Based on what I've heard, it was just a rumor. Originally it was just for laughs but then some people mistook that information and created a rumor out of it.

Totally an hearsay, I can't find any reliable source that tells facebook is starting to accept bitcoin very soon. 3 years after OP asked this question still no one gave a source that prove that Zuckerberg is considering bitcoin integrating to his business. But it will be a great adoption if he'll start to use bitcoin for facebook as it's now on the trend and bitcoin now is very popular.

Facebook like microsoft or other large companies that do not want to use something they can develop on their own, there is no reliable source that discusses that FB really wants to use bitcoin, I'm sure they try to make their own coin algorithm for their payments, if using bitcoin too fast then FB will get a negative response from many countries, especially developing countries that still consider bitcoin as research studies.

They can develop their own coin or payment method just like what Alibaba is doing now, they have alipay and Jack Ma thinks that bitcoin is nothing compared to his invention. That coin that facebook will make is like something that can be bought to them directly and can only be used for purchasing their ad spaces / sponsorship ads.

Haven't came across any such information through any of the articles. Facebook has been used as a platform to promote bitcoin as well several other projects that exist related to the same. If Facebook has started accepting bitcoin, now we could have gone far apart in value. Maybe in future this might come true.
Yeah the same case with me I have not seen the bitcoin being accepted in the facebook but if we look at the value of the bitcoin then we will say it will be the best thing about the bitcoin as it is now increasing in the value and the time I hope the bitcoin will give the best and the future of the bitcoin will increase more and more with the passage of the time. The value of the bitcoin is now having the high demand so hope the facebook will accept the bitcoin in the future.
You are right bitcoin will get more popularity after acceptation if bitcoin on face book because a lot of all over the world and from different states using face book and some of them didn’t know about bitcoin do if bitcoin offers on face book then people will start investing in bitcoin that’s why face book will also plays a role in the bright future of bitcoin
I’m quite confused on what you guys are really talking about here. What is it there is to buy on Facebook? Ever since I started using Facebook, I haven’t seen them sell any products to users, except advert to promote your page or things like that. And I don’t see any reason for them to accept Bitcoin for that, they don’t even use PayPal, they only accept Bank card.

Hello all,
I hear of some rumors that Facebook is going to accept BTC in the near future Smiley Am i late with this news, or just misunderstand ?

BR,

Gondel
Rumors are just rumors dont expect too much about it. I think bitcoin will not be accepted truly of facebook. Facebook only supports entertainments and advertistments. Having a rumor like that is no actually accepted by others . I think this payments will tarnish facebook's reputation but not i alot well this is just an opinion.

No Facebook is not accepting bitcoins, facebook is just a social media for connecting people's and for the entertainment so what's the use of bitcoin there, that is the not the place for investment and trading so no chance of accepting bitcoins in Facebook.

I don't think facebook is interested in accepting any kind of cryptocurrency as of now. They don't look like the company that will just into some disruptive technology such as cryptocurrencies. Maybe what they would take advantage of is the blockchain technology. This is something new but something that may be extremely useful for their operations. Or probably they can create their own coin, something that would be used as payment for various things in the app itself.

I don't think that this is possible for now. I don't think that Facebook will be the first one to implement bitcoin into their system. For one, Facebook is not a website that regulates money and payments. I think the first one would be online stores, such as Amazon for example. It is worth implementing with websites that involves transactions.

I agree to that. We want sites or companies that has relation with making transaction such as buying things in amazon or any online shop because bitcoin will be more worth it to just be used in those kind of companies or sites rather than social media site like facebook that has nothing to do with selling things.

Facebook is the place where everything is being promoted because the bitcoin is the best and the high value currency, I am sure the bitcoin will a lot of the bitcoin holders are increasing In the value and the profit will be earned by the people slowly if we will have the bitcoin and will feel secure in the use of the bitcoin because now the value is high and the profit of the bitcoin will be high with the time.

That would be a great thing to happen for bitcoin because this way Facebook could interact with bitcoin and advertise it through there and this way bitcoin will be known by at least 60% of the world population.

Facebook won't accept Bitcoin if it doesn't want to have problems with government. Facebood is USA-based company, and there isn't any regulation laws for cryptocurrencies. So, Mark wouldn't tease government to only the one technical feature.

I agree with you it would be smart but do you see what is happening here we are transforming everything into crypto currency and it begins slowly and it will end up being able to pay everywhere with your coins.

I highly doubt that we will see facebook accepting bitcoin at the next few years, it is simply just not known so well for such a massive social media.
After all, if for example only 0.5% people on earth use bitcoin, then why would facebook care about doing such a thing possible? it just doesnt pays off to figure all that algorithms, systems and stuff.
I think we really need to make bitcoin strong and famous to be able use it on the mainstream media and websites.
