guys, in your calculation i'm not seeing any reference of a customs fee, that in this case is a pain in the ass for a decent ROI. At least let's check that bitmain is declaring low values (like the amazing 120 USD computer gaming gateway Cheesy )

I love how bitmain is so transparent about how they fuck over the mining community, which is the practice amongst all ASIC manufactures ... but bitmain uses it as marketing =) quite clever.

No, note I said every asic manufacture does it.
Look at the pricing slope. These things cost a few hundred, if that. Yet they charge an astronomical amount more to ensure miners make only a tiny fraction of profit.

Bitmain is smart though, they use that very fact as a marketing point to be like "look how our price curve allows miner to roi!!!" ... =P

Which, I know is inevitable, but just goes to show how desperate the mining community continually desires to be "lead to the slaughter" and give power to these evil companies.

What are people thinking for the cheapest power supply having 4 PCIe with enough juice for overclocking?

This is true and all, but it is better than the alternative(BFL, Cointerra, Hashfast, AMT, VMC, KNC etc) of never getting a chance to ROI.

Lesser of two(more like a zillion) evils, right?

Thing is.. it is hard to compare bitmain to 'other asic manufactures'.... they are not even in the same league!

ANN: BITMAIN has Tested Its 28nm Bitcoin Mining Chip BM1382

S3 is a blade style miner similar with S1, and two S3 hash blades share one control board.
Each ANTMINER S3 contains 32 BM1382 chips. It will be hashing at 504 GH/s while consumes about 390W from the wall. The overall efficiency is about 0.77 J/GH.
The design of heat sink is customized but it is compatible with the hashing board of S1. Hence we will be able to provide all the S1 buyers an option of upgrade.
We have added a box over S3 to control the air flow, and we use two fans so that each fan will be able to work at lower speed.

Effective Hash Rate: 504 GH/s±5%
Power Consumption: 390 W on wall
Power Supply: 4 +12V DC input, PCI-e connectors
Power Efficiency: 0.77 J/GH on wall
Size:  331 mm x 137 mm x 160 mm (Dual blades assembled inside a box, including the fans)
Fans: Two 14038 fans mounted on both front and back ends.)
Operating Temperature: 0 °C to 35 °C
Complied with: FCC / CE
Network Connection: Ethernet

The above descriptions and specs are projected number and subjected to change before the sales open.

Stay Tuned about the S3 Sales

We will open the sales of S3 in about 3 days on BITMAINTECH.COM, and the early batch is expected to be delivered very soon. The sales price will be announced soon and it will support a very best projected life time ROI based on our model.

Its great to see Bitmain have taken their proven work horse design and use it with their next gen miner.  I'm wondering how much overclocking room there will be however, as they will ship with second fan and air flow cover standard.  This suggest the chips may run hotter then the current gen.  I guess we will see.

True ... last S2 I received was quoted as a 'Bitcoin Miner' ... well OK ... it is ... but please don't advertise the fact to UK Customs so they can have a little fun with their charges. The one before was a 'Computer Gateway', and cost me £125 less in fees!

All that said ... the S3 will be available way quicker than I thought it might ... will be interesting to see their pricing, how the upgrades work etc ...

keep in mind, all current hardware will be dwarfed when AM brings its 1.4EH online =./

Thats if, they are able to still pull that off.... maybe they were just blowing shit out their ass, but yeah... something to ponder.

Just thinking about this sale.

Do you guys remember s2 first batch?
All people will jump s3 first batch to have as first. I will wait and will see.

All factors as :

-ups charge for delivery this babys(customs)
-how easy its going to be to set them up(s2 issues with sd card etc.)
-how easy will be to overclock them(first s1 and second s2 -a bit different devices)

need to be taken in account, bitmain is not stupid. but could be big NO NO if this will be something similar to s2 test on users.

I'm big fan of bitmain but people are blind with those "SALES".

Asics are massive overpriced. Just check price drops on s1 when people stoped buying at some point.

Later they introduced transferable coupons to open sales for even more people. Than MOQ2  so they can save on postage.

All this was smart move and s3 will not be different.

I don't think there is zero chance, but I do get that they would be significantly undercutting their S2 product. In that case they would either deeply discount the remaining S2 stock or else they are already nearly out of stock on them. By pre-announcing the S3 I suspect their S2 stock is low.

There no Bitmain products for sale at any of there outlets. None. The S3 will be the main focus and a huge winner with giant demand $1000 bare minimum. Prob more like $1300. I would bet on it
