perhaps increase the POS difficulty and raise the block reward correspondingly by say, 10x? will allow POW and POB to be less affected by the vagaries of POS and more linked to the hashpower thrown at the network, while not taking away the POS interest aspect.

No, not going to happen! Anything that alters the coin supply will not be accepted by the majority. Who are you anyway, i've never seen you post here ?
EDIT : PoW difficulty is not jumping due to PoS...

EDIT2 : Ahh you are proposing a 10x increase in PoS blocks .. Maybe .. Too much in my opinion.

There is no change in the number of PoB blocks being found in respect to the number of PoW blocks. There is however, a lot more PoS blocks being found (3129 compared to 40).

That means that the amount of time to find 1 PoW block is larger, that is there by design. I may change the minimum difficulty for PoS blocks to make them harder to find, making the PoW blocks found more often and thus the PoB blocks more often.

I'm just a lurking miner, generally don't like to post. Though admittedly a little more frustrated recently with the ups and downs of difficulty.

As I understand it from a couple of pages back, PoW is linked to block generation rate. Since PoS block generation was a rather recent phenomena (height >16000), thought it might be interesting to have a community discussion.

A quick reminder for sellers active on bter, i'll take the last transactions as an example -  270SLM - 0.06BTC

270SLM now is more than 30 PoW blocks. Yes, 30. or 15 PoB blocks. $38 ? Really ? Good luck mining 30 PoW blocks for $38, electricity alone will cost more..

Great post and calculation primer-.
Right now SLM's profit is lower than Cryptonote coins given current diff and price, but I think some big miners still got PoB blocks and PoS blocks beside the PoW block, so the profit is consider on the same level with cryptonote coins. So dumping is obvious.

Can you post more details what changes you plan to PoB target and reward scheme please

I am not too sure about the reward, but I am thinking about the reward not being determined by the burn difficulty, but by (these are just ideas): either the PoW difficulty or the rate at which coins are burned.

As for the PoB difficulty, currently, it is calculated by the amount of coins burned. I will make it so that it adjusts to a target that would average a PoB block once every 3 or 2 PoW blocks.

I would like to see more, but smaller PoB blocks, also to give a higher chance for people who burned less coins to find a PoB block. Meaning the PoB difficulty should be less, but also the reward given by it, so there won't be more coins by burning. New investors should be able to join the burning party without having to buy 1000+ SLIM

Another suggestion: Make the burned coins decay speed adjustable, from a weight on 1 to 5 or so. If a 'burner' choose to burn higher then increase the decay speed, but also his "power" to find a PoB block.

The two precedent suggestions - I think - are not compatible. If you give the capacity to have more power even if it is for a shorter period of time, smaller miner are not going to catch any block.  The first one seems reasonable but I think we still need to increase the amount of generated coins.

My first concern on any change, is that it would be very unbecoming to see your burning coin disappears without the creation of any value [I just do not burn my coin for the fun...... I love to see my coins burning only as an investment and as an investor I would like to see return on investment or I will stop burning]. The actual process seems relatively stable and fair. For me only the quantity of block generated should be increased.

My second is that the POW is actually linked with POB and I personally think it could be very interesting to see a competition between POB and POW as the POW is not really energy efficient. Why not to separate both ?

The value will come in the form of mass interest in the coin.  As it looks now, it is very difficult for newcomers to break into the burning game.

I am completely on the same page with that, only good marketing  will create an interest for large exchange platform, users and miners but we need first a really effective coin.

Just to adjust the word value:

For me value is not the value in term of selling value. The real value disappear when we need more than 1SLIM burned to gain 1SLIM as time erode your burnt coins. This is the real value of a burnt coin, the capacity to generate a new coin. You can fix any value in a market for a SLIM, if one burn coin does not generate at least (one + someThingPositifMoreImportantThanTwoTimeTheTransactionFee) burn coin, the value of your burnt coin is zero.

....it is very difficult for newcomers to break into the burning game.

Slimcoin should certainly put online some explanation or directive for the burning part.

The information provided actually is more to address dev or experimented miner which is good but for the beginner it can really be tough.

It needs to explain simply how to burn, what is the purpose of burning coin and the process.
We also need here a basic method to evaluate the expected return for any amount burnt, with basic stats (Into the wallet?).

For POB: Instead of generating blocks, what about something working like a proportional pool or like POS ?

The amount of coins generated could be generated in function of your % of burnt coin (instead of your owned coins for POS).
This way you can fix in advance the total amount of coins generated by burn / year.
This solves the problem of remuneration of small owners/miners as well.
It can be calculated at the time of POS

I'm stuck on 15157 (been trying to sync for the whole night). Is it for everyone or just me?
Fixed by re-downloading the chain.
