I have had an issue regarding Monero TX fees. I had in my wallet, exactly 1.539246463904 XMR, and sent 1.4 XMR to an exchange. The resulting transaction is in the blockchain here: https://minergate.com/blockchain/mro/transaction/6140829924b68547172fa16069a343632b6f653e8d04fb3b239b9edf55689eb6Notice the three input transactions correctly total my wallet balance, and the two output transactions total the sent 1.4. What confuses me, is the remainder of my entire balance, turned into the transaction fee, 0.139246463904, leaving me with 0 XMR. I thought the network fee was 0.1 XMR, thus I would have expected one additional output, returning the change back to me. I'm obviously haven't lost a lot here (0.039246463904 XMR) but I want to make sure I didn't make a mistake, which may result in me losing much more coin next time.

Dust (amounts less than 0.1) are burned off as fees, because they can not contribute to the anonymity set of outputs.

Fair enough. I am relieved to know there's a good reason for what happened. I've heard of people using bitcoin accidentally giving away their balance as fees by not sending transactions correctly, and I just wanted to make sure this wouldn't happen when I'm holding 15 XMR and trying to send 1 XMR.
Thanks a lot.

Most of the exchanges are holding deposits due to some security issues. You can possibly contact their support and have them do it manually -- I'm told that has worked in some cases. Your transaction itself was processed and is confirmed in the blockchain (see below), which means Mintpal has your coins, and they should be credited to your account once they resume processing deposits. https://minergate.com/blockchain/mro/transaction/e0fc1b019bdd2790492090472da1882345ca30f9d8ff9cd9fd0a83118d852f73

If your transaction is not confirmed and you have a back up wallet, you can use that back up wallet to recover your coins.

bit of a noob question,
- i always download the win64_latest and have the bitmonerod and simplewallet.exe files. - i also have my wallet files (.bin, .keys, and another one i can't remember) for each "wallet".
1) i can run bitmonerod and sync. I can run "save" from bitmonerod and it saves the blockchain.
2) i then run simplewallet and load my wallet of choice. - no problems.
3) but i cannot "save" this wallet. so it scans and catches up from a previous block number (~180xxx from the last time saved) but when i enter "save" - an error message says "cannot save the wallet" or something similarly vague. so none of the update is saved. arghh
4) i can run the "save_bc" command from simplewallet and it saves the blockchain, but cannot run the "save" command.
What should i do ?
thanks

^You could try to: 1) Move your binaries and wallets in a folder with no additional privileges needed (like C:\Monero) 2) Check if your wallet files are with read only attribute set
