It is true that about $351 million worth of crypto was stolen from the Bitget exchange which caused the exchange to stop users from withdrawing their bitcoins or other cryptocurrencies and I mentioned that the exchange will announce their withdrawal plans on September 26th.

It's quite unfortunate that withdrawal have not resumed yet on bitget, and for that reason we can predict the extent of the damage done by this hackers and only can trust that everything returns back to normal with the exchange.

My expectation was that by now everything would be ok with the exchange, but now that withdrawals have not resumed on the exchange, this speaks volumes about what we are expecting.

Since the hack happens across almost five chains in the exchange unlike that of Bybit that only happen in Etherum chain, they will have to sort things out first before they officially allow withdrawals, but from all indications, uses funds are safe, but that doesn’t warrant us to keep saving money with exchange because if you have money there from the time it got hacked, you will be stranded.

But I heated that hopefully, withdrawals will resume on Monday for Bitcoin and other chains will resume from Wednesday’s including EVM chains. What good is it if they know the group behind the hack but cannot find them and recover all the stolen funds? Most of these scammers know the blockchain too well not to leave traces. In the past few hacks that happened, after all the investigations, how many stolen Bitcoins were recovered?

Recovering the stolen funds is not promising, if the exchange receives another threat, it will be forced to close down.

This is honestly scary because it shows that even established exchanges and wallets are not completely immune to attacks. Losing over $100M in a single day is huge, and I can only imagine the panic of users who had their funds there. Hopefully Bitget and the relevant security teams can identify the attackers and recover as much of the stolen funds as possible.

There is nothing out there that’s completely immune to hacking, but they can be hacked. Yesterday, I get this update about the Bitget hack and the restrictions for withdrawal, and I get small 11$ inside, so today I try to withdraw am but I receive this message

I also try to use different networks, but I get the same message. Well, na small $11; I just dey feel for those wey get millions and some huge amount of money for inside the exchange.

People wey no keep assets for the Bitget exchange no get nothing to worry about because their money no loss, as them understand the saying say not your key, not your coin. The reason why that small $11 dey there sef na because of one easy survey I do for person few days ago.
Me I be one of those people wey dey use Bitcoin exchange coins most of the time, but I never for once keep huge assets for the exchange any day because I also understand say I no get any control over am, and at any moment my asset for loss.
The only thing I dey use Bitcoin do na to exchange coin through P2P trade (either buying or selling nothing else). I just hope say everything later dey alright with the platform.

To me, I'm not even concerned if whether the withdrawals will come back tomorrow or in couple of days. It's about how fast at which your access to your own money will be cut off if it's on an exchange. While you might think you won't have any problem with the exchange today, but it's these type incidents that can turn situation around one day.

For this reason, I believe it's best to keep just what you require for trading on an exchange, and not as your personal wallet.

That's a good news, i just like that customers funds wasn't affected and everyone would be able to withdraw their assets soon, if it was the other way round it would've ruined the reputation of the casino. Everyone using Bitget shouldn't think twice before withdrawing their asset to a non-custodial wallet.

It’s indeed unfortunate but, it goes both sides you know. The exchange funds might be the only thing to have being taken but it sure did result in the restriction of withdrawals from the exchange and that could be a good thing. It would be outrightly wrong to not know who is making the withdrawals to just bring the whole thing back up. Ascertaining the extent of the damage is part of the job and that’s what they really should be about.
