What is wrong with having multiple streams of income, everyone wants to earn from different means. Finding what works for you at same time shows you're good at the job so there's no need to be in a confused state.
You can achieve all at a time, if owning a business is a personal choice then work towards the goal, no need to raise any question or thinking the idea of deviating to another job doesn't act right, go for whatever pay the bills, The idea of being confused on what to do is the problem, switching career is normal.

I don't think you are an idiot and you are not making any foolish decisions honestly, you have two wonderful opportunities ahead of you and it's understandable to be confused and not want to make decisions that will affect you in the long run. You just graduated and you have interest in tech and you have been offered a job with a salary that's okay .
My advice is that you choose objectively, if the IT job offers you a very good salary and also gives you room to grow and do other things, you can pursue it and still do your business and other things you want to do. Because it's not what you studied, it shouldn't make you fear to pursue what you have interest in. So it's understandable to be confused now, but check the two options and see the one you can grow from now.
It is normal for people to be uncertain about the situation ahead of them; I ask these types of questions to my friends and family all the time. It is not really something that bothers me because he is doing something very good, and I think he is right. And it's okay to ask for advice even if you are right, because hearing "yes, what you are doing is good" should help people; that is not really a bad situation and could be done very well. Maybe it would just give them hope and they could do it better.

If I understand correctly, you graduated from the textile industry, but your heart is drawn to coding? So what's the point? Of course, save up for a financial cushion and quit the field you don't enjoy. I know plenty of excellent programmers who abandoned their careers in jobs they hated to pursue IT development. The key is to be a truly strong developer. It's just that companies nowadays value a candidate's opinion less than their ability to create well-structured code that's clean and easy to read.
And of course, don't forget that all companies now employ Junior AI developers. You must be confident in your vibecoding skills, otherwise recruiters won't even bother talking to you.

OK. so am I.
Let me get this straight, are we talking about carriers or career?? Haven't read through the whole thread but how did anyone not notice that.

Both of your skill sets could even enable you to run a business of your own. If I were in your shoes, I would take the IT job as my primary occupation (assuming it offers a regular salary) and, after a few months, see if I could manage my schedule to launch a textile business as a side venture.
Exactly! We're talking about the trajectory of the world's economy here and no knowledge should be a waste. Utilize it in whatever ways can fetch you more money, buy assets and store them for your retirement age. Money made from a good source is never too much!
Quote
The priority is to secure a more stable income, which is generally easier to achieve as an employee. This also offers a psychological advantage: you will gain a better understanding of how you should treat your own future employees
We can go on and on...

This is one area where lots of scholars fail to take advantage of, during and after their time o schooling, many people graduate from school and tend to depend solely on their area of specialty thereby reducing their chances of attracting opportunities in other areas where they could have been useful if only they were technically inclined in those areas.
Self development and continuous learning can be useful along the line especially in this age where the job market is very much demanding and may require someone to work beyond their area of expertise.
Nowadays, it is not enough to be proficient in a particular subject, multiple skills are required to progress in your career. And changing careers does not mean neglecting your previous education, rather it helps you progress in your career by acquiring new skills. Sometimes our career goals can change without us knowing it, so learning something new will be a big advantage when entering a new job later. Therefore, having a mindset of learning something new is very important. However, before changing careers, it is necessary to understand your qualifications and interests, what kind of needs people have in the new field and whether you can do it well. Having multiple skills in yourself is an advantage in all fields. Those who have multiple skills are ahead in the workplace.

If I were to be in your position, I will seriously consider taking the developer job simply because you enjoy the work and also because the offer is good. Your experience in textile and business dream does not have to disappear because you have chosen to work in tech for now.
Having a degree is a key to open doors not something that limits you to where and what you can go or do. You can still build something in textile later with more experience and financially stable. So this is not a decision between what you have studied and what you don’t know anything about.

Am hundred percent with you on this because day by day the world is changing, and depending on just one skill can limit your opportunities in some kind of situations so having additional skills might give you more options and makes it easier to adapt when things don’t go as planned not necessary a skill but at least another source of income. To me I just have this believe that having another source of income or learning another skill should not make us lose focus on becoming good at what we studied or what we do best, I just have this belief that what every world best your you is good to go but at a time back up plan is very necessary.

In this economy, choose a job where you can earn the most, not what you love the most, because at the end of the day, higher salary will give more financial means. Thinking of burnout because you are not that happy with your job? Then think you won't also be that happy if your salary is lower. Also, when it comes to business, you can always manage it behind the scenes. That way, you can have 2 sources of income, which are even better if your goal is to have more money, which I think the majority of people do like.

You know, sometimes life doesn't always give you what you want. But regardless, it's still better you go and strive for what you love, your passion, what you feel you can run with for a long period of time.
Yeah, because there's a lot of time ahead of you, or ahead of a man's life, A lot of time after the choice of his career path. So what can only make you keep up and live the rest of life really, really happy is when you are actually doing what you love. So my advice is just stick with what you love, And you see yourself grow.

As OP said that he is enthusiastic about tech and that means despite being a textile graduate, he is still interested in tech. There is no better thing in life to get a job in your area of interest. If I was in place of OP then I will surly accept the offer of full-stack developer because I was not only getting good salary but because I have interest in that domain area also. The openness of tech allows everyone to join in and there are people who don't have any professional degree in tech but they are getting good salary because they have learned the necessary skills that are in demand these days.

Do not abandon the dream you have of starting a business instead, use your current IT job to gain experience and accumulate capital. In the future, you can leverage your background in textiles alongside your IT skills to launch a venture in the textile-tech or e-commerce space. You are not on the wrong path your life currently reflects a wonderful alignment of your passion present opportunities and future goals. So, move forward with confidence!

OP you haven't make up your mind, and it's not bad but make sure you take your time, the biggest mistake I made in my life is asking people this same question that you are asking right now, you will likely be misleaded.

It's a sign of uncertainty in life when you are asking people this type of question, it's about your life and people's opinion shouldn't mean anything to you, I've never been able to do something for myself asking people about myself.

It's a doubt and fear, do what you feel is best for you, and stop asking for people's opinion about your own life to avoid misleading by others dream and ideas, even if you fail it's your choice not others.

I actually started thinking about how this guy might somehow combine these professions in the future, creating a stunning idea for the entire world. The thing is, when someone is skilled in two different fields at once, they can create incredible inventions that straddle the boundaries of both professions.
For example, if an engineer is also well-versed in medicine, they can easily come up with new prosthetics based on mechanics. I know examples of people who created successful companies based on the intersection of these two fields. If someone has an engineering mind, they'll always come up with something interesting.

Actually switching to tech it practical and smart, it not stupid at all. Degree is not a lifetime sentence to an industry, degree is just a foundation. Having to pivot to a full stack developer role actually gives you higher income. It a remote flexibility and also a valuable problem solving skills.

If ones dream us to launch a textile business, having to earn a tech salary is really one of the best place to built up a startup capital without going into any debt. You shouldn’t actually take the offer and gain experience and funds your dreams later.

We all have passion of becoming something in our young life. I believe many people here at some point wanted to be medical doctors, lawyer, army because those are the things we see on TV. Some of us wanted to work in NASA one day and travel to space  but your growth is limited to what is around you and the earlier you do what will help you, the better. Some people study law in school and today they are into content creating because that is what put food on their table.

I guess OP is switching because of how he understands Bitcoin through Tech and he understands and enjoys it more than his textile course. Although, I feel if he is earning well and doing better with the course, he wouldn't have want to switch to tech. By the way, Tech is a very wide job with many opportunities. If that is what put food on the table, why not go for it.

I believe that it is not a failure to change careers. Particularly when someone has practical experience working in another career already. A degree gives us knowledge but shouldn't be the end of our career. The real question is whether or not we can do so with our skills to add value and build a sustainable future. But sometimes. learning in areas outside our original profession can actually be a benefit to our future businesses. It's not whether we're leaving school behind. It's whether we're moving closer to our goals.

A good steward understands the risk of leaving their job that pays good to start a business. For me it is best to start the business or career while maintaining the job and quite when they have established their customer base and built enough capacity that will require their physical presence. Running a business requires a lot of patience and grooming period. No business starts paying huge from the start everything is built slow and steady until huge success is attained.

If I switch carriers now, would that make me an idiot? And am I being brain dead?

Switching careers absolutely wont make you look idiot. While some people complain that AI are going to replace them at work, you did right move by switching one job or career to another because you see there opportunity. It does not even matter if other career would bring you same money. Compared with other employees, you would have 2 skills/more experience then they. If you already got an offer from company that works in other field, isnt it great? Because you are not yet a skilled, but already got invited to join them.

Everything happen for the best, switching your carrier cannot make you an idiot. Sometimes life has a different plan for us, we just have to accept our fate and choose where we find comfort and stability. Every soul is looking for where it can find peace of mind. You're not the first person to make such decision and neither would you be the last. And that doesn't define you or make you less of a person. Majority of the successful people today, didn't achieve that success through their chosen careers. You just have to believe in yourself, believe in your abilities and capabilities and focus on your goals and achievements.

Honestly, in today’s economy, you can build a career just about anywhere. What matters is that it provides a good income and that you feel comfortable doing it. While many people work in fields related to their educational background, just as many, if not more, work in completely different areas. Sometimes, it’s simply difficult to stay within the field you originally studied for.

My own educational background is also very different from what I do now. In fact, throughout my 15-year career, I’ve only spent about three years working in a field related to my education. The vast majority of my time has been spent in completely unrelated areas. Yet, to this day, I still enjoy it.
