of the lucky woman as a case of beginners luck or something else, because that's what it looks like to me and I am sure that the woman had a sudden change of belief at that moment and might even be gambling more right now, to the point of even encouraging her husband to keep at it.
It's quite a hilarious take though and I like the way it ends.

when you have gamble like 4 times and they lose in the four times you have gambled you know that when someone is into gambling the person should know that gambling is not something that will give you a profit always and it is a game of luck which everyone know which you are not supposed to depend on it and the money that you are using to gamble you have to consider it as a waste of money because sometimes it may not come back, so whoever that is gambling that's the person know that the money it uses to gamble it may not see the money talk more of making profit from the money so the money should be considered a waste of money

This Life is always funny and loves to prove people wrong mainly when they tend to challenge it , this a proof that there is hope for gamblers even if gambling is very risky.

The quoted news never state the the couple chose a lump sum of just $415k after taxes so that people are aware in how much they really get. Well, they buy a home and a land and put their granddaughters to college which probably have some jobs now I expect considering it was 10 years ago. At least they put it on good use and that's the great part there. I wonder if her husband is still gambling because if he does I hope he'd retired with those amount of winnings, considering back then that's still pretty huge and put it onto investments as well would surely paid off.

I agree with that point too, because one of the impact lf winning a jackpot is that  it has the ability to change the life of the winner, 10 years is not a joke and anything that the money was put in could have yielded alot of profits by now so is very possible that the land they couple bought at that time should be yielding profits in rents, so this point to the important of knowing the place of luck in gambling.

Well this we can definitely call "an isolated incident" that changed their lives for the better but I am pretty confident if she did it again a thousand other times most probably the thousand of other times will be losing tickets. I tried so hard with scratch back in the days when we had a national lottery that was up to 250.000 EUR and despite buying a lot of tickets the max I have won is 27 EUR which is why gambling truly is very risky. This is indeed an isolated situation but, I would say you shouldn’t be that confident in her not having to win it a second time or even a third time. I have seen on the news of someone that was referred to be the luckiest gambler that, won consecutively, over 3 wins or so and huge amounts too.
She might not get to win the same amount but, could be lucky with some wins and then, the losses would come. I wonder what she would say to her husband now and how this doesn’t become a ticket to some reckless gambling after such win.

I feel sorry for anyone who feels obliged to play 'their' numbers every week on a lottery because of the regret they'd feel if it ever came up a win when they did not pay for the numbers.    Because of this monkeys paw curse conundrum I would only ever play if I could select random numbers and walk away guilt free and not think about it again, I'm not paying numbers every week forever that's ridiculous.  So in that context scratch cards make more sense though they are long odds also.

Gambling is full of surprises to be honest, and most of the time, it amazes me how things often times turn out in gambling, and this is why I do not cancel anybody especially those showing effort in various ways.
I am only here imagining the force at which the woman bought the $10 lottery ticket, the zeal and energy she must have disaplayed being someone who thinks she was absolutely sure of what she was doing, but unfortunately for her, she ended up getting humbled.

$1m is not a child's amount of money, I can say that if as a family, they invest and spend this money wisely, they can never be poor for their entire life anymore.

By this logic, a lot of things we spend money on are a waste of money. My Netflix and Prime Video subscriptions are a waste of money. They don't add anything meaningful to my life. The money I spend in the bar to get a few drinks on the weekend is a waste of money.
Gambling becomes a waste of money when it is abused. Using little money you can afford to gamble is not a waste of time. It's part of life. If you consider spending a little money to have fun for yourself as a waste of money, then you won't enjoy life.

The important thing is that you just have to know that gambling is a matter of luck and you should use it as fun, instead of a source of income. You can't earn an income from gambling. To hit the jackpot, it's just luck, not strategy or spending big or betting all the time.

I doubt she is going to try gambling again, unless pressured by her husband who may think (because in my experience gamblers are superstitious) that his wife has a lucky hand. Hopefully they invest the money wisely and do not end up becoming another statistic for people who won the lottery and go broke after a few years.

Well, such stories shouldn't be taken as inspiration from people to gamble more or buy more lottery tickets so that they can also have the same results, because the odds for winning a lottery with only one ticket are absolutely tiny, and she was obviously one in a million to be that lucky. A new gambler can hear this that happened to the woman and decide to try his luck and use plenty money because he thinks that the reward of gambling comes everyday. Gambling just dosen't pay everyday and for some persons, it will take more than it gives. And when it does give, it can even take it back that kind of thing can happen when person uses what he won to gamble again and looses it.

Gambling is mostly based on luck and thats the more reason we don't  need to jump into gambling all because we  probably saw someone else making it big. Luck may differs you maybe thinking it's that easy just because someone  else make it so fast and you decide using all your life savings just to win twice or triple of what the other person's won and before you know it something else will now happen and what we hear next is regret.
