Why do I have to worry myself using peer to peer for my Bitcoin transaction? People are even storing their Bitcoin on Binance and Coinbase and they always have access to it. I don't need to live a privacy live as a bitcoin holder, bitcoin is more popular today and every knows about it. Why hide? A typical dumb mindset of many people today who don't even understand why Bitcoin choose decentralisation in the first place. Here is why you should be serious with decentralisation and privacy. https://x.com/Cointelegraph/status/2097335493499265481Every data leaks in the hands of centralised entities are a huge risk to your live. Getting killed for your Bitcoin has nothing to do with you been a very good person. Just because you don't talk evil about others and you don't do evil to others doesn't mean there are no evil people who do it for a living, they watch while you get too comfortable, every words, every information you shared online, every crypto conversation you had with people in public place, your neighbour etc.. someone might be watching.Practice OPsec and keep quiet 🤐 🤐 🤐 🤐 about your Bitcoin.

This is not news. At this rate, who is still being careless with their safety and leaving their coins on exchanges will only have themselves to blame when things go south. People who also go as far as boasting about their holdings and feel that people around would not have a clue about what they are saying are another set of people that should be checked because without being told on the importance of privacy, you don't discuss these sensitive information outside because you'd have no one to blame if you become a victim; not only will you lose your coins, your life could be lost too.

Keep quiet about your bitcoin, keep quiet about your wealth, don't be lousy, don't be the show-up type, but privacy is not truly protected in this time and age of the world. Appearing at a blockchain-related conference wearing a limited-edition Breguet Marie Antoinette wristwatch tells the audience how financially loaded you are, and they suddenly suspect you hold millions in bitcoin/crypto.
Wrench attacks are becoming more famous these days. You can also be quiet about your holdings. Let your tax report sell you off to your targets. Good thing they have caught two suspects linked to the incidents, one of is said to be the victim's business associates. Stay vigilant and stay guided. The world is a cruel place.

There are really evil people who would take lives for money. Many of them probably belong to a criminal organization that finds those people. I would really like some context about what those people have on the victim, because maybe the victim has some popularity or something and has become a target.
It's really important to have self-custody with your coins. It's best to keep no coins on exchanges to ensure you have complete control and proper key management. (Having a hardware wallet would make it easier to protect your coins)

Let get this clear that privacy isn’t about hiding because you’re doing something that is wrong. It is just about not sharing unnecessary information about what you own.
If people know that you are holding a large amount of of bitcoins, a data leak or a careless conversation can make you a target. Therefore you don’t have become completely anonymous but you Have to avoid sharing information than necessary because that is exactly what is leading to all of this kind of attacks.
This is the same that applies to decentralization. Keeping bitcoin on an exchange may be convenient, but you are trusting another party with your holdings. Wch practically goes against what bitcoin was designed to be, bitcoin was designed to give people options to control their own money by their self, so learning proper self custody and keeping quiet about your holding should be a common sense that will save you from attack like this.

Whether Bitcoin or fiat, people are always after wealth. Some chase wealth fairly while others do underhanded tactics and even commiting crimes. For perpetrators and criminals, they don't find any difference between Bitcoin and fiat currency, as long as they got an information about someone having huge amounts of money, they will target such people.
This is the reason why no one should flaunt their wealth and let other people know because not everyone have pure heart. Others are so wicked that they will do everything to rob that person's wealth.

Practice OPsec and keep quiet 🤐 🤐 🤐 🤐 about your Bitcoin.
even good opsec has a blind spot once someone is physically forced to move funds when a transfer happens under duress, it looks completely identical to on-chain to a normal withdrawal. theres no way for a block explorer, an exchange risk system, or anyone watching the chain to tell 'user sent this willingly' apart from 'user sent this with a gun to their head'. thats why the practical mitigation people in the physical-security space actually use isnt something that happens after the fact, its duress PINs/decoy wallets on hardware devices. enter one PIN, see your real balance. enter a different PIN under duress, and it shows a smaller 'sacrificial' balance while the real funds stay hidden under a different derivation path. the attacker gets something, doesnt know theres more, and you keep the rest

This is a very bad news and it is worrying. There was a discussion on the gambling board recently where I saw some users posted that people do not go for KYC because they are trying to evade tax, but this is not just true for everyone. Some people just want privacy is the reason they do not like KYC.
But I do not know what actually happened. Some people can reveal the coins through their talk or on social media. We have seen that happened before.

This news is very worrisome and it is a very big call for all of us concerned. Bitcoin talks about privacy, decentralization, secrecy, all this are very important issues that every Bitcoin holder should take serious but these days, the reverse is always the case.
Gist with friends and trying to show off that you have some bitcoin has become normal, not even the closest of friends can be trusted in this era. They may not have been the culprits here but you don’t know whom they will have casual discussions with about you being a bitcoin holder and they use that to attack you.
Don’t trade your privacy for anything, people are evil and they’ll go to any length to deprive you of your wealth and property even beyond just your bitcoin savings.

The family is somehow popular. One of the victims, who is the father of the house, is a keyboardist and also a co-founder of Mexican rock band Camilo Séptimo, according to reports, and the relationship he has with one of the suspects who was arrested was that he operates real estate business and rental with the said suspect, which such connections could have given the suspect the privilege to know about some of the family private life. This links have more details of the report: The case that shocked Mexico: The investigation into the murders of Jonathan Meléndez and his family

I don’t think this is a new story. It has been happening and I believe I have seen a thread talking about something like this before in this forum. I have seen a news where husband and wife were attacked in their home because they reviewed the amount of bitcoin they are holding.
People should always learn to keep their bitcoin investment private to themselves, once you review that you are holding huge amount of bitcoin, you will be attacked by thieves and your life will be in danger, so to avoid all this keep your bitcoin investment life private.
One of the reasons why people usually open up concerning their bitcoin investment, especially when they’re holding huge amount of bitcoin is so that people will see how rich they are and that’s stupidity.

Bitcoin was created for the purpose to solve transaction problem. It's always not safe if you revealed your weath. So try to always keep it hidden no matter what you do .

first of all, you shouldn't spread the word that you own Bitcoin. the fewer people who know about it, the less likely that such information will fall into the hands of criminals. you should also try not to declare your Bitcoin holdings as required by tax authorities in some countries. this information often becomes public and things can end like in this Mexican story. as we can see, even purchasing a hardware wallet can lead to the idea that a person has Bitcoin and this could cost them their life.

Oh my God. This is so sad, a pregnant woman! I just read the news, and I feel so sad about it because it involves the killing of the wallet owner (Jonathan Meléndez), his pregnant wife, his daughter, and an employee. I believe this should serve as a wake-up call for every Bitcoiners because there's a high chance of more of this happening in the future. Even if we don't care about our lives, don't let us do something that puts the people we cherish into that kind of sad ending. Although the people involved in the killing will be prosecuted, it cant bring back the lives of the killed victims.

This is just so sad. They killed the husband, his pregnant wife, a 3 year old daughter, and a 21 year old housemaid for just $1.5 million that they thought this musician was holding.
He was a musician, and it is possible he received some of the contracts in exchange for BTC, and an evil person came to know about it. The police have captured both culprits. If there were more, they will be caught eventually. But it is so sad to see. They did not have to kill all four of them. They did not have to kill any of them. The business associate was the main planner here, named Melendez Ochoa.
He must be the one who planned everything because he knew his business associate held $1.5 million worth of BTC. He was the one who got into the house using the trust he built. We should not share everything we hold with our business associates. Be careful with everything and be paranoid.

Yeah, this should be your very first priority once you jump into the crypto space. There are countless incidents that are happening to steal crypto users' money. And for that robbers are going to any length for this no matter if they have to kill any person just to get their money or they have to kidnap their loving ones to ask for ransom amount.
And there are many other ways to steal crypto users' money, which are hacking techniques that are updated from time to time. So whatever defensive technology is being developed for safety purposes can be bypassed using new hacking techniques. And as for the concern of holding major funds on any centralized exchange, then it is obviously wrong for countless reasons. Whether it is related to safety concerns or anything else. But you need to keep in mind that "Not your funds, not your keys". DYOR!

What a pitiful ending. Money can save people and the same way money can also kill people by making others greedy. The way wrench attack are increasing we need to be always anonymous even from friends and family. CertiK identified a total of 52 wrench attacks worldwide in the first half of 2026, up 33.3% from 39 incidents during the same period in 2025. We should never public our main wallet address, Bitcoin is made for that purpose also being anonymous will help us avoid this horrifying events.

Sometimes it is not even the people in the public space, your neighbors or people randomly outsider you should be careful of but you should also be careful of the people you call friends and even family members because they could be as dangerous as the people outside and can have no sense of family bonding that will stop them from recognizing that stealing from their own family member is a terrible thing to do even more terrible than stealing itself. You do not need to trust someone just because they are your family member, be it extended or your immediate family. You need to make sure people earn the trust you give to them.

To avoid all this kind of attack, someone have to fully avoid telling people about their achievements, whether they are holding Bitcoin or even fiat currency. I have seen many different news before about how people were attacked, killed, or kidnapped because of the Bitcoin or people heard they were holding in their wallets or money they have in their bank accounts. We should know the kind of person we are going to share our information with because some people can be very evil. That is one of the main reasons we should avoid holding Bitcoin on exchanges, because we don't know if there is an evil person among those working at the exchange who may leak our information to criminals. Exchanges always have access to our important information, so we should be very careful.
Giving out our information is not always a good idea. This also just made me remind story about a neighbor, a woman who went to a bank to open an account. Immediately after opening the account, she deposited a reasonable amount of money into it. But within the next few days, someone started contacting and disturbing her. They claimed that they needed to complete some information and requested her personal account details. Unfortunately, when the woman gave them the information, that was how she got scammed. When she went to the bank to complained they told her that the person who contacted her were scammer. But the question the woman asked them was,if her information had not been given out to the scammers, how did they know that she had just opened an account and deposited that amount of money only a few days earlier? She had not informed anyone about opening the account or about the money she had saved in it.
