If I'm to choose between degrees and running a business?  I will definitely choose business over degree. Because I have seen a lot of graduates struggling to get a job, and some even end up abandoning their certificate to learn skills after all the money and years they spent in school.

Definitely not a bad choice due to the situation of the country we find ourselves but one thing you need to know is that people still start up business and fail. They start from zero again because they lack the skills to manage their business, so it takes a lot to start and run a business. Most people just think that when they have a business, they are settled and have nothing to worry about.

Yet, that's not how easy it is.
It's the same stress and worry for having a degree and having a hard time to find a job and also the risk of being laid off.
Starting a business is even harder, you don't have someone's back and it's all your finances, time and effort that's being put into the line as your bet.
But having a degree is a good back up plan if ever you're not into business and you see yourself working in a company and not for your own business.

For now, there will be more people who think to rationality if faced with a situation like this. Because most will choose a business and it is not a wrong thing because it does see the number of unemployed who have a degree today. But on the other hand, since the beginning of the function of education and Bachelor's degrees are not for work, it's just that today the standard of work qualifications where the higher the degree level, the easier it is to get a job (although for now it's not as easy as imagined).

On the other hand, doing business too, even though it's what we choose, it's also not easy because consciously or not a degree can also be a benchmark when we start a business and build relationships. Maybe this is not a subject in some cases but for my country and personal experience when looking for relationships to strengthen business then we must be required perfect including for educational background. When our educational background is good and the business we run is good enough then this will be much easier but when the educational background is not too good even though the business plan or design is good it is still not easy.

Whether it's a good choice or not depend on the situation. If you don't have the knowledge, experience, a good idea, or enough capital, choosing to start a business can't really be considered a wise choice.

As you said, many people have failed when starting a business. Running a business isn't easy, and just because you start one doesn't mean you'll start making money.

So, choosing between starting a business or pursuing a degree depend on each individual's circumstances, goals, and abilities. Don't make your choice based only on other people's success or failure stories.

The problem with getting a degree is that you might not really get a job instantly or get a job of your choice which makes business a good option. But no one should undermine getting a degree, this comes with a lot of advantages, if you are in the right country this could give you a push that would be favorable to you and in terms of starting a business having a degree could also help you facilitate some aspects of it.
In a working society there is no way you will not get a job after getting a degree it is just the way the society has turned upsidedown ther has made people nit to see values in getting a degree if not I don't see reasons why people will choose business over degrees when they can get their degrees, get a good job and still be comfortable to establish a business.  Personally I will still say you should get a degree before going for business because your knowledge will help you in your business to know how to market whatever you sell and you can't compare yourself that has a degree to someone who just started a business with no knowledge or ways to market himself and his business.

a degree teaches you theory, but running a business is purely about survival, market demand, and execution. most degrees don't teach risk management or cash flow control. skills and real experience beat a paper diploma every time in business, though having a solid background in math or finance definitely helps reduce dumb mistakes

I think that you are getting the whole idea of getting into business wrong, because business will takes you to a level a job cannot take you to, that is why you will see an illiterate as a CEO, and university graduate will be working under him. Most of those  that went into business did not do so as a result of not finding a job, but they did so because they want to be their own boss or them want to make more money, so it's wrong to think that all those that are into business did it as a result of not finding a job.

Why do so many people prefer starting a business over getting a degree?
Because a successful business can bring much higher income, while a job after a degree usually has a fixed salary. A degree takes about 4 years and costs a lot. A business can start with small capital and might grow 4 times in those same 4 years. Plus, many graduates still struggle to find good jobs.

•Do you think a degree is important to run a business, or can skills and experience replace it?
•What would you choose: start a small business without a degree, or get a degree first and then start a business?

It's like many things in the world - boom and bust, the tides going in and out, ying and yang. Everything works in cycles and there's no reason education would not fall into a somewhat similar trap. Many decades ago when more white collar jobs started to appear, which were cleaner than blue collar hard manual labor, they became extremely desirable for obvious reasons. Then those generations had kids while corporate America grew while also consolidating. Our parents and grand parents were conditioned to think that the richest people would be those with degrees, so they pushed their kids hard to do so. Then the education system expanded to cope with the demand which also brought intense competition for the money between universities. Altogether it created recent generations with the belief that university gave access to better paid jobs, which it does, but the market of candidates also became flooded.

Everyone knows the advantages and the disadvantages of gambling, and also aware that they are people who still start up a business and fail. But everyone is wishing for the best. You can't compare yourself to others, because the last time I checked, you are not other people. There is a possibility for you to start up a business and succeed, and also for it to fail. But following the appropriate steps and ways will help you to build up a successful and standard business, despite the fact that business cannot grow up without facing challenges or experiencing failures. If you don't fall, you will never be able to learn how to rise after a fall.

Do people actually prefer a business over a degree or is this something you are asking based on what you prefer because I don't think if a degree is less important we would still be having much graduates today In the society. In my own opinion, getting a degree and running a business are both important and there's nothing wrong in prioritizing both.

If there is one thing I can say is that we must always have a plan b and getting a degree is mostly plan A but should in case things don't go according to plan it is important for us to be able to have something else we can do to help ourselves because getting a degree doesn't guarantee success.

Academic degrees can expend our horizons and help us understand various theories. But when it comes to putting that knowledge into practice, not only degrees but also real-life experience becomes much more important. And as you mentioned in your speech, risk management and cash flow control, I think they play a very important role in both business and long-term investment. Again, when there is a good foundation in mathematics or finance, many wrong decisions and unnecessary losses can be avoided.

If you want to take a business to the brink of success, I don't think that just looking at the pages of a book will work. What people want in the market, how to make decisions according to the situation, and how to implement the plan taken in practice can be learned a lot from experience. Many times, a person realizes which decisions work in reality, and which do not. So, I think that both academic education and real-life experience have different importance.

At the moment being, more individuals will turn to reason when confronted with an issue like this. Because the majority will choose a business, which is not a bad thing given the current amount of jobless people with degrees. However, since the beginning of the role of education, university degrees have not been for work; it is simply that today the norm of work skills is that the higher the degree level, the easier it is to acquire a job (even though this is not always the case).

And the other side of things, establishing business, even if it is what we chose, is not easy because a degree, whether intentionally or knowingly, can be used as a standard when starting a firm and building business relationships. Maybe this is not a subject in some circumstances, but in my country and from my experience, while seeking for
relationships to strengthen company, we must be faultless, including our educational background. When our educational background is good and the business we operate is good enough, this will be much easier; but, when our academic record is not too good, even if the business plan or 7structure is strong, it is still harder.

In my country there are intelligence analyst (Dharma Porengkun) which said that a standardized modern curriculum in many countries not intended to make people truly smart only to educate and train people to be ready to become workers or industrial workers. I think this opinion makes sense, even we know fegree also create, researcher, doctor, enterpreneur, engineer, leader but but the number is small compared to those that failed. The main problem of today education are uniformity of education which make it not optimal for infividual. Standarization ignoring every human is special with different spesification. I think this is one of the reasons education is ineffective and why many people ultimately view it as no guarantee of a future.

experience and skill are very important, but saying they are always far more valuable than a degree is a bit too absolute and exaggerated.

a degree mainly provides theoretical knowledge, but that does not mean we should underestimate it. a solid foundation of knowledge is still important, especially in fields like finance, economic, and mathematic.
having some basic knowledge beforehand makes it much easier to build experience and develop practical skill, instead of having to figure everything out from scratch.

when faced with the same problem, someone who has both basic knowledge and practical experience will obviously have an advantage over someone who only has experience. imo, combining knowledge and experience is a much better approach.
