For me, payment will be one of the biggest use cases for BTC beyond just holding it. If bitcoin can become more easier and less expensive to use for our everyday transactions, most especially across borders, it will make more  sense. The thought of using your BTC without giving up custody is also interesting.

It’s always being the original intention for the currency and until it reverts back to be a utility coin as intended, we can’t confidently say that Bitcoin has gone mainstream or attained global adoption.

A conflicting thought in having though,
Is Bitcoin ever hyped?

I get the part where people speculated the price of one Bitcoin to range into $millions even while we are just above $126k for ATH and the price today still struggles around $83k but then, it’s not really hyped.

What happens is, people tend to rush in when the bull seasons is on for short profit making and get out when the market goes bearish and as much as this isn’t what we intend to be seeing, it also helps in its publicity but, might project a negative connotation when these individuals end up downplayed by market movements.

The interesting part is watching Bitcoin move from digital gold to infrastructure people can actually build on.

Native BTC lending, staking, payments, DeFi the next phase is about putting the Bitcoin people already hold to work without giving up custody.

What do you think will be the biggest use case for BTC beyond simply holding it?

The hype surrounding bitcoin is what most people will rather treat as one speculative asset due to its unpredictable nature and potential. But then over the years bitcoin has grown into a more mainstream crypto asset and has shown that it does indeed have the ability to be worth the hype. A day to day real world use for payment, transactions will be the biggest use case of bitcoin and for this to be achievable then a mass adoption will have to take place over mere hyping and speculations because there are those who are still skeptical about bitcoin.

I believe payments & settlement to be more practical use cases than attempting to generate yield from BTC. Smaller transactions can be much more usable with lightening and other second layer solutions. Whilst maintaining the base layer to be robust in security. Lending can also be helpful. But the custody and counterparty risks must be taken into account. Adoption is the first step to success for me. And people can use Bitcoin for that purpose because it does solve a problem and not just to see its price go up. That's a more substantial adoption than hype, if Bitcoin is going to deliver the capability to transfer value across the world and to power regular payments via an extra layer.

At the moment, instead of looking at Bitcoin as a means of transaction, it is the most profitable decision to see it as a means of holding. Because the price of Bitcoin has not yet risen much, the price of Bitcoin is very low, so if we can hold it now in the long term, then we can definitely expect to be very profitable in the future. Bitcoin has now transformed into an asset, its value is low, so if we can buy it before the price increases in the future, then we will leave a good asset for our children in the future, it will definitely be a better asset than gold.

Currently, one of the biggest reasons not to transact with Bitcoin is the volatility of Bitcoin. So everyone is looking at Bitcoin as a holding asset right now. Transactions through Bitcoin are definitely a good decision, but instead of transactions, holding it at the moment is the best and most profitable

The hype around Bitcoin is pretty much gone, but maybe it will return for a while, when a new bull run and FOMO phase occurs. Don't get too hyped about the BTC lending, staking and DeFi part. BTC lending was a thing years ago and it never grew to a point where the big corporations and banks would see it as competition. DeFi is just a buzzword. The biggest use case of BTC is simply not relying on a third party to have control over your assets.

Over the year a lot of people and even companies have started adopting the use of bitcoin for payment purposes. I've seen some gambling companies use bitcoin on their platforms for deposit and even withdrawals. This shows the rate at which bitcoin is now being adopted because it allows for higher deposit amounts and even withdrawals. At this rate, bitcoin might become more stable as time goes by and will encourage more individuals or companies to see the importance or advantages of this initiative.

I think payments and BTC-backed financial services have the strongest potential beyond simply holding.

Staking or yield can put idle BTC to work, with Layer2s like Babylon Labs unlocking more earning opportunities through this avenue while maintaining Bitcoin’s security, but the downside of the overall approach lies in the introduction of extra protocols, smart contracts, or counterparty risks, and it isn’t native to Bitcoin itself.

I believe that a balance is being arrived at, though, where BTC is made more useful while its core strengths of self-custody, security, and permissionless access are preserved.

Bitcoin adoption should not be something that supposed to be forced and it is when they make there own choices that it makes sense to them because majority will want to even make some findings before they conclude they want to invest into Bitcoin and when bull run starts people become more interested because they feel like they don't want to miss out on the opportunity, and just that they are doing the right thing at the wrong time and there periods that what ever you want to do concerning bitcoin aside trading is more suitable during a particular time except the person wants to trade because trading is more of a frequent activity so making use of the time properly pays a lot.

For me I wouldn't write these things off completely. I believe the space is still developing, and if new use cases can give BTC more utility without bringing back the same thirdparty risks, then they are worth watching.

Self custody is still the main point and if I have to give up control of my BTC just to make it work, then I have to ask whether the extra yield is worth the risk.

I've lost some money in Bitcoin DeFi in the past, they just stopped working one day and I couldn't reach the team, I was devastated but I got over it later, the space is definitely far from perfect and yes its still developing, but I think Bitcoin is better the way it is, if anyone want to make money staking Bitcoin it's better to do it on ETH or other strong alternative, because Bitcoin isn't made to be a proof of stake coin, the only thing next to Bitcoin in terms of strong and reliable is ETH and you can stake it for yield. Bitcoin obviously can't do it all.

The real shift happens when BTC stops being just an asset you hold and becomes an asset you can use. I’m especially interested in what non-custodial lending and DeFi could look like at scale.

While that can be a big help for someone who's in need and doesn't want to sell the bitcoins they're holding. I've already discouraged myself by trying into those lending/defis. Because they're very hot in the eyes of hackers and I don't want to be left hanging in it when I've got funds there and the attackers come. Just saying but you do you and if it's an interesting thing that you're eyeing for, I'm just telling the risk.

What is the point however?  Look at the Ethereum Bitcoin based pair, no matter how much yield you earn Bitcoin still destroys all of that in a longer run and all you had to do is purchase and wait.  Yield means no thing no matter how high if Bitcoin out does that by simply existing.

Perhaps this exchanger won't be required if Bitcoin adoption rises. After that, individuals will transact Bitcoin directly with one another. Additionally, I believe that the goal of KYC for exchanges is related to security concerns; they can also use this to obtain personal data. Without Direct KYC, security issues might be managed. However, if someone purposefully cheats during a peer-to-peer transaction, the exchange may be able to lock that person's account or transfer the funds to another wallet address. If the cheater's personal information is obtained, the victim may be able to take legal action against them.

However, I haven't come across any instances where someone has received information from an exchange. However, it is not unfeasible. Perhaps the exchange can reveal who cheated if someone asks for assistance through the police. However, it is true that using exchanges precludes total decentralization. because an organization is receiving wallet and personal information.

One aspect of this whole adoption thing that a lot of people often overlook is that, true adoption doesn’t have to mean that everyone is actually using Bitcoin. Even the usage of a smaller group who genuinely value Bitcoin’s potential and properties can be way more meaningful than a larger community who were actually forced to use it but lack the understanding of what they are actually using. The most important thing here is making people really understand what the asset is about and then give them the opportunity to choose for themselves because true adoption requires personal conviction.

Bitcoin as a pair of all existing altcoins is one step ahead compared to Altcoins whose reliability is said to be equivalent to Bitcoin,
even though they have moved to Centralization while Bitcoin still remains fully Decentralized without anyone fully regulating, everything is regulated by the community.

If it is related to ETH and about the issue of yields, it cannot be said to be more advanced and exceeds Bitcoin, because ETH gets a yield value due to the price movements of Bitcoin that occur.
When Bitcoin is really bad and falls below ATH, then any altcoin including ETH as the top Altcoin will drop and the value of the yield given will also decrease.

People are always chasing yields, but they forget the actual yield provided by Bitcoin is a higher profit if they continue to buy it for the long term,
because this has been proven in the 10 years I have been in the crypto ecosystem I have seen real returns that Bitcoin provides with ATH that I never even thought about.

What do you think will be the biggest use case for BTC beyond simply holding it?

It will become a generally accepted global assets that not just individuals will have in their possessions, but will be in the possession of world leaders/countries. that which is already playing as a means in the stability of economic growth. There will be massive adoption over the forth coming years and will give birth to new ideas/technology.

Funnily enough I tried to search up how much Ethereum staking yield and it is 2.5%, what's even the point of that.

You can get that gain in one day by investing in Bitcoin at the right time.

$10,000 in ETH only yield $250 that's a joke against Bitcoin's capital gain.

Like how people prefer non dividend stock because earning can refuel growth and expansion which in turn give better capital gain, we should prefer Bitcoin capital gain than the tiny 2.5% yield from ETH pooled staking.

Aim for the growth, not for measly 2.5% yield that couldn't even pay for our gas.

What do you think will be the biggest use case for BTC beyond simply holding it?
What I find really interesting about Bitcoin right now is that we may be moving beyond the idea of BTC being something you simply buy and hold. Projects like Babylon and Core are exploring ways to make native BTC more productive through staking and other applications, while still allowing users to keep custody of their coins.

The bigger opportunity in my view, is using your BTC as collateral. Imagine being able to put your Bitcoin to work in lending or DeFi without having to hand it over to a centralised platform. That opens new ways to borrow, create stablecoins, and move liquidity while keeping BTC under your control. It’s still early, there are plenty of technical and security challenges to solve, but if these systems fuly mature, Bitcoin could become much more than a store of value. It could become an important piece of the broader decentralised financial system without challenging it's core purpose and value, but helps more.

Funnily enough I tried to search up how much Ethereum staking yield and it is 2.5%, what's even the point of that.

You can get that gain in one day by investing in Bitcoin at the right time.

$10,000 in ETH only yield $250 that's a joke against Bitcoin's capital gain.
Any significantly higher number than that would make things a lot worse than they already are for Ethereum.  There are many 'projects' with a high yield and I can not remember seeing ONE that had any success in keeping their rank high on Coin Market Cap or what ever ranking website you like.
