Porto managed to start the league with a win, defeating Alverca 2-0 at home in their first league match. Although Porto scored both goals in the first half, they didn’t play particularly well; however, I should note that they won thanks to their home-field advantage. Alverca had a good preseason. It’s worth noting that they won all of their preseason matches and conceded a goal in only one of them. Still, we can say they put up a good fight against Porto. The defending champions kicked off the league with 3 points by defeating them at home.

Estrela Amadora 2 - 2 Sporting

I watched this game and commented on it when the first half ended without either team scoring. I didn't imagine there would be 4 goals in the second half. But when the first half ended, I immediately started believing that Sporting wouldn't win and that my parlay was lost.

The funniest thing about this game is that until the 59th minute, Sporting had scored 2 goals while Estrela Amadora had 0. For a big team like Sporting, anyone would think "those guys have already won the game..." but it's unbelievable that Estrela Amadora scored 2 goals and the game ended in a draw. It was clear, at least, that Sporting wouldn't be able to compete with Porto.

Benfica 2 - 2 Académico

When Benfica scored very early, at 10 minutes into the first half, I thought: "Was I wrong about this new coach not being capable?" But then I started to see a lot of selfishness from the Benfica players; each one wanted to score even when they weren't in the best position and their teammate was. It immediately occurred to me that they wouldn't win that way, and I was right. The game ended in a draw. With the childishness that certain Benfica players showed in that game, I'm convinced that these guys won't be champions.

FC Porto 2-0 Alverca

As expected from Porto, these guys, in my opinion, have everything to become champions again; only a stroke of bad luck would make them lose the title.

When Benfica scored very early, at 10 minutes into the first half, I thought: "Was I wrong about this new coach not being capable?" But then I started to see a lot of selfishness from the Benfica players; each one wanted to score even when they weren't in the best position and their teammate was. It immediately occurred to me that they wouldn't win that way, and I was right. The game ended in a draw. With the childishness that certain Benfica players showed in that game, I'm convinced that these guys won't be champions.

In Benfica's case, the coach needs to give these players a dressing down. We've certainly seen some of them behaving selfishly in several plays, which could have resulted in better outcomes.

But they were also unlucky, because they rebounded 3 or 4 times and the ball hit the posts/crossbar. Either approach could have done more, without a doubt.


In Porto's case, a team like Porto winning the game with two goals scored from penalties against Alverca doesn't demonstrate that much quality. In the end, what we saw was three teams with performances that were a little below expectations, but one of them had more luck, so to speak. Either way, it's part of the game.

I am in the same boat. I had tickets on both Sporting and Benfica, but their draws made me very frustrated especially Benfica, who, unlike Sporting, played at home, scored first in the first half, regained the lead in the second half, but eventually was not able to capitalize on all of these efforts and ended in this devastating ^{for me}  draw.

Maybe the reason was that Benfica were tired after the Europa League match, where they beat Hearts 6-1. Because that match was just three days ago. I don't know, but they played well, I think that in this draw, the only complaints should be about Benfica’s defense. By the way, Braga also played their match to a draw yesterday, so the Portuguese championship turned out to be one of the most difficult for betting.

Benfica conceded another goal in the 67th minute and, despite dominating the match and creating numerous scoring opportunities, was unable to find the winning goal. Gianluca Prestianni, who finished the match with one goal and one assist for Benfica, was the standout player.

Judging by their Europa League performances, they appeared to be in excellent form, and this match should have been n easy win for them, especially since it was a home game. Yet, right from the opening round, they’ve handed Porto a two point head start. Sporting and Braga did the same, consequently Porto holds the top spot right from the start.

The dressing down should be channeled into fixing how they defend together and the defenders in total. That was the opening game of the season and one can see that if they the backline is not secure and able to defend themselves when taking the lead, they're good as dead. The way they conceded those two goals disturbing for a big club like them. I mean through a corner and also a set piece kinda goal.
Above all, they played good football yesterday, but good football without a proper defence is like shit.

I can agree to these self-centered shots, when they should have passed the ball for the teammate in a better position for goal. I expect changes and upgrades ahead of the next game and if they fail to do that, they will see themselves conceding goals.

No words about Porto, I honestly didn't see their game.
