I stopped my original server : London::UK::http://109.74.195.142:9332/::0.5%::BTC::Gyver's p2pool::Gyver - Now with graphs. Use '29fbe016a606fcb4' for password.
I've a new one set up which hopefully will not need any new change:
Germany::http://p2pool.bouton.name:9332/::0.5%::BTC::Gyver's p2pool::Gyver - Use 'bouton' for password.

Out of curiosity, do any of the server ops here actually get considerable hashrate from this? I remember back when I ran one for a bit it was a cause of great excitement to see my node running 2Ghash/s

I also have random users form time to time. IMO setup is easy to do so any1 can run own node and use public ones just as backup.

I have a couple regular LTC guest miners tho. -- Smoov

I am thinking of opening my Australia p2pool server.
How are people managing payments to third party miners - is there a way to automate this? I know that people join the pool with their btc address, but how to calculate and distribute payouts?

It's completely automated already. If somebody mines on your node with their address as their username, every share they find is tagged with their payout address. The only thing you need to worry about is the fee, which basically says how many shares out of every 100 gets tagged with your address. For example, a 0.5% fee would mean that 5 random shares out of every 1,000 are yours.

Assuming you are simply intending to make your node open to the public... All your guest miners have to do is use their payout address as their username in their miners. P2Pool just treats them the same as if they are mining locally, to a payout address, nothing extra needs to be done on your end. You need to write up some custom programming, if you intend to do merge mining also, like P2Pmining does. -- Smoov

I have read about p2pmining, and I don't really get it - it even things out somehow - so I can't see that this is something I need to consider right now. Thanks for the help Smoov and Krak

Ok, here is an Australia server to add to the list. Latest p2pool, and running two instances to minimise downtime (recent peer count dips are from testing this). Melbourne/Victoria::Australia::p2pool.airbred.com:9332::0.5::BTC::Hum::paulkoan

Thanks for the help Smoov and Krak P2pool advatages over all other pools: - decentralized - no DDOS attack possible - you can use any public node as backup pool when your node is down - no pool operator - noone can keep/steal blocks - only 0.5% fee by default for forrestv as developper (you can change it up or down) - transaction fees are split by miners - extra reward for block founder

They reduce variance somehow but I don't see how.

Yeah, I am pretty new to this, I don't get what SD and SP are here. Is that share difficulty plus a typo? How do you reduce the difficulty of a share to 1 and still get a meaningful result?

SD=Share Difficulty And yes, SP is a typo, lol. SD of p2pool depends on total pool power. When pool power is about 250GH SD is around 500. More power=>higher SD. Thats why variance for small miners can be too big. On higher SD (750 and more) miners like me <200MH can have full 24hrs w/o share and not get paid for block. P2pool uses PPLNS for last 24hs payout so you need have at least one share per day. P2pmining node is using SD=1 shares to calculate payouts, so variance is much lower and depends only on total p2pool luck.

P2P Mining actually uses a variable share difficulty according to their total hash rate as well. It's currently at somewhere around 4, but you can set a static difficulty if you add it after a + in your username (like address+2 if you want 2 difficulty shares all the time).
