I personally don't really care about the charges against Man City and how they will be punished, like a points deduction or the possibility of their titles being stripped and awarded to another team. I am more interested in how that event will have an impact on the sports betting market involving Man City. Like a bet on the Premier League winner if Man City is found guilty. Will there be any compensation, or is the result final? Imagine all the bettors who lost because of this decision wanting their money and winnings back from the sportsbook, so they sue the sportsbook. The sportsbook then sues the Premier League because they gave them the wrong results. If that really happens, it will become a death spiral

My team isn’t getting a trophy if the premier league strips those titles, so it’s not like I have a selfish interest in the case. Should they decide to make those seasons void, it would forever represent the dark days of the EPL when they almost allowed money to ruin the league.
Even if they decided to strip Manchester City of the titles they won, they shouldn't be awarded to the runners-up or any other team that didn't win the league on the pitch. Those cardboard titles don't mean anything because they weren't achieved on the field of play. A comparison can be made to the Calciopoli scandal back in 2006, when the Italian Federation stripped Juventus of two titles, punished a bunch of clubs, and awarded one of the league titles to Inter. That's a cardboard scudetto from Temu. They didn't win it. I agree to this, not only because they didn't merit it, but because it raises another important question in my mind - Would the cardboard title be rewarded with the financial dividends and other benefits as title winners for those years?
- Would Manchester city be asked for a refund of the dividends they received as champions?
Although I see very slim chances that they're stripped of those titles or given capital punishments, England is not stupid, football is one major economy booster of the UK and if they get that harsh, they may loose one of the clubs which brings in the bulk of the revenue.

Manchester City have been a great team for a very long time but this chargers I don't see anything too serious to happen that's if it has been confirmed, I mean their decision. For what the former Tottenham boss said about the punishment, I completely agree with him, it seems pointless but my question is why wait till now? It happened before and some how they might bury this pressure they have on City till the end of this season and the case will come up again. So from Pochetino’s comments Above is he trying to suggest that Manchester city should go Scot-free after being charged and confirmed that they have violated the FFP rules and are found guilty of 114 count charges. I know most rival fans will be bitterly angry about Manchester City and many will want a very harsh punishment for them not because they deserve such punishment but because of club sentiment and hatred but I think the right thing should be done. If according to their book that club found guilty of 114 count charges will deserve a certain level of punishment then they should be punished accordingly without being biased. If the law says they should be stripped off their titles and be relegated to the second division then they should pass the judgement. I read that the club have 14 days to appeal and if they failed in their appeal then they should be served with the appropriate penalty for violating the rules.

Actually no, I looked into the matter and there is quite an interesting situation there. If the Premier League imposes a points deduction on City (for example, 90 points) that results in the club's relegation, the Championship will be obliged to accept City. If City were to be directly expelled from the Premier League, the Championship would have no obligations toward City (nor would the other professional leagues). Therefore, if the professional leagues adopt the Premier League's decision and align themselves with it, City will have to start in the National League (I don't know the exact name - I think it's the fifth division or something like that). Yes, it sounds fantastic, but why not dream?
Ah you're right. I looked it up myself. Relegated teams must be accepted into the Championship but an expulsion then leaves City at the whims of EFL (which governs all the professional leagues below Prem). Very interesting scenario! National Leagues, yeah, fourth division after League Two. Love this dream, I won't mind putting $10 on it if you see such a market, let me know haha. - the face of a postman from Sunday League acting as a goalkeeper who realizes he’ll be facing Haaland’s shots today. Yes, I wouldn't mind spending 10 dollars on something like that either! For now, judging by Polymarket, the probability of City being stripped of their titles is close to 30%, while the probability of relegation is just 18% - a figure that encompasses both standard relegation due to a points deduction and outright expulsion. I don't even know yet which outcome is worth betting on, if I find an interesting market, I'll definitely tag you

City should face the repercussions like other clubs have done in the past. And we can all agree that a fine isn’t a befitting punishment for Manchester City because they can afford whatever amount they are asked to pay. The only way to make Manchester City pay is to fine them and make it mandatory that the pay the fine from transfer sales. They should also be given a 3 year transfer ban so they can’t buy players.

Do you remember what Mourinho said back when he was the manager of Manchester United? His remark—suggesting he might yet claim Manchester City's 2017–2018 title—was dismissed as a joke, especially given how brilliantly Pep Guardiola was building a squad that seemed to be enjoying a golden era season after season. In a 2024 interview with Rio Ferdinand, Mourinho revisited this topic, discussing how regulations and Financial Fair Play rules could impact those championship titles. In that sense, Pochettino is late to the conversation.

I will tell you again that stripping them of their titles is an unreasonable punishment. Do you people even realise that in the time frame of the charges, Man City were dominant? From 2009-2018, they won only 3 EPL trophies. So the domination of the league came years after these charges. It doesn't matter whether they won a lot or a little: they cheated in order to be able to spend more money, that means buying better players in order to win more matches/trophies. It was basically like a shortcut. Otherwise, to achieve those same results, it may have taken them 10 more years, or maybe 15 or 20, who knows? The other clubs were following the rules, the weren't. So I really don't understand why, in your opinion, stripping City of their titles is an unreasonable punishment. They cheated.

Assuming Manchester City paid referee, manipulated games and paid some people in the Premier League to win the league then there is going to be a different case because that is manipulation of games which directly or indirectly impact the transparency of the game. The casino will return nothing either. Haaland scored and if you bet yes, the result will remained the same. If you have bet and have won that Manchester were going to win, everything remains the same. This changes nothing about wagers. Let's assume that Manchester City paid referees and many official, what do you think is going to happened to bet? You think the casino will request the money won by bettors?

To me is a waste of time but if they want to continue with these charges is fine, the only thing that doesn't feels right is stripping them off those successful trophies, is unfair to me because after all those years of struggle, fighting to be at the top and to be champions they now choose a day to punish them to this level, it doesn't sit well with me. Why now? This should have been done like 2 seasons ago, at least we know that it would be a quick action to whoever mess with the rules but I still can't understand why they waited for this long to pressure them on these charges. As it is, even the owners of the club can't even alter a word on this issue at hand, they're all in a tight corner, let's see how the coming days would look like. What's happening now can kill the fighting spirit of the players.

Everybody is blowing this thing out of proportion, and I can understand why. When it's a club you don't already like, there is no more logic. I am not arguing that they did not cheat, but other clubs have broken league rules and FFP rules, yet their trophies were not stripped from them. But that is not even my point. My point is that people are expecting the trophies they won in 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 to be stripped from them too. How does that make sense when the period that they were accused of was 2009-2018? Why is nobody getting that? And people are acting like it was only because of the money they spent that they were able to win those trophies. Manchester United has spent 1.6 billion in the last 10 years, while City has spent 1.65 billion, yet City has been way more successful. Liverpool has spent 1.1 billion, Chelsea has spent 2.4 billion, and Arsenal has spent 1.4 billion in the last 10 years, so it's not like City were the only ones spending money. Other teams also spent money. So you can't say City were successful simply because they cheated. Other clubs that broke the FFP rules also had an advantage that other clubs didn't. Why didn't they get the trophies they won in that period stripped? You've got to take your hate out of it and look at it logically. Nothing will happen to Manchester City games played because this case is a different case. The allegations are made against their financial deals and not what happened on the field. Assuming Manchester City paid referee, manipulated games and paid some people in the Premier League to win the league then there is going to be a different case because that is manipulation of games which directly or indirectly impact the transparency of the game.
At least someone gets it. I'm tired of explaining the same thing over and over again. It's obvious so many people were sick of how Man City dominated the league, they just want an excuse to take their trophies away. The games were played fairly, so you can punish them for what they have already won on the pitch.

Nope, that's not Pochetino thought, he isn't saying that City shouldn't get punishement. He is saying that now matter how big penalty will be, it's not going to fix damage that was done in all these long years. You can give them $1 billion fine, kick them out to National league and still it's not going to be enough. Stolen titles from other clubs, stolen potential revenue, after all - stolen emotions from fans of other clubs. It's impossible to fix these things.

It’s a shame this is a civil case rather than a criminal one, under the criminal code, obstruction of justice, concealment of evidence, and the like can bury you deep all on their own.

You are definitely a city fan judging from what you wrote. You think FFA existed for joke? They set that rule so the league does not entertain any form of cheating. If they didn't introduce FFA, so many clubs will even take loans to finance their clubs. If other clubs agree to this and Manchester City has been doing this for long, they definitely deserve the consequences of the Premier League actions. Why now? This should have been done like 2 seasons ago, at least we know that it would be a quick action to whoever mess with the rules but I still can't understand why they waited for this long to pressure them on these charges. You didn't follow up the case did you. It was first led by UEFA and City won the case right now it's Premier League that is pushing the case because they won the title 4 good times. They cheated the system and made sure they got away with it. If Manchester City could do this and nothing is done against it, I hope you will not be mad by the Arsenal do the same and win the Premier League like 8 times.

They will still refuse and it is reasonable after seeing how they reject the charges by appeal but in the end when the verdict is already there then they will also lose power by itself. The 114 charges received from the 115 previously filed charges must have panicked them because it would also be very difficult to get out of this situation without harm so the only way is to try to stay with the initial conviction in which they pleaded not guilty although this is also not entirely helpful. I am quite curious about most of the players later because when the sanction is heavy enough even to relegation then it is likely that the star players will also go looking for alternatives for a new club.

Manchester City committed a very big offense that they even deserve a ban for some numbers of years for putting the Premier League into this mess. What they committed is a high level criminal act and there's no justification for what they have done. I think they have until Friday to make an appeal but what will even be the need of the appeal if every evidences has proven that they are guilty of the charges.

What I'm saying is that they were able to get a shortcut to success. They spent more than what they were supposed to and they tried to hide it. They created a shortcut for their own advantage. Otherwise they could have tried to win those trophies with the players they already had. I never said City won ONLY because they cheated but it's clearly that being able to buy whatever player they wanted of course helped them a lot. Especially because in the meantime other teams had to sell players in order to comply with the regulations. City felt like they were above the rules. Other clubs that broke the FFP rules also had an advantage that other clubs didn't. Why didn't they get the trophies they won in that period stripped? Who are all these clubs who broke the FFP rules and didn't get punished? You've got to take your hate out of it and look at it logically. Again, as I already said, I couldn't care less about City or whoever wins the Premier League. It's not my country.

The Everton-Burnley compensation angle is interesting, and it makes the timing of City's verdict even more intriguing. Maybe the World Cup cover theory isn't so far-fetched after all.

It was broken by David Ornstein and theathleticfc, i was talking about an official report from the Premier League, i am yet to see that, you can share it with me if i have missed it. I am also not sure where the "14 days to appeal" is coming from. I have just checked davidornstein's IG page and i couldn't find that.

This is so sick. I wish they're fined instead, that seems like the best punishment to them—I'd still love to see Mancity play and keeping the EPL highly competitive.
What would be even more sickening is if they were only punished with fines -- they have billions to throw away... I don't even know yet which outcome is worth betting on, if I find an interesting market, I'll definitely tag you I'd want to bet on outright expulsion, I don't think it's ever happened before (I know, I know, I should Google it but I'm a dinosaur who doesn't like Googling everything haha) and I'm not a mean person, I still think all City players should keep their medals and what not, but the club has to have an appropriate and proportionate reaction. Expulsion would not be inappropriate nor disproportionate. I remember my relegation outright and it was priced much better, but prefer not to be reminded of how much I lost due to the (alck of) speed the FA took to do the right thing.
