I also thought the same when I saw them playing yet here they are despite being destroyed by Germany in their first game which they lost 7-1 and they even draw 1-1 at a certain point. teams like Cape Verde can sometimes create a sensation draw against a stronger opponent but this is achieved by playing in defense the whole match with little attempt at attack. such matches are boring to watch and games are much more interesting with two opponents of comparable strength. a one-sided game isn't very spectacular even if sometimes sensation happens. I suspect Cape Verde will try to defend the draw in other two matches sacrificing their attacking efforts. in my opinion Curaçao looked even more interesting in attack in their match than Cape Verde.

It's a bit self explanatory if you did even the most basic research into how they qualified, as stated in the first response. It's actually a bit insulting to the skill of their players that just because they're a small island nation you think they somehow don't deserve a place in such a tournament, quite the opposite - they have shown incredible skill per capita. FIFA is definitely corrupt but for many other reasons and the way that teams make it to the world cup is very open and transparent. It's all the other trash that goes on, like bending to the highest bidders, cosying up to host nations even when their is clear wrong doing and messing with the game to jam more adverting breaks in, that really gets people annoyed.

Well the main reason was 3 teams already going, so only handful of teams left, and almost everyone joined, that's the real answer.

In north America, you have only a few teams left, and almost all of them went to world cup, because the cup was in north American ad all three big teams were hosting so automatically there, so it is not really a shocking thing that we are seeing this.
