Privacy doesn't necessarily mean you have to be anonymous completely, you just have to be careful with revealing sensitive information that might make you a target. Most of these scammers are always on the lookout for the slightest information so sharing anything that relates you to owning a decent amount of Bitcoin can be risky and easily make you a target. People need to know that the less information you reveal the more difficult you make it for people to make you a target.
There is absolutely nothing wrong if you go anonymous these days, I mean you look at this family, the wife was pregnant, the 3 years old daughter and the husband were killed, the boy will have to grow up with the story that his parent died because they hold Bitcoin, it will be so difficult to erase the kind of memory. It's not like the child is even a baby that may have no memory of the incident, he is 6 years old already. This looks too comic like a movie, only a person with dark mind could pull this kind of assassination. Using a centralized exchanged, you don't just trust them with your assets, you also share more details about yourself by doing their KYC which I don't think is right for user who prioritize privacy. Some people believe that self custody comes with responsibilities which they are not ready for but having your assets in your custody is the best thing.
I'm not sure you can use any centralized exchange at this point in 2026 without going through kyc, any coin you deposit will be link to you and whatever is going out as a withdrawal will be link back to you, there is nothing you can do to change that privacy unless you want to use that does not controls your keys. Some swap services may not ask for kyc, but they can freeze your coins, some of them are very useless. There is a recent scam allegations against a swap service that refused to return xmr, they claim the coin is under investigation, I don't know when such dex start such services.

People get robbed everyday and when they decide to share their story on the internet you’ll find out these robbers are either close friends or someone who knows their every moves. Keep bitcoin holding private, this is not about centralized or not because the case involving robbery or getting killed can be forced on anyone. Forcefully attacking a person and then steal their coins, most decentralized wallet is not safe when surrounded with bad guys too although the centralized exchange is more worse. The very common thing I see people do concerning bitcoin awareness and it doesn’t suit right, why will anyone want to educate the public about bitcoin? For what reason, seeing people with different personality and then proceeds to teach about bitcoin sounds very dangerous, it’s better to save the stress because nowadays sharing such personal information has repercussion viewing how bitcoin holders are a target.

First of all, I don't understand why a properly confirmed news like this one has to be announced as an "allegation". Just because you don't talk evil about others and you don't do evil to others doesn't mean there are no evil people who do it for a living, they watch while you get too comfortable, every words, every information you shared online, every crypto conversation you had with people in public place, your neighbour etc.. someone might be watching.
Practice OPsec and keep quiet 🤐 🤐 🤐 🤐 about your Bitcoin.
This is one of the reasons why everyone owns a gun in the US. It gets way more atrocious than it is anywhere else in the world. Whatever bullshit plan to rob someone either gets you killed on the spot, or fatally injured. You don't have to look for trouble to get one; that's why most people really need to be careful of every information that spills out of their mouth when they're drunk or too excited (I'm just saying, because speculations suggest it may have been close friends or relations), same with the Internet. Where exactly are we talking about again?? Mexico? OMG No ooo. Even if I were to get paid to stay, I won't spend the next 5 minute over there.

The tricky part is people don't usually leak it in one obvious post, it's death by a thousand small cuts, a comment here, a photo with something identifiable in the background there, and over time it adds up to a profile It is indeed true as, some investors in the space might make conscious effort to avoid going public on their Bitcoin investment or to even have participated in the cryptocurrency space but, it’s the unconscious efforts that catches up to you. You just would never know how you are giving out sensitive details that might add up to paint a huge frame about you. Somehow, the criminal elements that would wish to undo you always had a way of picking these pieces and adding it up to get a bigger picture and consequently, leads to an attack. People just have to be a lot more private and not find much fun in their investment choices when it’s hot to do with Bitcoin and not have to discuss it, ever.

A typical dumb mindset of many people today who don't even understand why Bitcoin choose decentralisation in the first place.
Bitcoin didn't choose decentralisation, it was satoshi's decision of making it natural to that option because of the situation back then when it was made. But I agree about the point of what you're saying here is about being these people who are doing things that will hurt them. The privacy that they need to put importance with should be taken seriously. People are willing to do extra miles of craziness just for them to have a better life and even it means taking someone's life. There's no exception from posting bitcoin holdings online and the same goes with people posting cash. Both possesses danger and simply don't need to do all of those things to take people's attention. Avoid being an attention seeker to avoid attention of evil people.

This is not news. At this rate, who is still being careless with their safety and leaving their coins on exchanges will only have themselves to blame when things go south. People who also go as far as boasting about their holdings and feel that people around would not have a clue about what they are saying are another set of people that should be checked because without being told on the importance of privacy, you don't discuss these sensitive information outside because you'd have no one to blame if you become a victim; not only will you lose your coins, your life could be lost too.
You’re very correct, if someone decides to be careless with their safety and keep all their coins in one exchange or they boast about how much BTC they have they’re indeed taking a serious risk. Privacy in bitcoin is very very important because the moment anyone knows that you have a valuable coins, you may become the target. You may not only lose your money but also your safety and your life will be in danger. So It’s good to protect your coins and stay calm.

I’ve read about this before. It’s not the first case of its kind. There are similar incidents in the past. Basically, the key is not that Bitcoin itself is at fault. But rather that human greed for wealth is the issue. These people might well do the same thing again, even if it doesn't involve Bitcoin. It is, fundamentally, a heinous crime. They aren't just taking assets; they are taking lives.
We can learn a lot from this, including the importance of privacy. When we maintain our privacy, those around us won't know if we have investments or significant assets.
It is indeed far better to appear as though you have nothing. What matters most is personal safety. In addition, we should not be too quick to trust others. Because, crimes often occur not just because of a perpetrator's intent. But because an opportunity arises quickly and easily. Hopefully, we can all do a better job of protecting our privacy. Stay safe, everyone.

When it comes to privacy, it's not something to be taken lightly, as there have been many recent cases where individuals didn't take privacy seriously, ultimately leading to tragic consequences. If you hold a large amount of Bitcoin, it's best to keep it quiet and avoid exposing too much information to others. More people are now aware of Bitcoin's value. Keeping your Bitcoin as private as possible can protect you from criminal and reduce the risk of becoming a target.

For the sake of Bitcoin security, it can certainly be a good idea to keep assets in different wallets or exchanges. But if the holder reveals how many Bitcoins, he has for some reason, it will fall him in danger. Everyone should keep quiet for the safety of Bitcoin and own self. If you hold a large amount of Bitcoin, it's best to keep it quiet and avoid exposing too much information to others.
It is not only the privacy that must be maintained even if there is a large amount of Bitcoin, but I think that no matter how much Bitcoin you have, it should not be revealed to anyone. Because thieves and robbers can target you if they guess that you have Bitcoin, which can keep you in danger.

I think perhaps one point that is overlooked here is that privacy is not the same as anonymity. It's not necessary to go dark to gain greater privacy. The real question is, how many bits of data are required to 'discover' someone's assets, where they are or what they spend? A KYC exchange will be able to tell you who you are, but the blockchain can tell you how much you have traded. The combination of these two present a huge threat to privacy. OPSEC isn't just about being quiet, it's also about minimizing excess connections between your true identity and your Bitcoin transactions.

In a general sense, being cautious isn't something unique to Bitcoin; while it’s true that mentioning Bitcoin carries risks, the same applies to mentioning gold or the fact that you’re carrying cash. You shouldn't confuse the nature of a technological tool like Bitcoin with the inherent risks of the trade; in fact, your tone is careless and alarmist; you could get robbed just for showing off an iPhone, or even a Xiaomi. Ultimately, online privacy allows you to safeguard your crypto, and that concept extends to everything else... such as the implications of using a centralized exchange, and so on.

Here, it was precisely the human factor that played a dangerous role, because anyone who has wealth in cryptocurrency shouldn’t talk about it much, especially in front of strangers, or share their results on social media. After all, happiness loves silence, and especially when you have a family, you should be extremely careful. And here I remember an incident from the time when my friend, back when cryptocurrencies were just beginning to emerge, decided to show off a bit and put a Bitcoin symbol on the rear window of his car. And when the first cases of attacks on bitcoins began, he immediately peeled off that sticker and never again made it public that he loved cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin. He didn’t want to draw attention to it.

Show you have a lot of money. You will get false relationships. False friends. False attention. False smiles. False love. False what ever. You may get robbed. Taken advantage of. A false illusion of people being around you and supporting you.
Mind your own business and every body will leave you alone and see you like any other stranger walking around that they do not care about.
Other than the addictive attention that keeps you wanting more likes, more friends, more smiles, more people 'jealous' of your success et cetera. I do not know how in the World the first option would be what some people really want.

So if I left around 5$ on let's an exchange like MEXC for example, am I in trouble then? I guess to specify this one, those who did KYC on different centralized exchanges are the ones that are potentially in trouble. I have nothing against boasting their holdings AS LONG AS they can afford to have a group of bodyguards that will guard them 24/7, but aside from that, let's always keep silent. The more we hold, the more silent we should be because the more we hold, the more we are in trouble especially if that goes to public. I always say this to the people around me, but ALWAYS, ALWAYS BE HUMBLE, and don't be boastful. That will not benefit you at all. You boast your holdings then what? People will come to you, but that would be more dangerous to you as a person. Just be silent, be vigilant, and... and maybe keep yourself anonymous as much as possible.

They say scammers are often smarter than us, otherwise they would not succeed and make profit from their craft. However, this is definitely happening in real life. They may not be getting hints in a single picture, but with gathered pics and proofs, analyzed datas and information, criminals will find the perfect hint and lead them creating their plan. And if you are not cautious and not highly protective of your investment, or whatever hidden wealth you have, these criminals will succeed on their attack. Maybe they are not that smart and wise, but allowing them due to your careless actions is like giving them a hint to pursue on their plan attack.

A person should not only keep the secret of talking about Bitcoin, but also protect his privacy in all aspects and steps. For example, you should not keep it secret only about your Bitcoin holdings, you should keep it secret in other assets such as mobile phones or if you have cash, you must be worried about it. For this, you can keep enough privacy, just about what you have, that is, Bitcoin holdings, you also have to keep it secret. Because you never deposit Bitcoin in exchanges, even if you keep a thousand secrets, your exchange has the power to control the other party, so it is not safe. You can collect Bitcoin there by looking for a good and secure wallet, so the more privacy you keep and follow the strategy, the more secure your assets will be in the future.

Since the beginning, there have always been victims who have fallen victim to not keeping their Bitcoin private. This is certainly a lesson for us to be careful, because we never know who the evil people in our lives are. Our closest friends could be evil people who are always secretly watching us to steal our Bitcoin.
While BTC is now well-known and many people know about it, it is precisely because it is well-known that we must be even more cautious because everyone now knows that BTC is a valuable asset. Bad people certainly love people who flaunt their wealth and will certainly target those who flaunt it, making them easy targets for robbery. Therefore, those who own BTC must be vigilant and do their best to protect their BTC from being robbed.

Just because you don't talk evil about others and you don't do evil to others doesn't mean there are no evil people who do it for a living, they watch while you get too comfortable, every words, every information you shared online, every crypto conversation you had with people in public place, your neighbour etc.. someone might be watching.
Believe me that there are a lot of dangerous people that only needs to know that you are holding X amount of bitcoin in your possession and they will hunt you all down all in the guise to steal your bitcoin from you. it is one thing to leave your bitcoin in an exchange and flunt around it like you are doing nothing about it. it will just take a matter of time before your carelessness lands you in a big mess. Of every one case that goes public regarding people that are either killed or molested for holding a particular worth of bitcoin, there are more cases that never gets to the public domain that have suffered more harm. Your privacy goes beyond keeping your access keys pretty safe. it include you not putting yourself in a situation where your life and asset can be threatened because if it happens, you can get forced to bring your access key that you kept hidden and you will have no choice than bringing it.

According to the story, the victim of this attack was holding his Bitcoins in a cold wallet. He was doing the right thing by not holding his funds on centralized exchanges and still got murdered along with his family. There isn’t any information on how they knew the person held so much Bitcoin, so it is speculative to say they were boasting or weren’t being careful with their privacy. It could just be a very unfortunate situation where the criminals were tipped off by a close friend or a relative.
Regardless, KYC is becoming more of a liability that endangers too many people and isn’t that effective at preventing crime. There are evil people out there who are going to great lengths to target Bitcoin holders. As always we should be careful to minimize these threats by limiting the information we are exposing, especially if you hold such a significant amount.

Practice OPsec and keep quiet 🤐 🤐 🤐 🤐 about your Bitcoin.
Who has a large amount of Bitcoin needs to have alot of care and distrust the majority of people. The ideal is only share this information with very close relatives, like sons and wife. Exist people of bad character, greedy and frustrated, that cant build their own wealth with merit and work. Prefer try to take from who conquered with effort.
