Those that are new in this forum can’t actually know all the forum rules at once, the longer you stay in this forum the more you know the rules very well. If you are new here don’t put too much pressure on yourself to know everything at once, just take it one step at a time. The longer you stay here the more things you will know. We shouldn’t be too harsh on newbies for breaking some simple rules in this forum because some of them actually broke the rule out of ignorance. When I newly joined this forum I didn’t know all the rules, but the longer I stayed the more familiar those rules were to me. I will encourage those that are new in this forum to always visit the meta and reputation board, some cases over there will help you know what you should do or not do in this forum This advice is not for beginners alone even some older members in this forum, because I believe some older members still don’t know all the rules. Lastly try to read the pinned posts in every board you visit
Learning is a gradual process, so if you have found yourself here in this platform you shouldn't rush to gain every knowledge at once as not to make the platform very difficult for you. Many of us are like that when we newly entered the platform, the interest was to understand the rules and regulations that will keep you safe here without infringing on the rules of the platform, and this is the need why newbies should actually take their time, to study the do's and don'ts of the platform in other to avoid any negative responses from the admin. It is also very important to encourage newbies because I believe everyone here have once passed through that stage , your encouragement, and mild admonition will help them a lot to grow, and make meaningful impact in this very bitcointalk forum. Newbies should learn to see criticism as a way to grow and learn the right way in this forum because most times we may get information mixed up in our head seeing that we are still new and get backlash or spoken to in harsh tone from our seniors here. So I for one try to learn from being criticized and not as a target meant to hurt me, but make me grow. I also didn't know my way around or the kind of post to make or reply, but I think time is a great teacher and it has taught me better than any mentor or guide could ever, so it's more about patience and dedication and consistent effort or research and learning that makes a newbie become better and please the rules instead of to break it.

Most of the time when newbies come to the forum, they make some mistakes, because of which many people criticize them. Because of this some genuine newbies leave the forum. They think that the forum is not for them and that they will not be able to do anything on the forum but actually this is not true. In the beginning everyone makes mistakes more or less. That is why I also think that they should not see criticism as a barrier but should use it as a learning tool. I think those who are new to the forum should read the sticky threads properly post accordingly and also visit the Meta and Reputation boards analyze everyone's conversations and learn from what mistakes they made. I think if they do these things it will become much easier for newbies to survive.

They are firstly not newbies, secondly they either knew well about the forum so that they knew how to ask questions that can easily get merit from forum members like a warm welcome to newbies. Mostly they belong to such categories and very few actual newbies are lazy with reading, just asking. You're right with both observations. And I guess the second part of not being keen on perusing things first with the intent to learn has a lot to do with dearth of reading culture, globally. This generation finds it more appealing watching videos than reading. Entertainment is gradually taking the place of assimilation and it's glaring in the manner questions are asked on issues they can get answers to by themselves if they only took a few minutes to look at it themselves.

I think those who are new to the forum should read the sticky threads properly post accordingly and also visit the Meta and Reputation boards analyze everyone's conversations and learn from what mistakes they made. I think if they do these things it will become much easier for newbies to survive. In fact, I have personal experience that I persuaded 2 friends to register on this forum and both times it got complicated so that they eventually gave up on the forum. The first friend didn't even manage to register on the forum because his IP address was recognized as suspicious and he was asked to pay some small "evil fee" if I remember correctly. Of course, as someone who had just heard about bitcoin and crypto, he didn't have any btc and wasn't even sure if crypto was for him or not. He didn't want to accept my offer to pay him that fee and concluded that crypto wasn't for him after all. The second friend managed to register on the forum and maybe a week or two after registering, he saw some prize game on my local board and signed up. This angered one older member so much, who probably concluded that the account was created for that very purpose, that he publicly attacked him and that member then completely withdrew from the forum and never returned. So I can confirm from personal experience that there are cases where new members give up on the forum because of the attitude and attitude of older members towards them or some other problems when registering on the forum. Of course, some people accept criticism more easily, while others find it difficult and take it too emotionally. The forum rules are self-explanatory for us, the older members, but you should still show more patience with new members and help them in the beginning, and give them a new chance, when possible, even if they break a rule.

I do agree that the basic rules aren't really that much to understand. Particularly with regards to plagiarism. Malware links or obvious abuse for the sake of this example. I believe the more difficult part of being a new in boarder is understanding what expectations are built up around various boards. Understanding a rule means knowing it. But it does not mean that you know how to use it in practice. For instance a novice could avoid plagiarizing while writing mediocre posts or even duplicate topics or not understand what a substantive discussion entails. Reading and learning from older posts and the way the seasoned members participate can be more beneficial than reading the rules once.

Sadly, most newbies feel it's waste of their time. Because it's not really their goal to obey the rules on this forum, but they care more about how they can make more money through this forum. They will not read the embedded post and choose to ask questions and create threads that are even the same as the embedded threads. The repetition of this kind of post continues to happen and never even stops, so there is no new topic that can be discussed, even though all explanations are available and if you want to find a post you can use the party tool when like bitlist.co, talksearch.io can search for the topic more accurately.

Because it's not really their goal to obey the rules on this forum, but they care more about how they can make more money through this forum. You can't be sure as to make that assertion that it's the only goal for which they're here – to make money. There could be some who stumbled on this forum out of curiosity without even knowing money could be made here until they started going through comments here and visiting the Service section. We shouldn't be thinking every real newbie here is that way. One thing I've observed with the current crop of newbies we've here is impatience. They hardly want to take their time to read through stuff before rushing to ask questions or create posts. But it's not as if asking questions is a bad thing. It's just that rush. They should learn the virtue of patience and DYOR. .. if you want to find a post you can use the party tool when like bitlist.co, talksearch.io can search for the topic more accurately.
We've to agree that not everyone is tech savvy, and as such may not know how to use tools in doing all that. Besides, every new site we get on often look strange to us until we spend time to find out how things work there. I remember my early days at the other forum, despite that I've been here several years, I used to find navigation there a bit difficult. It's the same thing I expect from genuine newbies here and that's why I often cut them some slacks

Allow me to ask, why didn't you step up for your second friend? If the prize game allowed newbies to participate, did you not put the older member in its place and defended your friend? Maybe you did, I can't and don't know the story of this. But from how you described it, it sounds like you were just a bystander doing nothing. (I'm not accusing you of it!) I've no personal experience with having introduced friends to the forum so far, because I deliberately keep a low profile and don't talk in public with friends and strangers about any involvement of mine with crypto and Bitcoin in particular. I would say, if someone introduces someone else to the forum, they should mentor their new "friends" a bit more. At least, that's what I would do if I had stepped in their shoes.

Rules and regulations are not hidden in any organisation; same thing as this forum. They are what a newbie should consult first before navigating through the forum. If a beginner has the rules at hand, they can try to avoid violating any of the rules of the forum, but if the beginner wasn't able to go through the rules completely and violated any of the rules, they will face any penalty involved and will take it as a consequence of not going through the rules before posting in the forum. Meanwhile, the forum has made it easy by adding a pinned thread in almost all the sections for easy access and to guide users on how to navigate the board Newbies should learn to see criticism as a way to grow and learn the right way in this forum because most times we may get information mixed up in our head seeing that we are still new and get backlash or spoken to in harsh tone from our seniors here. So I for one try to learn from being criticized and not as a target meant to hurt me, but make me grow.

As a beginner, forum criticism should be taken as positive criticism, and learn from whatever is said. If they will be reacting to anything that is being said, you might not learn anything from the forum. The forum is an open platform and everyone is entitled to their opinion, what we need is to learn from the forum and give our contribution based on our undersdtanding.

Ok, I shared this story only as an example or illustration of my thesis that the reactions of old members can significantly influence the decisions of new members to leave the forum. I didn't want to go into the details of that story so as not to spam this thread and not go offtopic, but I still have to respond to your claim that you think, without knowing the facts of the case, that I did not actively support my friend. Yes, I supported him, and I had a lot of "difficult and tense" discussions with that member that, unfortunately, did not bring results. However, I agree that old members should support new members, even in such situations, and even if they unintentionally break some minor rules, because that's what a community is supposed to do.

While you might be making a point about this it would also be necessary to say that rules like the rule on plagiarism in the forum isn't a rule that originated originally from the forum for any newbie not to know that generally (except they claim to be dummy), in any place of learning, plagiarism is an offence and should be avoided. Because it kills confidence and the whole essence of critical thinking and self assessment of personal growth. Maybe other rules could be simply excused somehow not with some others.

Even the same thing can still happen, there may still be some users among the new users who may not yet know that there are additional benefits to be obtained from the forum. However, suspicion arises when a user talks like an expert or does merit farming at the beginning. Then it is clear that this person is not actually new to the forum, but is probably looking for a source of income with an alternative account. You will find many such accounts who have opened an account to earn from the forum. However, since the forum is giving this additional opportunity, I have no objection to them accepting it. However, the objection is that by taking the additional opportunity, they are not able to contribute quality to the forum, but are increasing the number of posts.

But when new account is behaving like expert or rush merit farming from the beginning, it can increase suspicion that it is an alternative account. It’s not wrong to earn from the forum, but quality contribution is suppose to always come first before quantity of posts.

What I usually recommend to newbies or crypto beginners here in the forum is to actually start their crypto journey, if they are actual newbies, not just some alt accounts here in the forum.
If they are already starting to invest, they could actually use the forum platform to actually help them with their crypto journey, since there are a lot of veteran members here who could easily help them if there is something that they can't understand or something they just want to ask about. I mean, if you're not actually going to do it, or actually starting investing on your own, you're not going to actually experience it, then your not going to actually understand it.
The forum can be a good guide for newbies on their crypto journey, there was no pressure on that in the first place. If they are just actual newbies, they wouldn't care about most of the things in the first place, they probably wouldn't even know that there was merit or ranks.

I think it would have been very convenient if you had shared Lauda's thread Newbies - Read before posting in your opening post, which is required reading, but otherwise I agree with you. And I appreciate you writing this when you already have some experience, and not just after signing up, as is common lately on this board: you know meta and reputation, they may not be the most appropriate sections for a newbie to write, but they are for reading and learning a lot about this place. After reading that thread, newbies or members still need the time to keep being active and reading recent developments, and rules that comes up in daily as situations keep changing reality places demand for new rules which comes up from time to time that is why is necessary to keep reading updates on meta to know what is new in the forum and inclin yourself with it, so learning continues after you already know the basic forum rules. The forum unofficial rules is so involving and time, participation keep you as a member updated with forum recent rules that may not be included in the thread quoted.

Maybe you did, I can't and don't know the story of this. But from how you described it, it sounds like you were just a bystander doing nothing. (I'm not accusing you of it!) I can imagine why the user Daniel91 might not have tried to defend his friend in that regard, possibly because the he wouldn’t want to be affiliated with the account in that regard. I wouldn’t blame anyone for having to distance themselves in that regard but, I also wouldn’t be giggling when they complain about things they didn’t try to change while they watched it unfold. The forum as it is has being a space where several flaws has being discovered and solved in a particular way pending when better means are made available otherwise, speaking up remains the one way to aid a wrongly accused.

They should learn the virtue of patience and DYOR.
well I won't generalize to newcomers, but most of those who come only for money and those who create new accounts for farming and old accounts that rise from the dead are certainly clearly the goal is money, making more profits. New accounts but speak like seniors who already understand this forum, so their language is already very fluent to do anything. Accounts like this are the ones that need to be watched out. Those who are completely new will indeed be confused in this forum without reading the Rules first and some typical questions from newcomers will appear. I went through 10 years on this forum and this keeps repeating itself as new accounts start popping up, only a few accounts survive and become influential people on this forum, and those who are inconsistent will be eliminated on their own.

Forum welcome newbies and does not eliminate any newbie or forum users if they don't break forum rules. Even rule breaks can be given some chances, and not all forum breaks will be immediately banned with a permanent ban. Even there are many complaints about leniency of the forum on bans against posters with plagiarism, AI recent years. This fact means forum users have many chances to be known about their rule breaks, change their posting, improve post quality, learn more about forum rules, and avoid elimination from the forum community. Staff do not want to hand out bans for unconstructive posts but if we feel that you as a user are continually making very poor or unsubstantial posts due to your paid signature the following bans will be issued:
First offence: 7 days Second offence: 14 days Third offence: 30 days Fourth: Permanent ban
Your first ban is your first warning. If you have to be banned for a fourth time it is permanent and you will no longer be allowed to participate on the forum under any accounts. Note: If you are banned on one account then you are not allowed to post under any accounts you own for the duration of your ban. The only exception to this rule is Meta where you can discuss the circumstances of your ban if you wish to do so but anywhere outside of that sub will be considered ban evasion and will get your ban doubled, but it is generally best to just patiently wait out your ban and improve your posts on return and hopefully no further bans will be needed.

Some of these newbies who are used to social media posts might not be familiar with plagiarism. Some social media platforms don't care about plagiarism or the use of artificial intelligence. When they come to such forums that regulate these practices, they might end up becoming victims if they fail to follow the rules. The pathetic case of Former University of Cambridge sociology professor Jason Arday, who was accused of plagiarism, is an example of how this practice could destroy the lives of people. Just obey the rules of an organization, and you would be fine. I have always told newbies in different forums that it is not compulsory to make a contribution if you don't have anything to say or write.

When I newly joined this forum I didn’t know all the rules but the longer I stayed the more familiar those rules were to me.
Thank you very much sir for this advice as a new member I understand that I cannot learn all the rules at once so I will take my time and learn step by step I really appreciate the way you encourage newbies instead of making them feel bad when they make mistakes out of ignorance. I will make sure to read the pinned posts in every board I visit and also spend more time going through the Meta and Reputation boards,i believe asking questions learning from other members and paying attention to corrections will help me understand the forum better. My main goal is to learn, gain knowledge and become a better member of the community thank you again for sharing your experience and guiding those of us who are still learning.
