We should never public our main wallet address, Bitcoin is made for that purpose also being anonymous will help us avoid this horrifying events.
I don’t think you cannot do much anything about your bitcoin address been public because the blockchain is actually public. But even if the blockchain is public you are totally anonymous except you expose yourself and get that bitcoin address or addresses link to you. The rate at which wrench attack is growing is getting alarming such. The most alarming part is where the information are getting leaked, yes we have all blamed it on people exposing themselve due to their actions or telling people about their bitcoin holdings but what about the recent breach of data from even hardware wallets that were supposed to be safe.

Security, privacy and anonymity can support each other but can damage each other too. Like if you have bad practice for security, your sensitive information can be hacked, stolen, then privacy and anonymity might be damaged too.
It's very alarming and with bigger Bitcoin adoption, higher value and price of Bitcoin, many bad people will try to steal bitcoins of the other people. With such increasing risk, knowing how to secure bitcoin well, and avoid wrench attacks is important for Bitcoiners. This is no longer a new thing as Bitcoin is widely known and its worth is spreading like wildfire especially on social media so everyone should be careful or mindful how they present themselves to people out there, putting yourself out there as a Bitcoiner is exposing yourself to scammers, criminals that wouldn't hesitate to take your life if they get close to you. I have never told anyone that I invest in Bitcoin because I don't trust anyone and sometimes even family members are not to be trusted because the heart of man is evil especially when money is involved, I see people showing off their assets but I never get tempted to talk about mine and that's how private I can be.

Those type of incidents are happening a lot these days and that's why anyone who understands privacy always suggest others to not share anything about their Bitcoin to public because they can face hard times even lose their lives if wrong people know about their Bitcoin holdings.
One should never tell anyone publicly about their Bitcoin investments and it's always better to keep your Bitcoin in your personal wallets and not tell anyone about those wallets.
Many innocent people lose their lives even if they don't own any Bitcoin so it's always recommended to keep your investments private and never share such information with anyone especially if you've no security.

The investor should not spread the fact that they have Bitcoin, so I think that security and anonymity are necessary for investing in Bitcoin because nowadays if robbers somehow know that you have Bitcoin, they will try to attack, as is currently the case in Mexico, where a hardware wallet worth only $ 1.5 million was allegedly stolen, perhaps one of the most recorded wrench attacks.
Before this, we noticed that a French couple was attacked after buying the home of a former crypto millionaire because the robbers believed they had around €1 million worth of crypto assets. However the bottom line is that even if everyone is buying small amounts of Bitcoin, security should be a top priority and holdings of Bitcoin should be stored in a hardware wallet.

It’s truly heartbreaking to read this news, i’ve read it over and over again and time and again i’ve asked myself, how is it possible that there are people who are so cruel as to commit such heinous acts.
Safety and peace. These are what i always think about, striving to maintain them by paying attention to every detail so as not to make mistakes that could invite risk, such as bragging about the Bitcoin i own or other achievements, especially on social media. Because in today’s world, many people have lost their minds just to make a quick buck, they don’t care about the risks involved, even if it means killing someone, it’s no big deal to them.
To be honest, up until now i’ve only used exchanges for transactions and to store stablecoins. As for Bitcoin, i’ve never dared to store it there.

It is okay to show that you're supporting Bitcoin in any means that you can. But if it is going to compromise your safety, it's best to remain silent and low profile. Being a private person is much better than that because if someone keeps on looking for ways to brag what they are holding, they're doing the wrong thing. There is no need to be showy at these times when a lot of $5 wrench attacks are happening and even more than that because it involves unaliving the victims. News like this has always been sad whenever a life was taken away for stealing and other serious crimes.

Every data leaks in the hands of centralised entities are a huge risk to your live. Getting killed for your Bitcoin has nothing to do with you been a very good person.
The topic is very clear and direct, but the writeup is addressing too many things that are not even related to the news you shared. "Decentralisation... Centralised entitles", I don't think they're even part of the story. And OP, the first three sentences/statements should have been in quotes (I.e have a quotation mark), because you're referring to a typical statement of those who show less concerns for privacy, or who likes using Cex. Without the quotation, it sounds like you're the one asking the questions. And as for the story, it's quite unfortunate, because it's just another case of close betrayal by someone close to the victim. The news didn't give an indepth detail and I don't want to think too much about what must have possibly gone wrong. Financial privacy is something people have to take seriously especially when it involves assets like Bitcoin that we can easily store.

Why do I have to worry myself using peer to peer for my Bitcoin transaction? People are even storing their Bitcoin on Binance and Coinbase and they always have access to it. I don't need to live a privacy live as a bitcoin holder, bitcoin is more popular today and every knows about it. Why hide? A typical dumb mindset of many people today who don't even understand why Bitcoin choose decentralisation in the first place. Here is why you should be serious with decentralisation and privacy. Satoshi Nakamoto's decision to staying anonymous is a perfect example every crypto enthusiast need to learn from. Because unlike transaction been made on our conventional banking system can be traced to an individual or group of people. When it comes to Bitcoin, and most especially the one stored in a non-custodial wallet, and it's trading is been done on decentralized crypto exchange. It will be very difficult to traced whoever might have been behind such transaction. And that's a more reason why if you are a Bitcoin investor, it is very and highly risky you telling people how much you owe in Bitcoin, because you never know what the plan of the next person sitting next to you will be. And for that reason, it's good we stay security conscious.

Some crypto guys do mistake being private with people that are only into illicit activities and because they're not, there's not need while in reality, it doesn't work like that.
Exposing yourself to people about how big of a person you are when it comes to having a priced digital asset like Bitcoin can easily make you a potential target.
We've said it here before on similar issues that the best and safest practice for a Bitcoiner is to remain private and not let out information about their crypto involvement, it doesn't cost nothing to do that.

I don't need to live a privacy live as a bitcoin holder, bitcoin is more popular today and every knows about it.
Some people take things too easy even in current times when they know such things are becoming a common practice around the world. Whether you have a million dollars in Bitcoin, a billion dollar, or just a few thousand, it is your money and you should keep that information to yourself only. No one needs to know how much money you have or how much money you make, you don't need to show off on social media or any other public platform where you identity is revealed, because by doing that, you are inviting trouble for yourself, and that can end really badly, just like this case here and many others we have heard about in the past. If you are a public figure, an influencer, a trading mentor, or anything that reveals your identity and also gives the impression that you make good money, and then you know that you live in a country or region where this can create problems for you when you go to public places, then you should take this more seriously instead of saying or thinking that nothing is going to happen, because problems don't knock on the door before entering your life, which is why one should always be prepared for it. So I think these incidents happen mostly because of the carelessness of the people.

What a pitiful ending. Money can save people and the same way money can also kill people by making others greedy. The way wrench attack are increasing we need to be always anonymous even from friends and family.
That set of hungry, greedy thieves are lunatics. How can they be so cruel to the extent of wiping off an entire family, including their maid and child, who don’t even know anything about the world? Stealing and torturing are other things, but this killing by this set of criminals is the worst. I read their next court appearance is in a few days' time. I just hope they get a punishment worse than death.

This is just so sad. They killed the husband, his pregnant wife, a 3 year old daughter, and a 21 year old housemaid for just $1.5 million that they thought this musician was holding.
They killed their dog as well. Like, if they really were after money, why would they kill the dog? These people are surely insane. I am not saying the dog is more important, just something they mentioned in the news that they killed because they feared these people are now witnesses, so they left none. The dog is not a witness, or is it? I have seen people who say a dog is a person! Anyway bro, this whole case is really a sad one. Hiding coins, staying indoors, and living a simple life is also not going to give someone a secure life, but an edge they can get. Eventually, someone living close to them can know, and they will be even more furious and doubtful that why you would hide your wealth. Maybe he has a lot.

I remembered a certain time I was asked by my godly friend if I was a cryptocurrency trader and if you guess right, I blatantly denied being a crypto currency trader because in reality this person looked godly, but what I feared the most is the other persons she would talk to and that's one reason why being extra cautious despite charms or smiles is very important. Don't let a woman fool you into divulging your Bitcoin investments nor a man because you never know who your enemies are or who asked them to ask you and you may think it makes you feel important, but in reality, it makes one a target.

Just because you don't talk evil about others and you don't do evil to others doesn't mean there are no evil people who do it for a living, they watch while you get too comfortable, every words, every information you shared online, every crypto conversation you had with people in public place, your neighbour etc.. someone might be watching. Evil eye is everywhere. So never tell your plans in social media. Never say your secrets to anybody. And never showoff everywhere with how much wealth you have in Bitcoin. Because that makes you the center of the eye of many people and you don't know these evil eyes also have conceited and evil hearts. They're willing to do what it takes for them to take that wealth that's been shown off to them.

We have heard this kind of news before...I think during the time this kind of matter were deliberated in the forum, it gives people more insight to keep the coins they're holding in privacy....I think nobody nowadays brags of how many million dollars worth off bitcoin or any other coins is holding due to security purpose....
So many holders of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies doesn't not like to create awareness to people that they're holding a coin due to greediness, calamity and corruption involve nowadays....exposing the worth of your cryptocurrency portfolio is as much as keeping yourself in danger...
People who lacks the knowledge to know the risks that involve in bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, are the ones that will announce to the neighbourhood the value of their crypto portfolio...So, some of us that doesn't know the implications of exposing our wallets and the values of coins we have in the wallet, should learn from this thread....

Wrench attacks are not a new thing, but you can keep quiet as you wish, which doesn't necessarily mean others can't find when you are having a million dollars because there will be signs in your financial spending. So if you are making money and decide to keep it in bitcoin then also spend some money for your security be it a firearm or a personal security guard(s) which depends on how much the portfoio or networth of yours.

They where killed by robbers that had bitcoin?
If that's the case, then it's as a result of giving out too much of information. Although some insider might be involved but it all boils down to the fact that you shouldn't trust anyone for your financial informations...
We can only learn from this, the year's of flexing out cash and achievement are coming to an end the world is getting more dangerous, it was always dangerous but the activities I hear of today is going out of hand

Practice OPsec and keep quiet 🤐 🤐 🤐 🤐 about your Bitcoin.
Such cases mustn’t even be related to centralized exchanges, it can happen if the Bitcoin holders are lousy, if they can’t keep what they have to themselves by going to let people know that they hold Bitcoin, no matter where they hold the Bitcoin, they can face such threats because people don’t like others progressing, and the primary reason why Bitcoin was created is for such reasons so that your investment can be private between your and yourself, but if you have take it upon yourself to publicly let people know you hold Bitcoin, you can face a lot of security threats. However, leaving your investment in the hand of a third party can set you up for such cases also just as you have explained above, that is why it is very vital to take the security of your investment serious, buying in DEXs can be a possible solution then send them out to your wallets; we have a lot of decentralized platforms to send your Bitcoin to your wallets without revealing your privacy.

There is a reason why Bitcoin is said to be a decentralised coin and as number one when privacy is called upon. This is not just for the reason of using it alone, where it calls out the most is for the reason of having it in your possession, and this is why I don't like Bitcoin featured events.
Anyone in possession of Bitcoin should at all time keep him/herself hidden when it comes to publicising your holdings or doings with Bitcoin. As much as hacker are on the internet looking for every possible loopholes, so are there armed robbers looking for properties to vandalise. So, in both ways, privacy is needed.
