Im not TryNin_a that exceel on coding all that amazing website for the community
I'm reading everything but wasn't planning on commenting (polluting?) this thread, but since you wrote my name... Grin

IMO, it's clear there's difference between someone participating on a paid pool, kinda like a local community inside the gambling board, and people going to the FIFA 2026 mega thread to say: "Messi can never be replace because is Messi" + lines and lines of generic crap, just to +1 and move on to the next mega thread (real example of a rightfully banned user from a few pages ago).

Looking at your recent posts (page 1 and 2), I don't think you're writing anything remotely close to the worst crap I can find in the gambling board. I have a list of 20+ users that I would ban first before thinking about you.

I'm not even saying you should definitely be unbanned, but seeing many good members defending you, and knowing there is a real community of gamblers inside the gambling board (just like a community of traders and real bitcoins insider the WO thread), I probably wouldn't be so harsh. And even if we decide we want a forum that is much more high quality than your average posts, there is a lot of bigger fish in the sea to catch first.

Btw, I probably agree with 99% of the other bans, NigerianDragon (someone's alt) can go away. Cheesy

In my opinion, let's focus on why spammers can rank up with merit easily rather than wasting time to check their posts with plagiarism or AI, they already complained about that.
Why spammers can rank up easily? That's a one-way channel that'd create different problems rather than find a definitive solution. How? Almost every successful account farm has a reservoir of merit; it's either a corrupt merit source who, prior to their success was selected and supported to represent their interest, or a large circulation through the local board's Kartel.
Merit on its own is not moderated by the forum unless an outrageous number gets dumped on a post that's worth nothing but the trash, only then can it trigger an investigation. That would force you into having to control the entire circulation process , which may not totally be impossible but;
__ What quality deserves merit remains subjective to one's own discretion.
__ For a continuous process, it's time taking and too much work load.
__ It breaks the "freedom of speech" course to which the forum runs.

I don't know if people think that on other gambling forums where people don't get paid to write, the discussions are at the level of statistics professors.
Even in a gathering of professors, they all have areas of specialties. Just be sure to be the best at what you do, right?

Also look at you man. Do you want people to act like you? Which always like to step on the rights of other people just to get merit? Merit is not the whole thing man. Not all people same as you. Hope to see @theymos came here and release his statements towards massive abuse happening now.

Yeah, he heavily in favor for those who earn merit on different way specifically his nuts busting gang.

Take for example use like lovesmayfamilis, finneystruevision, aazaki and many more that work on “investigation work. They post sucks on gambling board that worst than some of the sig ban user yet they are compensating with their merit jerking investigation post which for god sake doesn’t generate needed traffic to the casino they are promoting.

This merit outside gambling board is the first issue I pointed out before when we first have an argument with certain user here on basis for campaign selection yet this is now the problem on what currently happening on the forum.

Quote

from my personal point of view... quality in the forum is "measured" by merits and it's the only "valuable" fact to be keep in mind.
users who write quality posts are "rewarded" in this way and in general this type of evaluation is used to understand "who spams" or creates "valuable contents".

I would use this criteria (example merit in the last 120 days/full history of merits) to understand who creates content of a certain level = more people read its contents = more visibility to the signature....

Only true if the merits that you get is from the gambling thread and not on other thread that is not related on gambling because this campaign is a Casino and you know how hard to get merit on gambling board.

Banned from displaying signatures until Bitcoin 1M

But I would ask to think about these users in gambling. I might consider that asking such accounts to diversify their content would actually direct them to change their behaviour artificially, posting in subs they aren't actually interested in. To achieve content diveristy and perhaps gain merits.
You're truly right about that but spammers always adapt.

Mega thread? Ok, they will create many new threads in gambling board and I think you know about their complaints many times like while threads in gambling discussion board were either locked or deleted.

Gambling discussion board? Ok, they will spam more in local boards or other boards of the forum.

and next ...  Cheesy

Expecting nothing less would be a huge mistake, when it’s about creating post to meet up quotas, once there is a formula then you should expect that people would always function in accordance to that formula, that’s why quality post has never being defined in no particular way and it’s accreditation has always rest on the recipient of the content.

Gambling is always going to have the most mega threads but, the pools is a whole different story as it’s a paid to participate and those that participate always have an on going discussion, a banter to follow and are always matched against themselves. It’s a most proactive way to be a forum user because it’s not free, you are giving something for the bragging rights and prizes.

If that could be noted, it would help.

I do like Gambling and I was part of a Casino signature campaign in the past.  Probably more than only one but to be honest I can not really remember.

Generally.  I do not like talking about my gambling.  But considering I agreed to the campaign terms and had to participate in Gambling Discussions often as part of that campaign, I can understand why there is a really big disproportion between post counts and Merits.  It does not matter how much or little effort you try to put in a reply or a started Topic, the chances of getting Merits in that Board over all are extremely low.

One example I can give is my own Topic that I can remember I had a very big curiosity to start particularly because I have never seen this question being asked or discussed,

I see a lot of gamblers here say the end result will inevitably be a loss.  As in by gambling we are all simply throwing Money at a Casino, as if we are paying the price we want to pay for our own entertainment rather than putting the Money in a system that may or may not reward us.

Statistically I know this is the case for the most part.  The more you gamble the more it becomes likely that you will lose to the Casino.  However.  Some people believe there is NO WAY out other than losing.

If this is the case then why are you sad about your losses and why do you continue gambling?  Why do you not play a Casino simulation game where you bet zero real Money but continue to gamble inexistent tokens like Monopoly Money?

If you go to the Topic (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5563528.0), you can see it contains 22 pages and a total of 421 replies.  Out of 421 replies only TWO were given Merits.  One Merit each.  And even these two were in fact a Merit exchange between Etranger (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2709122) and summonerrk (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=885256).

Now.  If you go and look through all these 421 replies it is impossible that no other reply deserved one Merit at the very least.  It is not only a probably bad situation of Merit sources over there but I admit it is also our fault.  I could have sent some Merits.  Others could have sent me if they thought I deserved any.  But I did want to share my own experience on that Board and it is REALLY difficult to progress your Bitcoin Talk account over there if you are focused mostly on gambling.  And in Topics where sports gambling is being discussed, the situation is even worse.  Over all however I do find it unfair if someone gets a signature ban only because gamblers collectively do not really share Merits a lot in that place.

But on the other hand.  I am not even sure if the total received Merits in the Gambling Board should be a way of looking at whether someone deserves a ban or not.  Because by definition,

Merit is a new system created in order to reward quality contributions to the forum.
You are awarded merit by people of the community if they find your post helpful or informative.

Are gambling discussions a quality contribution to the Forum considering this is the Bitcoin Talk Forum?  I would personally say no.  And if they are not then should there be an expectation that active gamblers earn Merits on that Board?  It is rare that gambling discussions are 'helpful' or 'informative' and I do not think how someone can generate a lot of Merits on there if that means fillippone level of helpful or informative.

In fact.  I would bet a significant portion of the Merit being exchanged over there comes from alternative accounts and account farms because most times I did see a Merited post, I wondered why the person decided that reply was worth Merits at all.

-----

Looks like your reasoning is out of the line. Just because of merits? Man many member here don't chase for earn merit. They have areas of interest and it happen many people like gambling. It doesn't mean they post on that section automatically they are spammer.

Also look at you man. Do you want people to act like you? Which always like to step on the rights of other people just to get merit? Merit is not the whole thing man. Not all people same as you. Hope to see @theymos came here and release his statements towards massive abuse happening now.

Wow! You must be a genius! Or a bot!

You are doing fine. I just posted the scores of the users above my post until the manager whose his campaigns are infested by spammers. Although he is having a bad score but he is a known person here and has a lot of merits (most of them coming from his friends and the campaigns). Anyway, I had a lot of respect to him until now and I think that should not give him an immunity as a manager and reputable person since he is enrolled in a signature campaign after all.
I have no problem with anyone and I am not trying to but I don't like double standards here. You can take a look on the comment under his score

A Sigban doesn't stop them from doing any of this, but most of them stopped posting the moment they stopped getting paid. What does that tell you about these accounts?

As for arallmuus' case: he's not on my Ignore list. After 10960 posts, that means I haven't seen worthless posts from this user on the boards I often read, and a quick look at his post history doesn't convince me he should be Sigbanned. But I don't have time to thoroughly go through it now.

I can agree with that. I picked a random page twice to check, and all his posts look like they were written by a real person, exactly as posts from a user spending time in the gambling section for fun should look. There's a certain characteristic that distinguishes real spammers from those who are genuinely interested in the gambling section ... Spammers don't participate in paid sports pools.

Really wanted to stay out of all this discussion but now I feel compelled to chime in. Above is absolutely 100% correct and as member of all those paid pools and person running some of them I would like to request to remove all paid pools from that scrapper that is looking for shitposts. They are free of spam and generally very clean, we get like 2 shit posts per season inside them and they get reported/removed fast.

Also, there is banter in sport pools and such posts have value even though they may not look like much on the outside. For instance simple post like „lucky bastard“ would have been more than enough to write in multiple occasions to acknowledge the other person beating you fair and square after coming from behind. While we on the inside know context and that post has value, read out on its own, it means nothing.

With the permission of @arallmuus, I'd like to present the information relating to his sigban to @rikafip and @TryNinja, if they agree to participate, and arallmuus agrees they will be neutral mediators.

Looking at the case from @arallmuus, he has become poster boy for “unrightfully banned”. Without looking at other appeals in great detail, his appeal seems to have more gravitas than most of them. If we need to form a committee of mediators to reverse decision like this, what are the chances of regular petition to unban? I know it creates a precedent that will be used by others that are rightfully banned which brings me back to the top of my post. Please listen to members of the community and make an exemption for paid pools in your scripts. If help is needed to provide those pool names/IDs feel free to contact me or any other member that is actually spending a lot of time in gambling and let’s make sigban process one that will actually help gambling sections be a better place.

Merit in gambling compared to other parts of the forum

Merit is notoriously hard to get in gambling sections of the forum and that is a fact, not opinion. There are numerous examples I will just give one here.

This is a post from BSFL where I am updating table standings every single week for 9 seasons. Season has 17 game weeks. Seasons were shorter in the begging but there are also some extra updates so I feel that is correct approximation. So that means I had about 150 updates of that post, lost about half an hour to create the data every time. That post is used by all BSFL participants (72 players) to check their standings. I received in total 11 merits for it and lost about 4500 minutes or 75 hours doing it.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5438071.msg61709245#msg61709245

This is a post I wrote last time I had an argument about receiving merit in gambling. Lost 2 minutes to read a couple of posts above me and dropped a simple opinion.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178336.msg62789430#msg62789430

Same 11 merits. This is example that perfectly shows what you have to do in gambling to receive merit compared to other parts of forum. Merit in gambling should be multiplied by factor of 10 at least to get close to the numbers elsewhere.

Writting this on mobile was PITA, but it was only time I had in last few days while waiting in traffic jam  Grin

Please listen to members of the community and make an exemption for paid pools in your scripts.

I don't know what a "paid pool" is but I'm assuming its a group that pays to participate in a season-long contest. 90% of posters in these threads seem to be better appreciated, although I could be wrong if you expressed your appreciation silently up until today.

This is example that perfectly shows what you have to do in gambling to receive merit compared to other parts of forum. Merit in gambling should be multiplied by factor of 10 at least to get close to the numbers elsewhere.

I think of it a different way: merit is hard to get in gambling sections for a reason. The gambling sections attract the amount of merits they deserve. In the last year I managed to get 52 merits in Gambling Discussion with 195 posts. arallmuus got 33 with 1071 posts. Therefore, merits are not impossible to get there. Some posters just seem to actively avoid receiving them - for whatever reason - regardless of what sections they frequent.

I've noted that this is the account where certain managers decided to draw the line, and in the interest of being reasonable, I've extended an offer to @arallmuus to let a neutral 3rd party review the decisionmaking process behind his particular sigban. I am waiting for him to confirm and suggest a third party he feels neutral if not @Rikafip or @TryNinja. He can PM me if he'd rather.

Thanks for your patience while we sort through this.

Paid pool is a term we used for several slightly different things but it basically boils down to the fact that you have to invest some money in order to be there and play. Even though they are quite profitable since we have sponsors, that initial buy in payment stops shitposters and account farms from joining. We are talking about 10-15 pools per season and they are renewed in the same threads usually so it shouldn't be too hard to make exemption for them in scraping tools. I believe that would provide you with better insight inside gambling section and allow you to actually tackle parts that are problematic.

Don't take my word for it, look at BSFL thread by yourself. I linked it in my previous post in the part where I am talking about how hard it is to get merit in gambling. If you have the access to report logs, check how many posts are written in that thread and how many are reported/deleted. I am expecting results be immensely positive. I consider BSFL to be one of the best projects on whole forum (probably biased since I am running it together with cryptofrka) but even objective outsider would definitely agree it isn’t spam mega thread and I am quite sure your tools are looking at it as such.

I am not saying it is impossible to earn merit in Gambling section, hell I earned most of my merits there. I am saying it requires immensely more effort than doing it elsewhere, and that goes double for accounts that aren't seen as „providers“. I find that people are much more generous with merits and the way they talk about people that actually bring money to them. So campaign managers, mods.... anyone they deem they can have more use to be on good terms with. If I write any shit as campaign manager I will get merit for that. But I still remember how it was before I was running all those threads. You can counter argue why they aren't opening and running their own threads...well it is not easy to find sponsors and organize everything and not everyone should not be forced to do it.

Remove stats for top 100 or 200 most recognized profiles and then look at it. We aren’t the norm, we are positive outliers. Comparing any of us with regular users is a bit unfair to them.

For me it is a solid line between shit posters that should be banned and cases like this one with arallmuus. Yeah, he is not the top bitcointalk profile but not all of us can be that. I feel like there are so many worse posters than him and he was the drop that tipped the scales for me to chime in, since I felt his case should be easily defendable. There were others before him that are part of our community where I felt bans were undeserved but they wouldn’t get this kind of exposure and critical mass to actually give enough leverage to try to change something or influence your process. I am nothing if not pragmatic.

I think I will stop now unless I receive a direct question from you or someone else. Enough has been said about this topic probably and I just hope you will consider altering your approach to gambling section a bit.

Please accept my another 2 sats (total 4 sats). Look, what people would do when they aren't being paid to post? They would be posting genuinely so I suggest focus solely on this criteria first — i.e. does user's post(s) sound genuine? And focus on rest like — where user posts, merits received, etc to a lesser extent.

I am sure there must be users who are good pretenders, but I still feel this is good criteria to base decisions on. I thought in my ignorance that it should already be the case but arallmuus's case says otherwise.

I accept that if people are offended by signban in first place they may not be posting genuinely but I am leaving that aside cause some sigbans seem unfair. What's wrong with signatures motivating the authentic expression?

Edit: Cents changed to sats.

@nutildah What exactly is so special about @arallmuus account that it deserves different treatment from all the other accounts that were sigbanned?

If this kind of neutral third-party review was considered reasonable, it should have been offered from the very beginning, not only after a group of user started appealing or questioning the decisions.

If the process was truly unbiased, the same opportunity should have been available to everyone affected by a sigban. Not selectively offered only when people started pushing back.

I thought the whole point was that there’s no bias involved here. Because from the outside, this looks exactly like special treatment.

I did make a similar offer here, which was unfortunately ignored. I'm pretty sure I reserve the right to make or with-hold this offer.

I'm offering it again now because its an opportunity to improve the process.

this is a sigban appeal thread, if there is good reason to unban a user then why should you have a problem with that?

do you want all sigban appeal to be ignored? if that's what you want, this thread shouldn't have been created at first.

if two or more reputable members solicits for a particular user to be unbanned, provided they present justifiable reasons then such a user should be considered.

we are not in autocracy here, despite nutildah being a hypocrite, i like him being considerate

I personally dont think I made unoriginal low effort replies, off topic, generic comments or anything that falls to the bad posting or for the sake of posting only to get paid criteria nor do I burst posting

Its not where you're posting or what subjects you're posting about so much as using the same words to describe the same ideas repeatedly, and these posts do not seem to be appreciated by the community. In the last year you made 439 posts and received 17 merits (including 4 today). That's about 25 posts per merit, which is substantially lower than average for anyone in a signature campaign.

If you weren't already a Legendary account, do you believe you would get accepted into a signature campaign today?

I hate it when you analyse a quality poster based on the number of merits they earned in the past month, last year or 120 days ago. do you know how difficult it is to earn merit in the forum?

with just 85 merit sources with less than 31000 merits airdropped monthly, do you think it merit can really be so much in circulation to merit every posts (fuck quality posts because most of you give merits to posts you agree with and not because of its quality)?

most of your merits were gotten from creating threads, if they were ordinary reply posts do you think you would have gotten so much merits?

fuck off with your merit criteria for identifying a quality poster, you are the reason why many users are farming merits in various threads

read this
earning merits should not be used to identify quality posters because the merit system has already failed ---- people form cartels and gangs where they merit each other, moreover, there are few merit sources therefore merit circulation will be limited.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. You doing it selectively, when it possible have been part of the process from the beginning of sigban.

Like it shouldn't be one person deciding who gets sigbanned and then deciding afterward who deserves an additional review. There should be consistent procedure involving more than one person from the start not only you. (sorry if someone is already mentioned this and I being repeatedly)

You can't call it neutral process when the rules and opportunity being applied differently depending on the case.

Do this using new account or garbage account then post again here to prove your point.

Merit system in the forum is very subjective depending on the poster not on the quality of the post most of the time. Hell yeah a newbie can gain that huge merit proportion per post without any connection to other user either a local board, friend or merit butt buddy on gambling board. Bitcoin technical and Bitcoin discussion is different case since many merit source lurk around on post.

Your account already established a good reputation that even a single one liner shit post with pun intended can get a merit without any question.

You seem to have a lot of fans who feel I've infringed on your freedoms. They are long-time fans of yours

I dont mind you calling me whatever but dont call them that, they are good members of bitcointalk forum especially from the gambling community. They could sit back and watch the show but they decided to share their throughts thoughts about this situation and they are even on the same line with you regarding the sigban on most accounts

He can PM me if he'd rather.

which was unfortunately ignored. I'm pretty sure I reserve the right to make or with-hold this offer.

I'm offering it again now because its an opportunity to improve the process.

I personally dont want to drag the other party into this since from the start they were not involved in the banning process but I guess this is the only way for my appeal to go through the next stage? Im going to send a PM regarding this

I really appreciated everyone that share their thoughts about this matter and on sigban in general so far. I hope conclusion would be reached soon, Cheers !

This seems like a superficial and pointless concern. There is nothing neutral here, theymos decides the whole moderation team which nutildah is included in with limited capacity and a focus on signature bans. Theymos does not micro manage the moderation, which means that probably around 99.9% of the decisions are made at the discretion of the person who is making it. This thread here is extremely unusual for the process that is already in place, and its very existence is giving way too many generosity and leniency towards offering minimum-bias bans. Letting each useless shitposting parasite get an appeal process would only slow down a very long queue of long-deserved bans, it is pointless. We are not executing people here with a guillotine, a couple "innocent" victims here and there is fine -- worse, you can't even call anyone innocent because the whole process is about a subjectively evaluated thing.

Don't unnecessarily slow down the process, find ways to improve it instead.

OK, let's try a different angle here. I'm an old grumpy man but I mostly mean well.
Please ignore some of my writing style that you feel is too direct - I've seen my fair share of shit in life so generally don't feel the urge to be liked anymore. I don't have a personal grudge against you, nor do I feel anything in my posts suggests so.
I'm not here to argue - but I also feel that I'm due some explanations when asking legitimate questions.

What I do feel is that, when such changes are being made, forum experience and reputation from established users should be respected - and their voices heard when they actually spend their free time to offer opinions.
So far you haven't responded to any of the questions from buwaytress and myself and briefly touched on one aspect of Trofo's post which just showed that you're out of your depth when analyzing gambling boards.

We are highly trusted members (top 50 recognized BTT members according to BPIP) that spend all of our time on the gambling boards. If it's not us you plan to engage with, then we can skip all talk about 'improvements' and I'll simply call it a power flex.
We had a fair share of these in the past, we'll have more in the future. If that's the case so be it, but I've heard good things about you from people whose opinions I value, and I hope you will start approaching this job in a more openminded manner.
Most of these people privately told me they don't agree with what's currently happening. Not sure why everybody's so afraid to speak up on a fucking forum though - but that's another topic and another reason why BTT is as disappointing as it is.

You should know that we're trying to improve gambling boards for years. We work on bringing sponsors, creating competitions that bring value, build camaraderie and try to create a 'bubble' in all the bullshit that's been hitting these boards for years.
Now you came, semi-blind, hitting shit left and right. Ignoring our arguments shows a lack of respect to what we're building so please let me ask you once again to change your approach.

I don't know what a "paid pool" is but I'm assuming its a group that pays to participate in a season-long contest. 90% of posters in these threads seem to be better appreciated, although I could be wrong if you expressed your appreciation silently up until today.

See, this here is a major issue and I think you need to familiarize yourself with the gambling boards before continuing with your purge.
It's like giving me a task to connect electricity in a building and I'm colorblind. I can be the best guy in the world but if I don't differentiate red wire from the black one, I'm gonna burn down the building.

Paid pools are basically what fuels the closed circular economy. There are 20 or so paid pools, with a total of 100k$+ in sponsorship money and additional entry fees collected from the community on a yearly basis.
Bookies sponsor them because we bet. Campaign managers rate these posters more because they bring value to the competitions by paying the fee and to the bookie by spending money there. They pay fees and bet by spending signature money.
That is value - so some people from the gambling boards that you think are spammers are quite active in the actual thing that matters there - genuine betting posting and activity.
I ran some of their names through your tools and I expect many of them will be on the chopping list soon - because they write in 'megathreads' and because they don't receive merits.
This will start hurting their income, which will reduce the number of paid pool participants, which will harm the economy that has been growing there recently.

Let me just tell you that I personally read every post in 15+ megathreads that are reserved for paid participants and have never even opened any of the new threads in which you find value.
New threads are a part of the problem - and if you think a post about the upcoming Arsenal - Coventry game has more value inside the 'Arsenal - Coventry discussion' thread than in PL megathread, then it's an opinion I want challenged.

It's a difficult task you've been given. It shouldn't come with a 'I know it all' mindset - reducing true mindless spam is in everybody's interest. Harming the economy should not be, and that's the path you're starting to lean towards.

_________________________________

Also, my RL job forces me to say something else. There should be some defined rules regarding the bans. You have your share of received merits and a good forum rep but that doesn't mean that we should take this as face value that you actually have the skills needed for the job.
We should start with a premise that you need to prove yourself in it and not that you'll do brilliantly because you're a good forum member or generally recognize spam well.
So far from a 'project manager' perspective, this has been poorly handled - and communicated even worse. I've worked in companies that would eat you alive for the lack of transparency and clear rules - and rightfully so.

We currently have the arallmuus case under special treatment because a few of us took his case seriously enough to take a look.

From what I've gathered so far - you have the power to ban and unban. This means that some form of checks and balances is expected down the road, no?
If you ban and then there's a committee to unban, how is the committee triggered? Who chooses committee members?

There are so many things nobody understands. The process needs to be clear and intuitive. What you should be aiming for is to get to a point where people trust you to do the job - and that means being willing to recognize and correct your own mistakes - rather than reaching for a committee the moment your decision gets challenged.
Take the lead, correct what wasn't right and let's move forward. If it takes 10 respected members pointing at the same problem before a committee is needed to reconsider your decision, then the process isn't working.

Your status alone should not give you carte blanche. I'd advise you to acknowledge some of the early hiccups and show us you've got what it takes through clear and transparent rules, actual constructive discussion with people who understand these boards and a mindset that tries to help the economy instead of hindering it.
