What country are you in?

I wouldn't bother with Cex.io. Coinbase and Localbitcoins are always good but you may have other options depending on where you live.

Don't bother going direct from USD or EUR to XEM. Options are limited and expensive. You'll get a better deal buying Bitcoin first and then going to an alt exchange like Bittrex. It should be on Shapeshift soon as well if it isn't already.

I've never heard of Indacoin, but the reviews look OK.

Usually when you pay with a card they add a big extra premium.

Yes. And make sure you have a safe place to store the WLT file that the wallet creates. You can restore your XEM with that if you lose the original wallet.

If you want to buy XEM direct with a card you can try here https://changelly.com but it's possibly going to be a lot more expensive.

Nope. I think it's an excellent project that's far better and more professional than almost everything else. It's also weirdly invisible. That equals potential.
