I'd pick Bitcoin because I think that everything is good in its time. Thousands of years people trusted gold and they had their point in the past but now is a new era and Bitcoin belongs to this era perfectly. If you are really talking about true ' long term ' instead of years it will be atleast 50 years then bitcoin is something that you should be holding instead of gold. I am holding my bitcons for longer and still i did not face any problem and any issue with that, I think you just try to hold your coins for longer you will start believe that there is no any lose in there,while for gold you are right but it will not give any profit just like bitcoin.

Investing in gold is physical and when it comes to physical investment chances of getting cheated is rare as you get into face to face agreement which is not possible with bitcoin.
