I Don't Believe in Superstition, So Why Did I Buy Lottery Numbers From a Dream?

To be honest, I've never been someone who believes in superstition, especially when it comes to gambling. Whenever people around me talked about winning the lottery because of a dream or some "lucky numbers" they received while sleeping, I always dismissed it as pure coincidence.

Because of that, last month was actually the first time in my life that I bought lottery numbers through a local betting site.

What made me do it?

A very strange dream. In the dream, my wife was kidnapped and I was running after the kidnappers. While I was chasing them, I heard someone on the side of the road shouting "Hey, there are 48 kidnappers!" Then the dream suddenly changed. I was already back at home with my wife. Out of nowhere, she said "Six people." A moment later, my parents appeared and one of them said: "Three." That was it. When I woke up, I couldn't stop thinking about those numbers 48, 6, and 3.

I know it sounds ridiculous, but something about the dream felt unusually clear. For some reason, I decided to use those numbers and buy a lottery ticket. And then something happened that I still find hard to explain. The numbers actually came out. Unfortunately, I had rearranged the numbers incorrectly because I wasn't fully convinced and only played a few combinations. So instead of winning, I ended up watching the result and realizing that I had been very close.

As if that wasn't strange enough, the same numbers appeared again five days later.

That part honestly bothered me more than the first result. I kept thinking that if I had trusted my instincts a little more, I might have been much luckier. At the same time, I still couldn't convince myself that dreams have any real connection to lottery results.

Even now, a month later, I still don't know what to think about it.

Was it simply an incredible coincidence?

Or do you think there are times when superstition seems to work, even if we don't really believe in it?

I'm curious to hear whether anyone else has ever experienced something similar.

I want us to first know that the moment you are having a thought over something and sleep over it, you are most likely to dream about that same thing you had in mind last night.

You should not deceive yourself about receiving some numbers or codes while on sleep gamble with, all these are just a superstitious belief, and most of them are not even real, than illusion from our imagination. One thing you will know to confirm this is not real is that many are not involved in doing the same thing other claimed they do.

Such an interesting story and I feel bad for you for the fact that you wasted what should be an opportunity of a lifetime because these things works, you just have to figure out a way of interpreting them. In my case, if I see a number in my dream it is a clear sign that I should abstance from gambling that period .

I have a cousin that have won millions from numbers given to him in the dream which he was able to bet massively in the lottery.  He has had such experience twice, the first was a minor win but the second time he hit te jackpot. Through him I have understood that such things works but it varies from individuals. My advice is that you shouldn't anticipate it, let it happen naturally then you can risk what you can afford to lose.

I'd say it's just a coincidence, personally I won't even think of such dream the way you did with the numbers, I would probably think that it symbolizes a different thing like incoming danger or reminding the person to be aware of what's happening around them. So, I think this is just a coincidence because the twist in the dream is not even pointing towards gambling but danger and confusion.

I've never really dreamed about numbers that way, but even though I'm not a superstitious person, whenever I can, I choose the number 18

I don't know, superstition always remains a mystery for those who like the lottery. 
I also have an experience related to lottery superstition, but it was done by my neighbor, who really likes the lottery. 

It happened in the afternoon when there was a single motorcycle accident, which I happened to pass by. The victim died due to severe head injuries. I took a photo of the vehicle involved in the incident. 
When I got home, I told my neighbor about the incident while showing the picture on my phone. My neighbor immediately took the phone and wrote down some numbers, which turned out to be the number of the vehicle involved in the incident. 
The next morning, he came to me with two packs of cigarettes. He said he won the lottery from the numbers of the vehicle involved in the incident that I had told him about. 

It's hard to believe, but the lottery fans around me really do believe in superstition.

The truth is, when it comes to gambling, betting and so, I never used to believe in superstitions, I never used to believe that there is a  spiritual side until one day that something happened..

Me and my friend used to sell CDs by the road side, it was a small kiosk owned by him and I was only helping him, this was a long time ago around 2009/2010.

One day, a mad man approached the dude and gave him a piece of paper containing five numbers (I think), and told him to go and bet on the numbers.. My friend being someone who doesn't gamble simply threw away the piece of paper the moment the mad man (partially made anyway) was gone.
Someone else who lived in that same street we sell CDs picked the piece of paper and went and bet on those numbers, the next day, people who lived in that street were celebrating because according to what we heard, the man won a huge amount of money, I didn't know how my nigga felt about that incident but I really felt bad for him.

It was a simple coincidence, but people like to think that some kind of divine intervention exists or they are somehow special in the world. The reality is many people who come up with ideas like that often imagine or invent (a polite word for lying) a story for all kinds of different reasons. It doesn't matter if you won 10 bucks or 10 million, the logic goes the same. There's nothing wrong with sticking with a superstition, it's as bonkers and has as much chance of winning as a ranndom set of numbers. Not sure why it needs a whole long story with inane details added in, looks like something that could have come out of chatgpt as filler content. Just accept the win and move on in life.

Superstition or whatever you wanna call it is not helping you win anything. Lotteries are completely random, well they could be rigged, but in most cases completely random. Not sure how much the jackpot was for your specific lottery but here in America your odds of winning the jackpot in the Powerball lottery are 1 in 292 million tickets. Those are some pretty long odds.

Very strange, especially the same number coming up again after a few days. But it doesn't seem like a miracle to me. This could be an example of the human brain's pattern recognition.

If you remember an event very emotionally, then a feeling like a near miss or I would have won by just a little bit, is created unconsciously in the mind. Then you may feel that fate was giving you a hint. But you have to remember that each lottery draw is independent.

Another thing is, if you forget 100 dreams but one dream coincides, then naturally you will think that one is special. Have you ever heard of apophenia? It is a tendency to find meaningful patterns in random events. I think something like that has happened to you.

Oh no you may be having some malaria and you need treatment, anytime I hard such wired time I never take it seriously, rather check my health to see what need to be fix, that not sarcastic any ways.

Four digits provide quite a large number of combinations.  As far as I understand, you bet on "4863"? And didn't win? I suppose it was hard to guess the correct number in the first lottery, even with the help of a prophetic dream.

Well, I don't see this as superstition. Superstition is something else... I had to check, and "Superstition is believing that certain actions or objects influence luck or outcomes". Basically, the belief that certain actions or objects can influence luck or the outcome of events. Your story sounds more like a "premonition or a prophetic dream". Those two are completely different things.

You had a dream, and whether it was an incredible coincidence or something else, nobody can say. But I wouldn't put it in the same category as superstition...

Math is exact... with those 3 numbers, there are only 6 possible combinations. So you needed only 6 bets to cover every possible combination.

Can you dream again next time, and place a bet on the exact numbers you will be shown in the dream? Let's confirm something. Because to me, I'm 100% this is just a mere coincidence and luck, and has absolutely nothing to do with Superstitious beliefs. However, for the fact that it was your first time of buying a lottery ticket, and you happened to have been lucky after placing a bet on the lucky numbers you claimed to have been given from the dream, It is another sign that luck can come from differs ways, because every other person who bought a ticket and lost also saw the numbers from somewhere else too. As some might also claimed they also got given from the dream just like you. So in a nutshell, what I'm only trying to emphasize is that Superstitious beliefs doesn't work with gambling. But however, even a first timer can be lucky too.

It is just a coincidence and not more than that. But you have seen coincidence before? Nobody would not have seen coincidence before in one way or the other. That is exactly what happened to you that you think it is true work of your dream. But I like what you did, any number still selected can be a lucky one, so going for the numbers in your dream is good.

Ontil I have personal experience about dreams and numbers of a thing with gambling and it worked, I can never accept that this events are not coincidence that were replaying in our head before taking to sleep and it continued to manifest equally in the subconsciousness realm.

In not many scenarios I have had wet dreams by just missing the presence of my woman after not seeing her for days and had to think so much about her before falling asleep.

What the mind take to bed is more often than not likely to surface in a dream for the being while asleep.

Dude, if lottery numbers could really be predicted through dream then we would all be winning billions of dollar in the same way on a regular basis.

Do we often see this happen in reality? No. So I will enjoy dreams as stories but I will make betting decisions based on probability, not emotion or superstition.

If we keep giving meaning to all the things we see in dreams, we might begin to behave abnormally. I have had so many encounters in dreams that turned out to be a reflection of my thoughts or experiences.

I would have to agree with you, Dr.Bitcoin_Strange, that it was just a coincidence. But I wouldn't also dispute the fact that gamblers could get winning numbers from different strange ways, but I don't believe in them. Gambling, like the lottery, is mainly determined by luck.

I have actually had dreams where draws were given to me but it was not direct or obvious that what they gave me in the dream was game because it was just a random number and since I do predict draw sometimes all I need do is try to match the number with a particular game in a coupon and sometimes they will give me money in the dream I will be the one to figure out what it means in real life coupon and I have actually used it like twice to get a correct prediction.

Nice story, OP. But there's one lesson there, believing is nothing without true conviction. Maybe that was not the time of your luck then, but you're almost there. Or you just missed the opportunity?

I'm also not really in superstition, but this one, I actually believe in dreaming, as long as you remember the number combination well after waking up. However, there are times dreams do not work either, but majority of those who dream numbers really do come out, if not the following day, then the next week or the next month. Your patience will definitely be tested, even the amount of money you use to keep betting that number.
