So both of you guys are wrong. Messi was turned 39 years old as per june 24. Nevertheless, in term of goal scoring Messi is still topping the chart as a player with most of goals in WC history. He may add more in the upcoming games.
I use to say that Messi is overhyped but if we actually check the record he has a high number of goals go look compared to Ronaldo, even though it is just a slight difference Messi is still at the the top. Ronaldo has been on everyone's story since Portugal's last game and seems to be the trending player but at the end of the day we just have to wait until the end of the world cup to conclude.
Messi has fantastic club (especially with Barcelona) and national team achievements behind him and it is unlikely that anyone will surpass him in the near future.
It is true that Ronaldo won one European Championship title with Portugal, but Messi won both the South American Championship and the World Championship with Argentina.
With Barcelona, he won more trophies than Ronaldo and he also won more personal recognitions such as the award for the best footballer in the world.
Now he is playing fantastically again at this World Cup and with him, Argentina has a good chance to win the title at this World Cup again, which would make Messi the greatest footballer of all time without any further doubt.
