P2Pool Server List

The goal is to provide a list of servers located near you, to make connecting locally simpler. Act locally, think globally, .
This will help to spread the word about P2Pool, providing an opportunity to try it out without having to setup a server or node.
If you are running a P2Pool server you can share your details here. It is transitional easing to get people involved.

What's the point of making my node accessible to the public?
You like the P2Pool concept and have decided to run P2Pool for your hashing needs. You understand what it takes to maintain a server and so decide to offer your node for public use in order to help those who may not be in a position to set up a P2Pool node themselves. You understand that this isn't a way that will make you rich but it will get you positive karma points.

Alert: If you have already taken the time to upgrade p2pool, it is now on version 3.1. If you haven't upgraded your node please do so as soon as possible.

#Modified: Jaycoin has built a modified p2pool node with a PHP front end to always offer diff1 shares to hashers. This helps to reduce variance in finding blocks and helps when receiving block rewards providing more consistent payouts than a standard node. Code for the mods are not yet now public. Check the P2PMining thread for details.

NothinG has created a web version of this server list, featuring graph displays of each pool.

I would like someone to test mine to see if it actually can be reached from the internet, because the miniUPNP used by coin daemons does not work with my router but whatever p2pool is using does seem to work but I have not yet proven that it works. I supposeduly get incoming connections, but maybe those actually result from some kind of hole-punching rather than from actually managing to set the router correctly.

The hostname is ot.knotwork.com, the ports are the normal default ports for bitcoin and for litecoin (I run both). There is NO FEE on either currently. Once we see whether they can in fact be reached I will have to put a fee on litecoin because I have nothing I can merged-mine with litecoin. For the bitcoin though I wish I could set a negative fee, that is, pay out more than 100%, because that way users could benefit from the many other things I merged mine alongside bitcoin. However I looked at the code, and it turns out trying to put a negative fee would not do the trick. Which I should now take up with the author of p2pool in another thread...

Location is Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

The link you provide has no way to know which of the miners use the server that is looking to pay its miners, in fact the vast majority would go to miners who probably never even knew the server existed let alone actually used it.

Thanks for testing one of my ports. I'd still like to know about the other too but it looks like maybe some kind of hole punching must be responasbile for my incoming connections.

Strangely though, litecoind itself was also getting incoming connections, unlike any of my other coin-daemons. So I thought maybe the litecoin authors had done something to make litecoin different. If they didn't I wonder why it *is* behaving differently from the other chains in that respect.

P2Pool stales don't work the same way as stales on centralized pools. On a centralized pool a stale is work which is too old to be accepted by the pool's Bitcoin node; this kind of stale is very rare in P2Pool because each user runs their own local bitcoind.

On P2Pool stales refer to shares which can't make it into the sharechain. Because the sharechain is 60 times faster than the Bitcoin chain many stales are common and expected. However, because the payout is PPLNS only your stale rate relative to other nodes is relevant; the absolute rate is not.

There are two reported kinds of stales in P2Pool: "DEAD ON ARRIVAL" shares and orphan shares. Dead shares were too old by the time they arrived at your local P2Pool. Very high dead rates can indicate miner misconfiguration. Orphan shares are shares which were not extended by the rest of the P2Pool network, because some other miner's share was accepted first. Very high orphan rates may indicate network connectivity problems.

I know, what I was asking is if I should have high stales if I am pointing my miner at a node. My CPU Miner only has 1.75% stale, so I know that reapersv13's broken longpolling was causing all the stales. Once mtrlt fixes it I'll point my gpu back to you.
