In my country Nigeria alot people prefer buying secondhand products because they are certain Nigerians that imports fake products that doesn't last for long time and sell them in a huge amounts of money. Some are trying not to involve themselves of buying fake products. Example electronic devices.
Apart from that their are some electronics that the averages people wont be able to afford. In countries that the minimum wage is very low people can only afford a secondhand devices. If people's income is very high and can afford a brand new they will go for and the original one no matter how fakes are common in the market. The purchasing of a secondhand products is far beyond fake in the market but it has to do more with financial ability because people would always want a brand new but they have no option than to go for the price tag they can afford comfortably.

People in different places usually choose secondhand products instead of new ones. Tailoring it down to vehicle, between secondhand vehicles and new vehicles which one is mostly purchased yearly? Saving some money upfront can be a reason but aside that, what is the actually reason or financial logic, depreciation math or what?
In my country, many people still prefer secondhand purchases. Be it vehicles, clothes, bags, shoes, or even houses. In fact, the data continues to increase year after year. The percentage of secondhand vehicle purchases in my country continues to increase over time. Demand also continues to rise. I personally chose to buy a secondhand vehicle at that time. If I had enough money, I would have preferred a new one. But at that time, my funds were only enough for a secondhand purchase. I'm sure many people felt the same way, so they preferred a secondhand vehicle. However, everything has its pros and cons.

Really I have seen such weird questions on this board. How can we answer directly why people buy second hand products and the OP actually took out the popular reason why people buy second hand products which is financial reasons now the OP wants us to manufacture other reasons why people make that decisions.
I honestly think a question has been asked by the OP and also in the same body of the post that question has been answered by the OP.
Indeed, the reason people buy used goods is already quite clear: it makes economic sense and is far cheaper than buying new. It is all very straightforward. If the thread starter wants to know another reason, I can name one. For instance, it might be a unique item that is no longer in production—like someone dreaming of a car that was discontinued decades ago.

Consumers may prefer secondhand items for many reasons, but the main reason among them is saving money (a lack of money to buy new ones). I think this is so obvious that there’s no need to even think about it.

Not every country uses second hand products, these second hand products are being shifted from these developed countries, and shifted to the underdeveloped countries where they need them. The fact is that, is not as if these second hand products are bad, but the countries that produces those products have standard of usage, and they don't allow them to get spoilt before they discard them, so they are moved to other countries in cheap price where it is highly needed. For instance is a country is industrialized, and they have massive production of a certain material in affordable price, no one will be interested of buying used product, but anything you don't produce, and has an exobitant price, you will likely go for the second hand product because you think is cheaper to afford.

There is nothing on earth why anyone would make anyone to prefered a second hand products over a new one. It's either the economy is damage and people are earning less and they don't have means to buy the new one or it's the usual excuses of not buying new ones because they are fake but that still brings us back to the same cause which is bad economy. It's the only reason why people prefer to buy such and that is because they don't have choice. If second hand products are good, Chinese will not ship them out of their countries and move them to other countries. The top western countries literally ban second products been import to their countries. That tells you the effect it will have on their economy but the developing countries and under developing countries are the ones that run after this products because they are cheap and not bad for use.

Second hand products are mostly used in undeveloped countries, and the reason why people chooses to use second hand products is because they are told that second hand products are stronger than new products. But for me I don't fall for that I always prefer buying a new product, or if I'm repairing anything like TV and there's need for something to be replace in the TV in order for it to function properly, I always asked for a new product to be used. I hate second hand product with passion because I don't know the reason behind why the first user sold it in the first place.

Yes, many people always have this mindset, and I think it's the poor people who are more interested in these second-hand things. Although I think it's just a matter of decision, because there are people who are not even wealthy enough, yet they still don't want anything second-hand at all, because they know that in less than no time it will start giving them issues. Honestly, there is nothing better than buying new stuff for yourself, no matter what account you buy it for, because you will definitely have peace of mind for a very long time without any problems. Even though there is a lot of imitations in the market right now, we can never compare second-hand and brand new stuff.

From my observation, second-hand products from good producers are stronger and more durable.
There is no way second-hand products are stronger and more durable than brand new ones. Products have a year warranty for a reason. People purchase secondhand products for the price not durability. It is the same reason why people buy dupes instead of designer perfumes or buy knock-offs instead of designer clothes. I don't really like making comparisons, but this all depends on which product is being bought as fairly-used, how long it has been in use, the present physical and mechanical condition (assuming it's a car) and overall, its production company. You can't make me believe that a Chinese car produced in 2025, even though brand new is better than a German-made car from 5 years ago. Let's say a Porsche or BMW. Advanced features can be at the top of your priorities, but for super performance and durability, the former hasn't been tested to that limit yet. One of the reasons why people prefer second hand products is simply for the price difference. Other reasons might be just some boring car guy like hubby who loves to build a collection of grade ones' from the early 2000s.

Well it's simple there are some certain stuff that aren't really that too different from the new ones. You just need the right amount of maintenance and it would probably look new, so instead of spending extra cash on something new, then fairly used often comes in handy. And besides it's all about convenience, and as long as the car looks good, sounds well, and does not develop any issues frequently then it's probably worth it. Though folks often buy fairly used products because they can't really afford new ones, but if you have the money to there is nothing stopping you. It's all about financial differences that vary from individual to individual. That said there are some stuff I wouldn't consider buying fairly used as a crypto enthusiast, which are gadgets like phones, laptops, and so on just to be safe and to ensure maximum security because you don't know if the phone has been hacked. But apart from that there is certainly nothing bad in purchasing fairly used products you just have to go for it in a more precise way that's all........
If a used product looks good that doesn't mean it is in good condition. Sometimes used car looks perfectly fine from outside but it has some hidden flaws it might have hidden problems that cost more money to repair than the money that they have saved by buying the second hand car. Sometimes maintenance cannot restore the product to the original condition. Wear and tear with the passage of time reduces the performance, reliability and also the lifespan of a product. Sometimes it is a long term investment to buy a product that is new, has warranty and also has low maintenance and repair costs. Second hand appliances sometimes have electrical faults that cannot be resolved, so the decision is not dependent on the appearance but it is also dependent on product's condition, lifespan and also the total cost that is going to be after its maintenance and repair.

Buying used things is not just about saving money. There are many other things that we often notice, and sometimes we don't. The same thing that has become unnecessary for me may be very valuable to another person.
Suppose, a person bought a new big car a few days ago. Now the small car he had before is no longer needed. So he sold it. On the other hand, a small businessman is buying that old car at a low price and using it to transport his business goods. This not only saved him the big expense of buying a new car, but also made business easier. Here, what was unnecessary for one person became a source of income for another.
Not only cars, such incidents are seen in many other cases. Someone sells the previous one after buying a new laptop. However, a student may be able to start his studies or online learning with that old laptop.
So for me, whether it is new or old, what is more important is how much the thing is useful to me and whether it is within my capabilities or not. Because even if something is a waste to someone, it may be very necessary in someone else's life.

Buying second hand items are not advisable because we don't know how the previous owner used these items before deciding to sell them. The most common reason why people sell second hand items is if the thing develops faults on a regular basis and if the persons are in urgent need of money. In machines, buying second hand machines are bad. Most people don't do maintenance on their machines. Buying those machines will make us spend more when they start developing issues.

This depends on the perception of each, new or old items that all have their respective purposes. Not a few people buy used goods because they have investment value, scarcity and so on, and there are many people who buy used vehicles because they are looking for cheaper prices without having to force the price of new goods, and indeed the price of used goods for public vehicles usually the price drops more, especially if we can judge that used goods are still worth it to buy and under value for the used market price, this is the economic and very profitable side.

I don't think it's only the poor people who are more interested in second hand products because even rich people prioritize second hand car spare parts when they are fixing their car, and the funny thing about second hand products is that they are more costly than brand new products that have not be used by anyone. Buying brand a new product is the best since it can stay for years before it will start developing fault you can easily detect what the problem is.

Apart from the money issue, some people buy secondhand items because they're into antiques or collecting, like the member above mentioned Tbh, aside from those two reasons, I can't think of many other convincing reasons to buy used rather than new. I did some digging and found that some people also choose secondhand item for environmental reason . Since it helps reduce waste and saves the resources to make new products. Sounds reasonable, but I am not sure if it is really a major motivation for them . What do you think?

Can you name one country where people don't use second hand products? Because i can't think of even one. I've heard that it's a growing "industry" even in China where nearly all production went. No matter how developed your country is, income caps will exist and not everyone can afford to buy new stuff. Especially when it's quality. Second hand shops give everyone an access to stuff they couldn't afford to buy otherwise.

We have fairly used products so I don't see anything wrong if a person decide to go for this products, maybe with time things might get more better for them and then they can start using new products. And one thing we must know is that; for the fact that a product is second hand does not mean that they are fake. Because some people feel that all second hand products is fake but that's not true some second hand products last more than that of the new products, I'm speaking from experience and I'm sure that many have also experienced that. But it is good to buy new products if there's enough money.

Getting a second product doesn't necessarily mean one does not have the money to purchase a brand new one but because of inflation rate the fact that prices of things keeps increasing on a daily and because of that some people choose to live within their income range by buying things of cheaper rate as far as you have checked for the functioning and durability of the product and it's in perfect condition, they will buy it so that can be able to save money even after buying a product.

If someone is financially well okay, I don't think they will like to go for used products because there is nothing better about a secondhand product than a new one. It is a new product that becomes secondhand after being used by someone. If inflation is what leads someone to purchase a secondhand product, that means the person is not financially comfortable enough. As for me, the main reasons that lead many people to go for secondhand products are that they cannot afford new ones and, secondly, competition, especially when it comes to cars or motorcycles. Some people want to show off and prove that they are also financially well okay. That is why they decide to use the money they could have spent on buying a new, lower level car to purchase a secondhand car of a higher level.I have seen many people like that. The money they spend on purchasing a secondhand car is sometimes more than enough to buy a brand-new car.

The reason is that, As human we are all different in everything, in terms of structure, habits, and most importantly financial status. Some people don't have the ability or the resources to purchase a brand new product. But some people prefer a secondhand product to preserve or save resources. Some people usually thinks that the reason why the owner wants to sell that particular product is because it is not functioning well anymore, some cases may be, but is not always as we think. Some people might choose to sell something because they don't need it anymore, or maybe they are in need of money for emergency purposes. Some secondhand products even have good quality than brand new (first grade).
