ya know, i didn't even notice the potential time difference when i imported that uploaded data. though, with the downtime gox has had this last week, is it really any wonder?

i don't post much, but this space for rent.

Sorry for late reply - it clearly looks as an issue on bitcoincharts.com. Unfortunately I have absolutely no time to write support for fallback/alternate source for historical download (is there any?), but patches will be wildly appreciated!

I guess I found the answer to my own question by looking at the source code :

BITCOINCHARTS_TRADES_URL = 'http://bitcoincharts.com/t/trades.csv'

The above URL doesn't exist.

Startup with no history has gotten extremely unreliable, so I took a whack at adding a while loop to chunk up the download 1 week at a time instead of grabbing the whole dataset. Unfortunately I don't have time to test it right now, but if anyone wants to try it out, please let me know if it helps.

https://github.com/scryb3/sierrachartfeed

Thanks,

Scrybe

Anyone that wants to help me out in fixing the Syntax errors in Scrybe's patch? I've never programmed in Python before, so I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing right now =P

Can you give me some pointers on how to use that? Is that possible with the free version?

I'm not sure if it's enabled on the free one, probably not.

Here's how you choose the feed anyway :

Click 'Global Settings' / 'Data/Trade Service Settings'

In the drop down menu select 'Bitcoin Data    [data]' - it's right at the end.

You will probably have to upgrade it if you didn't download in the last few days - I needed to get a subscription to do this.

Once you have the data source setup click on the 'FS' button/icon just below the 'File' drop down menu.

You'll be able to find the BTCUSD sumbol under the 'Other' selection.

Then click 'Open Intraday Chart' and you have a chart to start working with.

Thanks for the instructions! Unfortunately, I'm getting: Downloads are not enabled.  Your current service package does not support this function.  Select Help >> Purchase to upgrade your package. | 2013-04-17  19:48:16

So anyone wanna have a look at the the patch and fix the syntax errors?

Okay the one thing I have seen is that if the tool tried to download from the very begining (i.e. start=0) then fails much more then say its trying to catchup for the last couple of days. So It may help to import recent data and then try to download the rest and re-sync.

I have uploaded two files in this folder. one SCID and one exported txt file up until the last few minutes  (Apr 14 2013 12:53 PST). Hope it helps.

Hi, thanks for your great help. This solves the downloading issue.
But wel.... the feed isn't currently adding from April 14th onwards anymore, it now starts at April 20th  / the current date.

Could you perhaps upload an updated SCID version, till let's say April 19th?

I'd appreciate your help very much!

Thanks in advance,
Willy

Not to mention that the data is backwards again, which makes SC cry Sad.

Has anyone contacted bitcoincharts to see if they plan on offering historical data into the future? The hardcoded URL http://bitcoincharts.com/t/trades.csv is 503 Service Temporarily Unavailable. bitcoincharts recently removed the huge pending transaction page also, probably because these big files are an easy DDOS target.

The software IS open-source: https://github.com/slush0/sierrachartfeed/blob/master/sierrachartfeed.py

It could be modified to import any format of history file you may have, or if you are a crazy developer, you could implement a p2p price history sharing.

Has anyone else contacted BitcoinCharts about this?  This is very frustrating, I've been using the SierraChart feed since 2011 and BitcoinCharts just now stops providing historical trade data without any warning.

I haven't contacted them, but apparently they have a limit to query the Markets API "once every 15 minutes" (http://bitcoincharts.com/about/markets-api/)

this might be the reason, i am not sure, but i think i had not seen this limit before. Regardless of the time limit i was not able to retrieve the historical data in any case.

I have 3 intraday charts running in 1 min, 10 min and 24 hr periods. This morning the 1 and 10 min charts were OK with data going back to the beginning of the year, but the candlesticks were missing from the 24 hr chart. Single data points were still there but no candlestick bars. Does this have anything to do with the Bitcoincharts data feed change?

I have daily backups for the last three weeks. Is there a file I can restore to return the candlestick bars for the 24 hr chart? TIA.

Do you have the original bitcoincharts data, ie one line per tick in "timestamp, price, volume" format?

I've uploaded the full mtgoxusd history to my Dropbox (e.g. today's data is at https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/24587684/mtgox-daily/2013/04/21) and I'm setting up a couple of scripts for keeping it up to date, but I'm missing some data between April 7th and April 20th.

Do you know where I should look for the data you need?

BTW, looks like the Bitcoincharts MtGox feed is stalled again. It's  2 hr 30 min behind here.

I guess somewhere in your backups but that depends on what you've been backing up exactly.
