News:
  • Our seventh Kimocoin auction is over.
  • A new wallet has been released that changes our currency code from KMC to KIMO and moves the decimal so that 1000 KMC = 1 KIMO.  This will allow us to trade in BTC.  Please download it.
  • We have a new logo.
  • Due to an error in the block reward code, we had to hard fork at block 150300 on 7/14.  You must update your wallet.  Do not try to use the old one, it will not work. All coins are safe.

Kimocoin has a new dev team.  We have active development and a growing international community.  We are now over half way through the subsidy decline phase.  There is still time for new miners to collect a nice part of the distribution, but the reward is falling with every block.  We should reach the end of the subsidy decline phase on August 14th, after which the block reward will be fixed at 5 KIMO forever.  Kimocoin offers one of the best values in crypto, we are more profitable to mine than anything and yet our miners are holding because we know the value will rise as block subsidy falls.  In June we held a KIMO only auction for a brand new Intel SSD.  In July we auctioned off a brand new 500GB USB 3.0 External Hard Drive.  We are planning more such promotions and events.  Join us and be sure to ask how you can contribute to our growth and success.

Wallet Download:
We had a hard fork on 7/14/14 at block 150300 due to an error in the original KimoCoin code.  There was a mandatory wallet update, the original wallet will no longer work.

- the market is quite active

This new topic is one good step to go forward.

As ltcnim opinion, also my opinion is that coin logo is not at all good.

It is important to understand the psychology of perception and the way in which the human subconscious impressive image of the logo is formed. It is not easy and need special skills.

The current design is somehow disharmonious and blue. It somehow have an effect as well as the colors, but also figure in the down-slope lines. The whole pattern is as in the wrong direction. The lines go from left to right downward. The broad pattern somehow mixed confused. It's a bit kind of like a child would be drawn by a ruler without the knowledge of what really wants to draw. Simply. The whole is depressing. Figure shows in some way, as if that goes down. But, This is my individual opinion and there may be also opposite opinions.  (oh this kind of things are difficult to translate by google)

But, it must also be noted that, for example, I do not have a logo design adequate skills. a good logo is not simple especially when taken into account in a global world other than our own culture.

I believe that this coin have better future than history. This is why I will continue mining with some mining power.

This week monday, 23th June,  I win auction about Intel 120GB SSD drive and paid using KMC directly.
It have not yet arrived due to long distance but jacob019 have done very fast shipment and all looks perfect in this time.  Tracking information is as predicted. After it arrive I will give final report about this.

Good news with this new thread.
Still mining this lovely coin Smiley

And, the auction showed how people get simulated to buy kimocoin when we talk about real-life stuff, like SDD or other computer stuff. So, hope jacob will find a way to organize more auctions Smiley

It seems to fail to connect to the coin network. It finds 7 peers, but fails to connect to all of them. Stale peers ?

Edit: also, your post says "Solo mining with the wallet is the preferred method of mining.", but the mining link you give says "CPU Solo mine with wallet (Not recommended!)". Hrrhhmmm ?

Thanks for the feedback.  When we update the wallet I will add new seed nodes. Meanwhile open the debug console and enter the following:
Code:
addnode kimocoin.com add
addnode kmc.1js.us add
I added this information to the OP.

About solo mining, CPU mining is not recommended but you can still use the wallet to solo GPU mine with vertminer.  It's the best way to mine, but it's more difficult to set up and has higher variance.

you should definately get rid of the old logo. it's one of the worst coin logo's ever  Lips sealed

I really agree with you guys.  It's a terrible logo.  My design skills are terrible, I don't think I'm the right person to fix it.  I might be able to find one I like and edit it, but we would be much better off if we can find someone who can design a nice logo for us.  I would then update the website, the OP, and the wallet with the new logo.  I do like the yellow and black colors though.  I would offer a 5M KMC bounty if anyone can make a nice one.

I have not any relatioship with this coin former developers and not with current dev team. I'm just only one who continue mining and using this coin. Only later I can see if this was right decision. I can not loose anything but electric and part of mining hardware lifetime. But as gambling it may also lead to something useful for me.
Remember that you can now mine with good profit. Ater some time it is more difficult due to coin block reward designed decay.

I've contacted a couple designers to get a quote for a new logo design. I'm willing to pay something for it, not sure how much.

We used to be traded in BTC on Bittrex, but since it now trades in LTC there was no trading activity there so it was delisted.  Our miners are holding now, so although we have some good activity on Comkort it makes sense to wait for the block reward to fall and the trading activity to pick up before we reach out to them again.  Comkort is a really nice platform, give it a shot.

Thank you to Wolf Rainer who designed this logo for a very small fee.

He also provided this light version:

It isn't high design, but it's a nice simple logo and it's much better than the current one.  I might be able to commission one from another designer, but I can't spend a lot.  If I get a low bid I would commission another and then we can take a vote--or we could accept this one now and start work on changing the logo everywhere.  What do you guys think?

Hi there KimoCoiners,
I wasnt here a long time. Supporting and mined intenzively - my address is still in top10. I remember mining when the reward was less than 500, also remember mining when it was nearly 100k.
I was robbed out of my whitecoins, so i intend to continue trading with some other coin, so expect some buys from me, i also wish to have over 1mld kimocoins. Now there are around 140M in my pocket.
Hope and trust this coin has a bright future - i also paid some coins to forgetmes shop, but no need to refund.
Live long and prosper KimoCoin, I will help you as i can.

Congratulations to our winner Qxw, a longtime member of the KimoCoin community.  This has been a lot of fun and we'll certainly do it again.  Next big event will be the creation of a new thread.  We're going to need everyone's help to get some discussion going, so check back often.

This 120G Intel SSD have arrived today to EU and to my hand.
Here it was delivered directly to my hand as "Express" letter (including shipping day, total 7 days).

It was well packed and all as told including tracking and even picture about shipment after payment.

jakob019 have done exactly what he promised and also it was shipped same day as auction ended and paid using 45M KMC.

Item was as described. Tested SSD and it works OK and pass all tests (as predicted).

Thanks jakob019 about perfect work.

It looks that KMC is in good and reliable hands now. This is not anymore students exercise.

--

This Wolf Rainer logo is of much better than original. Of course it is nice if there is more choices what peoples can vote, but if not, this is far over original.

I might try making a logo later if I have the time. I prefer sticking with the yellow and black, with maybe some alteration but not that much

While we wait for more logo submissions, let's vote on the next auction.  Before we do the auction I need to see a nice number of votes.  A cheaper item will have more eligible participants, so don't just vote for the most expensive item.  Cast your vote on the poll at the top of the page.

Currently the top votes are USB 3.0 External Hard Drive and Precision Screwdriver Set.

Learn more about these items on Amazon:
Precision Screwdriver Set
500GB USB 3.0 External Hard Drive

Currently the most expensive item is winning.  Please remember that if the price is too high only the top rich will be able to afford it, so it might be better for the common miners and traders if we select a lower price item. Alternatively we could do a lower capacity drive to keep the price low.  If we get more votes for other items I will post info about them also.  The screwdriver set is very nice.  I use mine all the time.  The metal is Chrome-Vanadium alloy, nice machining, a comfortable handle, and a convenient zipper case.  The hard drive is nice too--the USB 3.0 interface offers the same speed as an internal HDD.  This will be a KMC only auction with free worldwide shipping.  Hope to get more participation for this auction since the last one was a success.

Faucet works also well. Also there is now more balance after 02.07.2014. Wink

But then, what is this now. Some hour ago I check all was ok and balance "enough":
Quote
We apologize, but Faucet Wallet is Empty !
11 Faucets sent in the last 24H !

Total sent to users from the start: 5562733.0848135 KMC

Actual Faucet Balance : 0 KMC

How it can be empty?
now is 11 faucet sent total in last 24h  and just some hours ago balance was over 2M KMC.

I have thinked that this is for promote coin and so on...
So, also peoples who can not yet mine  can get some amount of KMC free for example exercise with wallet, money transfer and wallet features etc. Also it can be some extra for peoples who have very very low hash rate in mining.

This is good way to start learning if you are very new or just starting from nearly zero knowledge how these all works with digital coins.
I will recommend to learn how to use bulk addresses with safe way. With these free faucet coins you can exercise.

Why it is now empty? After not more than <30 faucets sent after over 2M KMC donation to faucet at 2.7.2014?

Guys, I'm sorry it's my fault.  I changed the code to pull the balance from the new block explorer to improve the speed, but it doesn't include the balance of the change addresses--stupid mistake.  The coins are all still there.  I fixed it.  Thanks for the bug report.

GraberKGD, thanks for your additional donation to the faucet.  The new balance is 5.8M, that's enough for 580 draws.  I've noticed more activity on the faucet recently.  The current average payout is 10,000 KMC.  Do you think we should make it higher?

"USB 3.0 External Hard Drive" is the winner of the poll.  So let's begin the new auction.

We're having a KMC only auction for a brand new Protronix 500GB USB 3.0 Hard Drive.

  • Constructed of an aluminum alloy for durability and effective heat dissipation
  • USB 3.0 cable with molded connectors and extra thick copper wiring ensures optimal transfer rates
  • Preformatted with FAT32 filesystem for maximum compatibility
  • LED power indicator changes color to indicate hard drive activity
You can read more about it and see more pictures here:
https://www.jacobsparts.com/items/ETQ-BLK-500A/
Since it's USB 3.0 you will get transfer speed that is just as fast as an internal drive when using it with a USB 3.0 port, but it's also compatible with USB 2.0.

The auction includes free worldwide shipping by USPS Priority Mail.  The item will be declared as $50 merchandise and you are responsible for any import taxes.  The last auction was a big success so I hope to see more participation this time.

This auction will end on Wednesday 7/9 at 10:00 PM GMT (6pm EST), later bids are invalid.  We'll bid in increments of 5M KMC.  Post your bid right here in the thread.  The winner will have 24 hours to send the payment or the next bid will be accepted.

Put your KMC to work!  Who will place the first bid?

Is it possible to declare it like 20USD package? I will handle the consequences.

Also there is a thing at mintpal voting - are we such a small community? Im voting few times a day everyday last 2-3 months and i think im there alone voting.
We rly need to spread the word about KimoCoin - #100 today and slowly going deeper...

EDIT: I know Im not alone voting, there are some other votes from some of you and would like to thank you for all the KimoCoiners.

There's a lot of development in Kimoland  Cool

1.  I have received a preview of the second commissioned logo.

Please cast your vote for our new logo at the top of the page.

2.  For our auction of a brand new 500GB USB 3.0 External Hard Drive we have a bid of 15M KMC.  Who wants to take home a portable hard drive with great performance for a crazy low price?  Can I get a bid for 20M?

Put your KMC to work!  Who will place the first bid?

I couldn't resist browsing on that website, and I came across the world's smallest harddrive... I don't know if we could, but it would be awesome to hold an auction for it. It's only $3.50.

And also, I was wondering if the Bitcoin vanity address generator works with Kimocoin? I used it for Myriadcoin with the arguments -X -50 if I remember right. It would be cool to have a Kimo address that says KBird(r4nd0mCh4r4ct3r5).

Also, for the logo, could we mix them? I love the font on the first one, but it is too complex. The second one is nice and simple, but I'm not the biggest fan of the font. Maybe do a transplant? I could try if the authors don't mind, it won't take very long to do. I think it would look awesome!

Regarding the logo, I'm still waiting on the final vector file from BitDesign so I can't provide orignals yet.  The K logo is actually a custom drawing, not a font.  If you want to try a mashup, we could certainly add it to the poll.

A vanity generator would need some modifications, but I think it would be simple.  Never used one though.

About the world's smallest drive, you should know it's really just a collectors item.  In theory you could hook it up, but I'm not aware of any devices that support the ribbon connector.  That said, since you're in the US I would sell one to you for 3.5M KMC.  PM me if you would like to proceed.

We're having a KMC only auction for a brand new 500GB USB 3.0 External Hard Drive with free worldwide shipping.
Who will bid 15M KMC?

20 million KMC from me :-)

A big thanks to community member MoneroMoo for submitting a new logo.  It's a very nice logo, so to be fair I am resetting the poll.
Don't mind the artifacts around the edge of MoneroMooo's logo, that's my fault--the final version will be perfect.

Even if you already voted, please vote again for your favorite logo.

MoneroMoo best logo

It IS good. It is best.

Also both others are good and I like personally very much this Rainier logo but if I need think something over my own personal taste I select MoneroMoo. (voted)
This logo outer line need cleaning....... (is it from packaging or from some image format changing in some steps before thjis published image and shape is not smooth and it looks like there is some "wrong color" pixels just in outside border.)

Yeah MoneroMoo's logo is really nice, and a 100% volunteer contribution!  The edge artifacts are my fault, will not be a problem for the final version.  It's brighter than the others which is nice, and probably has the best mass appeal.  My vote is for BitDesign though, it has character.

Thanks for your bid of 30M KMC for a brand new 500GB USB 3.0 External Hard Drive.  This is our second KMC only auction and we're shipping worldwide.  Who will bid 35M KMC?

ok, seems to work pretty good. it needs some better (clearer) design I think, and most important: hotkeys. I suggest to use the sage hotkeys as just-dice.com or jpcdice.com since those are pretty much standard and allow much faster gambling.

175M 24-hour volume on Comkort, nice!  Buy orders exceed the sell orders, don't be shy to trade.

Buyers can try to buy...

Miners can mine and keep...

I do not want sell anything with these prices. I flush them out from window to birds if anybody do not want pay what is equal or better than mining total costs.
Still now buying is more cheap than mining.

It is late to cry after price go better and then start talking that something is not fair.
Everyone can do it now, least now, buy something if someone want sell and mine if it is possible.

Who knows that he is right and wise now at this moment when he makes some choices. No one.

What was wise or stupid, this we know after it is too late to change. Hindsight is always but it does not seem to benefit much.
Decisions and choices can do only with this information what is available now and rest is mutual.. feel, believe, etc...

Previously I have been just giving up. It was in this situation what we all know as case "forgetme".......
n this time I was "hands up" and just stopping all related to KMC and stopping mining.
Just in this time I look and find thet perhaps there is some hope. And soon after this I can see that KMC is going to more trusted hands by "jakob019" and some who co-work with he. My opinjon was immediately soon that oh... this KMC is not going to dead. Now some time later I feel this coin is in reliable trusted hands. This team looks do good job.
They can not, of course, keep this alive without KMC users.
The ball is now thrown into the KMC users. If KMC is not successful, the reason is not theirs. They are doing a good job.

After this, I will continue mining and keep coins and perhaps use also something for example these auctions. As example previous 120G Intel SSD drive.

new logo vote : wolf rainer

but the K could be more worked, some "volume" on the letter could improve it, and the K isn't centered, nice background. Bitcrea K is better but there is no background. Mayby the bitcrea K shape on the wolf rainer background could be the best ^^. To be honest, none of the 3 logos really convince me.

  • Still now buying is more cheap than mining.
Last time I did the math it was much cheaper to mine.  Even at 5 Litoshi's it's quite profitable to mine and dump, but the difficulty has gone up and the block reward is about to fall, so that may change.
  • In regards to exchanges, it's my opinion that we should aim for one strong exchange.  Right now we are still small, so Comkort is a good home.  As our volume grows we should try to get on Bittrex, Poloniex, Mintpal, or Cryptsy, but I think one is enough.  I see it over and over with other coins that are on multiple exchanges.  When a coin hits MintPal there is a big pump, then a week later the price crashes hard, it's very bad for the coins.  Then everyone trades on MintPal and forgets about Bittrex, so they get delisted from Bittrex which hurts it even more.  It would help us to get on one of the big exchanges, but I think one is enough.
  • Unfortunately we do not have control of the Twitter account.  I was unable to get it from forgetme and now he doesn't check the his BCT account anymore.  If anyone can find his personal contact information I will ask him, but I cannot find it.  Frankly we were lucky to get control of the domain.  It's really a shame because #KimoCoin is the best twitter handle for us.  I can get any emails @kimocoin.com, but unfortunately he used a live.com email address to register the twitter account.  Undecided
  • Some nice volume and price movement on Comkort.  24-hour high of 17 Litoshis with 185M in trades, keep it up guys!  Grin
  • For the logo contest, we have one extra vote for Wolf Rainer from didux who was unable to use the poll due to being a newbie.  This means that Wolf Rainer is in the lead.  where did our BitDesign voters go?  I reset the poll twice now, sorry about it--please check to make sure you have voted.
  • If you haven't played yet, try out Kimocoin Dice.  So far the players are beating the house!

So how could be there any good trades, if its cheaper to mine some than buy even for rly low price?

It's a theme that plays out in every coin.  The price alone isn't low or high, it just is.  It's low if you think the price will rise, it's high if you think the price will fall.  When the mining is more profitable than the market price, more people will start mining until the difficulty balances with the price, normally there is downward pressure on price because many miners will mine and dump if there is any profit, but KMC is special.  We have a small community of dedicated miners and everyone is holding, not many sell orders.  It's a strong indicator of upward market pressure.  I am trying to collect as much KMC as possible, but I can only mine as much as my rigs will support, so I'm also buying on Comkort.  I've bought some extra hash power on leaserig and betarigs, but I don't want to buy too much because if the difficulty rises too much the profit of my rigs will fall--so I'm enjoying the current situation.  I'm willing to buy on Comkort for a higher price than it would cost to buy some hash power because it does not hurt the difficulty.  KMC is a really good value and it's growing--that's why the difficulty is rising even while the reward is falling fast.  The difficulty and price will continue to rise because we are building trust with new promotions and services and we are steadily growing our market cap. 185M looks like some good trades to me and I agree, the price is low.  Wink

Fixed, sorry for my poor spelling.  Roll Eyes  Got your vote, so that's two extra votes for Wolf Rainer giving that one a 2-point lead.  Still not enough votes.  I would like to see about 20 votes before we declare a winner, so if you haven't already please vote for our new logo.

Block reward fell to 60K.  After the next block reward decline at block 150K, the reward will fall with each block.

My pleasure!  If any other KMC users in the USA want some items from jacobsparts.com, PM me and we can work out a deal.

Diff > 14.5 -- very nice.
< 4 days until the reward starts to fall with each block all the way down to 5k.
Nice trading on Comkort, keep it up!

- It's time for a new logo, but we need more votes.  Come on guys, it's up to you to spread the word and get some more people to help us vote for the new logo.
- I want to do more auctions, but I need your support to grow our community.  We can't just have the same four guys bidding on every item.  I need to see more votes for the logo as a sign that we can do it and that it's worth my investment to auction more items.
- I have more development ideas, but really none of that matters if we can't gather 20 votes.

There are many good signs for our coin like more people using the faucet, rising price and trade volume, and more network hash--but the most important thing is to have a strong community and the center of it is right here in this thread.  I'm counting on every one of you to tell at least one friend or BCT trading partner about Kimocoin.  It's small thing to ask someone for a vote.

Many thanks to community member Didux for submitting a very nice logo.  Since I already reset the vote twice and I promised not to reset it again, I will not reset it this time.  If you want to change your vote to Didux's logo, please post your comment in the thread and I will keep track of it.

Nice to have you here and thank you for the vote.  Which country are you from?

There are now two extra votes for Wolf Rainer and one extra vote for MoneroMooo.  That gives us 16 total votes and puts MoneroMoo in the lead.  It's a very close contest.  We need at least four more votes.

Welcome!  Happy to have you here.  There's a note in the OP about it.
The first time you run the wallet you may need to add some nodes to get connected.  Click Help > Debug, select the Console tab and enter the following:

I will update the seed nodes in the wallet for the next version.  Let me know if you still have any trouble.

Dev news:
  • Really nice trading on Comkort, 105M KMC traded in 24 hours.  Grin
  • We need three more votes for our new logo.
  • I have successfully created a new wallet with a new symbol "KIMO".  It has the same blockchain as KMC, but 1000 KMC = 1 KIMO.  If we make the switch, then Kimocoin can be traded in BTC, which is much better for us than LTC.  The wallets are 100% compatible, and the old wallet will keep working--no hardfork.  I am looking for some community reaction to this idea.  I also need people who can test the new wallet and compile binaries for Windows and Mac, please PM me if you can help.  If everyone agrees with the change, we can deply the new "KIMO" wallet with the new logo.

Sounds great Jacob! The new wallet would really help us out, maybe we can get back on Bittrex or even Cryptsy.

But, as also you have previously told some arguments about exchanges I will notice this. Do not keep hurry to other exchanges too early.

Change the currency unit is not a good idea.In this present KMC attractive, large amount of money is a good thing.
Application is the most important of the electronic coin.So Dev should develop new application as soon as possible or attract more sites receiving KMC, even the adult website.

Our price would have to rise over 10x in order to be traded in BTC, and even then it would only be 1 satoshi, so it would have to go up 100% more to reach 2 satoshi.  A currency needs to be easily exchanged.  Now our price is tied to LTC, which is falling, and we are relegated to obscurity.  BTC is king.  I really think moving the decimal would make us stronger, we would be trading at about 83 Satoshis, and nothing would stop us from going higher.  I don't see any downsides.

We would still have a larger amount of money than most coins.  I understand your concern about such a change, it's a big move.  In this case it seems the benefits greatly outweigh any negatives.  As for new applications and adult websites, it's up to all of us to push Kimocoin into the future.  You can contribute too and if I can offer any support please PM me.

Any other thoughts, concerns, support or opposition for changing KMC to KIMO and moving the decimal left?
Still need logo votes.

I don't see any problems.  Block reward is 60k.  On p2pool each block is split among all the miners, but the total for each block is correct, 60k.

Am I missing something?

if the coin is divided by 1000 the block reward should be 1000 times lower then to compensate.

Yes, of course--that's automatic.  In fact, I'm testing the new wallet right now and you can mine on the existing pools without modification and the coins show up /1000.  The pool might show 60000 KMC, but when you get coins with the new wallet there are only 60 KIMO.  When the new wallet is released, I'll update p2pool, the block explorer, the faucet, etc to reflect the symbol and decimal change.

The main consequence would be BTC trading.  Right now if you want to buy some KMC you first have to buy LTC, which makes it more difficult and ties our price to LTC.  Our community is small enough that it should not be a major disruption.  In fact KIMO and KMC would still be compatible, if you send 1 KIMO to a KMC wallet, 1000 KMC will show up.  If you send 1000 KMC to a KIMO wallet, 1 KIMO will show up.  If you have 1M KMC in your wallet, and you upgrade to the KIMO wallet, you will see 1K KIMO.  The new wallet just moves the decimal left.  What other consequences are you unsure or concerned about?

Got some bad news.  Forgetme made a mistake in the block reward code.  After block 150000, the reward is < 1 KMC.  Undecided

You can see his mistake here:
https://github.com/jacob019/kimocoin/blob/bc81a83bd121d0620576da969a78f2c1533740bd/src/main.cpp
*** line #1128, can you see it?  He forgot to multiply by COIN, so the reward is in Kimotoshis, instead of KMC. :-(

We're going to do an emergency hard fork at block 150300.  I have contacted Comkort about it, and will update the pools and everything else.  For all the community members, you will only need a new wallet.  We're going to wait for the change to KIMO until after the emergency update.

Seriously, what a stupid mistake.

I have finished the changes.  The patched source is available here:
https://github.com/jacob019/kimocoin

I have already updated the p2pool nodes kmc.1js.us and p2pool-eu.kimocoin.com, so you can continue mining as normal.  The block explorer and faucet have been updated also.  Comkort is aware of the update and is working to install the new wallet.  If anyone knows how to compile for windows, please help.  Otherwise, I will study it later tonight.

No need.  The only thing you must do is download the new wallet, you may continue mining as normal.  Please do not send any coins with the old wallet, it will not work after block 150300.  All KMC services have been updated with the new wallet, I'm just waiting to hear back from the other pools and from Comkort.

Yes, I got that. What I meant is that there might be consequences on trading, like higher volume, liquidity, that kind of thing. Which I don't know much about, so I only gave my agreeing opinion on the points you gave. I did not have any particular thing I was concerned about. Just... hazy about second order effects (and I don't mean necessarily bad ones Smiley)

This hard fork has nothing to do with the change to KIMO.  The hard fork is because forgetme made a mistake with the block reward.  In fact the change to KIMO has been postponed until the dust settles from the hard fork.  All your coins at Comkort and anywhere else are safe, just don't use the wallet until you upgrade to the new one.  I'm compiling a new one for windows now.  Does any one use the Mac wallet?

Sorry for my poor communication.  The change to KIMO is delayed for one week.  Now we are doing a hard fork to fix the block reward, still KMC.  After you download the new wallet, you may mine and trade as before.  There is a mandatory update to the new wallet, there are no other changes.

The hard fork has occurred and the block reward is fixed.  Smiley  If you are still using the old wallet, please close it.  The new Windows binary will be available very soon.

If you're mining on P2Pool and don't see any recent coins, don't worry--they're still there and will show up as soon as you open the updated wallet.

I'm going to sleep now, so I will post some troubleshooting instructions in case anyone has trouble syncing the new wallet.

1.  Go to your Kimocoin appdata folder > C:\Users\Jacob\AppData\Roaming\KimoCoin
2.  Make a backup copy of wallet.dat (optional, but a good idea)
3.  Delete chainstate, blocks, database, and peers.dat
4.  Then open up cmd, then go to your kimocoin-qt.exe directory, like mine is C:\Users\Jacob\Downloads
5.  Type kimocoin-qt.exe -rescan
6.  Add some nodes to get connected:
Help > Debug > Console
addnode kimocoin.com add
addnode p2pool-eu.kimocoin.com add
addnode kmc.1js.us add
addnode dice.kimocoin.com add
7.  It will resync and re-download all the blocks and update the chainstate

These instructions are only if you have trouble, it should sync without this.

Chinese participation is really good for coins.  They have 30% of earth's population and rising wealth.  It's unfortunate that we cannot communicate well with their community. What we really need is a Chinese ANN thread.  Can anyone find a translation service?  I would pay a small fee and write something up, but we need a strong translation by a native speaker.

  • Voting for the new logo is over.  The winner is BitDesign.  Thank you to everyone who participated, especially MoneroMoo and Didux for their logo contributions.  It was a really close contest--they're all great logos, but I need to start the integration work.
  • Next week I will release the KIMO beta wallet with the new logo, the symbol change (KMC -> KIMO), and decimal change (1000 KMC = 1 KIMO).  The KMC and KIMO wallets are 100% compatible, so we can user test the new wallet for a few days before asking Comkort and the pools to change.  I want to make sure everyone has updated from the fork before we begin the transition to KIMO.
  • We'll be holding another auction this week, maybe another SSD.  First we must wait for Comkort to resume deposits and withdrawals (they suspended it per my request due to the hard fork).
  • If you have not yet updated your wallet after the 7/14 hard fork, you must download the updated wallet.  The old wallet will not work.

Good luck for KIMO new logo. All logos was good. Most important is that old is changed asap.

My mutual opinion is that this is very important point!

It is sad that qt-wallet do not have (?) message function where "system" can push some "alarm" type notification to wallett window so that user is forced to get (what ever important system information) information without user self active seeking and finding this info from some forum.

The wallet does have such a feature, but there is a public key encoded in the wallet for verifying the messages.  The public key is the same as Vertcoin which Kimocoin was originally forked from. We do not have the private key so we cannot send the messages.  I will study it, maybe we can update it for the KIMO release.  It would be a nice way to make announcements, but unfortunately we cannot use it to announce the fork.

Congratulations to BitDesign on the win. A nice and distinctive logo. It was a close race to the end Smiley

About the key issue, I think I saw somewhere that some coin dev had left the key from the coin they forked, and the original dev sent a warning about this to the new coin's wallet Cheesy Not 100% sure it's true though, but better change it anyway just in case!

I have updated the logo on the OP, website, faucet, and P2Pools.  Our next version of the wallet will have the new logo as well.  If you find our old logo anywhere, please ask the site to update it.  I can provide PNG's of any size by request, or you can use this vector grapic to make them yourself:
http://www.kimocoin.com/img/kimocoin.svg
(it makes for much sharper images than resizing a raster graphic)

27 Faucets sent in the last 24H, WOW!

If you have not yet updated your wallet after the 7/14 hard fork, you must download the updated wallet.  The old wallet will not work.

I am pleased to announce the third Kimocoin auction.  This time we are auctioning a new Toshiba 60GB SSD.  The capacity is lower than our last SSD, but the specs are top of the line.  I hope the lower capacity will bring the price within reach of more users.

Toshiba 60GB 2.5" SSD SATA III 6 Gb/s MLC

Model: THNSNH060GCST4PAGB
Read speed: 534 MB/s  Shocked
Write speed: 450 MB/s
Lithography: 19 nm

This a KMC only auction with free worldwide shipping.  Bidding starts at 10M KMC and ends on 7/21 at 4:00 AM GMT.  Who will place the first bid of 10M KMC?

For auction jakob019 did not tell minimum or fixed  increment. If increment is too high it may lead to too high final price ( note)  and with it -  need also think that every mirror have also back side.  It may have negative effect for KMC value.

(note: and less peoples bidding what is also not good)

When we buy real things using KMC directly and what things also have real price on the "fiat money" markets (USD, EUR, CNY etc prices) we  indirectly show what is exchange value for KMC - this is important to keep in mind.

Example, if some product real price including delivery is, say example 100 USD,  and I make 200M KMC bid then I have just told that I will sell my KMC with 50 cent /1 M KMC exchange rate.

Some other "findings"
In example my case where I really also pay mining rigs electric I made simple calculations and for me every 1M KMC electric price is very near 0.5 Eur. This is only electric. There is also other costs of course. This was calculated using today situation (46000KMC/block reward)  and network total hash rate. I can get now around 13M KMC using around 50kWh total power what is over 3.8kWh for one M KMC.

In Comcort exchange today immediate sell price is 0.08LTC for 1M KMC.
0.08LTC is around 0.67 USD and it is around 0.5 Eur.

If electric is 0.13 euro cent / kWh it means that mining 1M KMC electric price is around 0.5 Eur.

Now if exchange rate stay today level and block reward fall or difficulty change if we get more hash rate it is much cheaper to buy KMC than mine.

So, it need think carefully how some things may manipulate KMC value / exchange rate.

(disclaimer: calculations/estimates are not accurate and they match only alone in my personal situation with my mining equipments and electric consumption and prices. Also I hope there is not mistakes in calc.)

Soon exchange rate need rise more than 10x (block reward fall to 5 KIMO) and for make it possible it need many kind of clevcer marketing and also information so that KMC / KIMO (kKMC) is better known with its new better management. If exchange rate do not rise and have no reason to believe it will later rise who will then mine it if need keep expensive rigs here mining and pay investments and direct costs as electric etc.
Situation is different if someone have free mining HW and free electric.

My purpose here is to support KMC.  The bid increment can be 1M KMC, but of course you can bid as high as you wish..  What do you propose that we do differently?

Current bid is 25M KMC for a brand new top-of-the-line 60GB Toshiba SSD.  Who will bid 26M KMC?

Yes it is now ok. (1M KMC increment).
It is some amount different thing if keep normal auction for just sell things or "support" auction for this coin.

(ref. other previous comments)

Only meaning for restart auction was that IF want more bidders and try start enough low with example just 1M inrements. Of course no one can promise it give more bidders. Specially need these peoples what are not now active with KMC. This coin need  more users. This kind of auctions are part of this but also other things are important. But it is ok also now with 1M inc.

----------

This is critical time due to decreasing block reward (soon we have nearly one tenth of today reward). Alone it do not automatically push coin value higher.
There need be peoples who want this coin. Why someone buy some altcoin as example KMC. One  reason is that he do not have this coin and he need this coin for example pay something what is sold with this currency. Other reason is of course speculative that people believe he buy now using 1 grain of rice and later it can sell and get 2 grain of rice.

Why I mine this coin. Just because I strongly believe it rise later.  Now it have reliable management what make it possible.

It can not mine now and immediately sell and get a profit or even cover all mining costs. (if do not have very cheap or free electric.)
But, this profit problem is now with hundreds of altcoins so we are not alone and if compare even today block reward and today price KMC is still not bad.

Thanks for your bid.  Grin

It is some amount different thing if keep normal auction for just sell things or "support" auction for this coin.
I am doing this to support the coin.  International shipping is expensive and the KMC selling price will not cover my cost at the current market price.  I sell these goods easily in the USA market for a nice profit, but KMC is my hobby and I want to support it.  It was not my idea to have 25M first bid, but it's still a very low price for the drive.  I think as the market price rises and the community grows the auctions can become profitable.  Anyway I really appreciate your thoughts and I agree with you on all points.  We need more services to grow the Kimocoin ecosystem, speculative investment is not enough--there are too many altcoins now.  The auction is just one idea and it's easy to implement.  Do you have any other ideas to promote KMC or offer new services?

Current bid is 26M KMC for a high end Toshiba 60GB 2.5" SATA SSD with 534 MB/s read speed and 450 MB/s write speed.  Can we get 27M?

Guys, as I said in the previous thread, the price is not only the prime cost, but a tango between offer and demand. Plus other stuff like inflation, popularity etc. In the other word: It's complicated Cheesy
And remember, price it's a "now moment" stuff, therefore it's changing all the time.

1.  Go to your Kimocoin appdata folder > C:\Users\Jacob\AppData\Roaming\KimoCoin
2.  Make a backup copy of wallet.dat (optional, but a good idea)
3.  Delete chainstate, blocks, database, and peers.dat
4.  Then open up cmd, then go to your kimocoin-qt.exe directory, like mine is C:\Users\Jacob\Downloads
5.  Type kimocoin-qt.exe -rescan
6.  Add some nodes to get connected:
Help > Debug > Console
addnode kimocoin.com add
addnode p2pool-eu.kimocoin.com add
addnode kmc.1js.us add
addnode dice.kimocoin.com add
7.  It will resync and re-download all the blocks and update the chainstate

These instructions are only if you have trouble, it should sync without this.

This did the trick Smiley

I am proud to announce the new KIMO wallet for your crypto pleasure.  Wink
http://www.kimocoin.com/kimocoin-0.8.7.zip

The new wallet uses the same block chain and is 100% compatible with the old wallet.  Just close the old one and open this one.  1 KIMO = 1000 KMC.

Changes:
  • Change symbol from KMC to KIMO
  • Move decimal left so that 1000 KMC = 1 KIMO
  • Removed alternate units from Qt interface
  • Updated seed nodes
  • Updated Kimocoin graphics
  • Fixed broken block reward subsidy (7/14/14 hard fork)
  • Changed alert key

Please note that this code has not yet been merged into the master github repo, so if you want to compile from source please check out the KIMO branch.  If no one has any problems then in a few days we will merge the changes into master, and ask Comkort to switch over to KIMO.

Perfect work  @jakob019

How to get more peoples who are interest about this coin? This is big question.

KIMO coin is now in good reliable hands.

If calculate mining profit even with today low price, it is still very good if compare to other altcoins.
But we need more users and urgently as soon as possible.

I have not yet had a chance to update the website and services to reflect the change to KIMO, but it will be coming soon.  Comkort has been notified of the change, but I have not yet heard back from them.  I let them know about it in advance, and they were responsive, so I expect it's just a matter of time before BTC trading begins.  It would probably speed things up if everyone contacts them to let them know that we are looking forward to the update.

Anyway, it's time for our next auction, a KIMO auction.  This time we are auctioning a cheaper item which will give more users the opportunity to bid.  Still it's a very useful item that everyone needs.  Wink The item is a Protronix 4-Port USB 3.0 Hub.  This is a quality desktop hub with a solid aluminium case, and top performance.  The hub includes a power adapter for extra power but in most cases you don't need it.  The power adapter has two flat prongs, so if you are in a country with round prongs, I will also add a socket adapter.  This is a lower price item, so we will be shipping via First Class mail.  The shipping is a little slower, but there is still a tracking number and for most countries you should get the item in about two weeks.

The Protronix UH3-01 Hub offers a fast and simple connectivity solution for your computer with the most advanced USB standard currently available on the market.  Equipped with four USB 3.0 ports, this hub is designed to achieve maximum throughput, whether its connected to a SuperSpeed USB 3.0 device with transfer rates of 5Gbps or a High Speed USB 2.0 device with rates of up to 480Mbps.  Durable aluminum alloy construction with brushed metal finish brings both form and function, making this hub complementary accessory to all desktop environments.

Features
  • USB 3.0 transfer rates of up to 5Gbps
  • Backward compatible with USB 2.0
  • Plug and play (no drivers needed)

Specifications
  • Transfer Rate:  Up to 5Gbps
  • Power:  5V 2A (10W)
  • Dimensions: 7.6 x 7.7 x 1.4 cm

Package Includes
  • USB Hub
  • USB 3.0 Cable (Type A to Micro B)
  • AC Power Adapter

Bidding starts at 1000 KIMO.  Minimum bid increment is 500 KIMO.  Remember, 1 KIMO = 1000 KMC.  This is a KIMO only auction, bidding ends on Thursday 7/31 at 4:00 AM GMT.  Who will place the first bid?

The auction is over.  Congratulations to winner Qxw who is taking home a very high performance Toshiba SSD drive for only 36M KMC.  Thanks to everyone who participated, it's great to see more people involved.  Sorry if you didn't win this time, but we will be having more auctions so stay tuned and keep mining and buying Kimocoin.

Toshiba SSD drive arrived to my hand yesterday.
Agen, as also  previously, jacob019 did perfect work.  Immediately shipped with tracking number.
It was very well packed and all exactly as described.
Reliable service!

Nice to see that KIMO coin can directly use to buy real things.

36000 KIMO for new good quality Toshiba 60G SSD and shipped!  Nice!

Thank you.

Really happy that you guys received the shipments--and thank god no customs trouble with Russia  Wink

Thanks for your trust, continuing participation, and support of Kimocoin.  The project is a big success.  I exchanged a few emails with Comkort yesterday, hopefully they will add KIMO trading soon.  I still have some work to do to finish converting all the services to KIMO, will try to do it this weekend.  And of course we'll have more auctions.  I think KIMO trading will help participation in the auctions because it will be easier for people to buy Kimocoin.  In a sea of altcoins, Kimocoin is a shining star with a real future.  Keep up the mining, trading, bidding and community discussion.   Smiley

Comcort have temporary interrupted trading with KMC so it looks like they are doing this change now.
This info appear only if you try trade. (after you try confirm your order).

Do anybody have any more information about Comcort and KMC  - KIMO?

Without any information to users they freeze all customers KMC balances and tradexs and user can not even withdraw own KMC's.

Got this reply from Comkort:

"Good day!

To unblock trading we have to recount all balances. That could be done by our tech team. But currently they are working hard on update.
I think in 3 days everything will be done. Anyway will ask them tomorrow about urgent update, maybe it will help to speed up that process."

Seems reasonable considering the complexity of a denomination change.  I don't think any other coins have done this before.

Last trade heve been 31.07.  Now is 07.08.

Coin have been now one week without any real working exchange service.

Block reward is decaying. Difficulty is decaying. Miners are running away.

This is not KMC develop team problem.

This is problem in customer care  and crap quality  of service by  Comcort.
Leaving customers without any knowledge about situation is really bad customer care. In seven days anybody can write one or two sentences on the side for keep customers informed. It just show that they do not care.

Still after 7 days no any information on the Comcort side about what is going on and what is estimated time and how can withdraw if do not want waiting. These coins are customer property, not Comcort property.

(only small note what pops up after try confirm some trade order and also this can do only if people have balance.  But then if want withdraw own KMC's. Oh well, LTC is not listed at all in balance list and can not even try withdraw.

And all this without any kind preliminary warning about coming situation on KMC trade side and still without any information about current situation.

If this is quality of service by Comcort - just run away as fast as you can and do not touch Comcort even with long wooden stick. This is not way how handle "customers" - even small customers.

Everyone please contact Comkort. I think we will get more results if they hear from more people than just me.  Otherwise we could look for a different exchange or build one ourselves.  I'm very busy today, maybe I can find some time to study it this weekend.

The warning is pretty obvious though, it is in the denomination of the coin - imagine you are an exchange and you make your money with the trading margins. To cut down wallet transaction costs, only withdrawls and deposits are actual transactions done with wallets. Everything else is just information somewhere stored in the database ( person X owns this much, person Y owns that much, etc). The moment the value of the coin goes out of sync with the balances in the database you'll have to manually update the balances and perhaps the total transaction history. As stated before, no other coin has probably done this until now. So they'll have to make a patch for it, verify it on a testing environment and roll it out nice and gently. So please stop slapping Comkort unless you can do it better.

Everyone please contact Comkort. I think we will get more results if they hear from more people than just me.  Otherwise we could look for a different exchange or build one ourselves.  I'm very busy today, maybe I can find some time to study it this weekend.

I'll contact Comkort as well. Eventhough it is probably an interesting exercise, I don't think building an exchange yourselves is the greatest idea unless you are hardcores backend developers with sufficient knowledge of locking mechanism and a lot of free time Tongue

Just internal thinking but oops.. my head leaks my thinking to out...

Block reward is now around 10 KIMO

soon it is 5 KIMO
If then total mining hashrate (all miners who mine KIMO, including me)  is around 10 MHs/s (very low total)
and  my hashrate is so that I get around 2000 KIMO / day (well under 3Mhash/s) in my case I need use nearly 50kWh / day electric.
It is around 6.5 EUR / day.  It means that 1 KIMO electric price for me is 0.00325 EUR  what is around 0.00000740 BTC (if 1 BTC is around 440EUR.

Even if people have totally free electric it need around 2kEuro miner. Also this investment need get back. If you think about 1-year repayment period, excluding interest it costs 5.5 euros a day if value is zero after one year.

So --- what is one KIMO price if want earn something?

--------------------------

PS
If want KIMO's  there are nearly free KIMO's available in Comcort now. Much cheaper than mining costs. Wink

"But I don't know how I get my hard disk?"

What I have win in previous  auctions (two times, one 120G SSD and one 60G SSD) I have get these just as normal postal small parcel/letter with tracking... if you read some previous  messages you find these cases and also some other peoples what they have win.

What I know and have personal experience, jakob019 have done very perfect and fast work with shipping items.

But first he ask we vote what item he set for next auction.

Sorry guys, the voting was locked Shocked  Now it is fixed. Please cast your votes.

The 500GB hard drive is a Western Digital WD5000BPVT in a Protronix USB 3.0 enclosure.  The drive will be shipped worldwide via USPS Priority Mail with tracking, 5-10 days to most countries.

Guy Mollet, if you check the thread history you will see that we've had several auctions, including both of these items.  Everyone has received their shipments without any problems.

Anyway, 55sat seems very undervalued price if you image we hit bigger exchange. A good start is C-CEX, we have a lot of volute to catch to even think for Bittrex again.

Already 5 KIMO block reward Smiley

Jacob, a few time ago, here in this thread, we discussed about change the hash algo. Something about that, or no need anymore?

We had a hard fork, then the update to the new KIMO wallet.  Changing the algo would require another hard fork, and Comkort would have to suspend trading again.  Maybe in a month or so we can discuss it, but I think for now it's better to let the dust settle.

Each time you mine a block it creates a new transaction.  When you want to send some money it has to aggregate many inputs to reach your transaction amount.  If the transaction size is too large you can't send it.  I recommend creating a new paper wallet, sending all your coins to it, then importing that wallet.  Then you will not have any limits.  Send the coins using the debug console, so you can create many transactions quickly.

I'm worried not about many transactions to do, but the fact of paying fee for every "little" transaction. In that way I'll lose some coin, and this doesn't make me happy at all. Sad

Total transaction fees will be < 1 KIMO, a worthless amount --don't worry about it.  See the OP for creating a paper wallet.

Had many days to bid, and everyone only bids the minimum increment.  If you bid what it's really worth to you, instead of 1K more than the last guy, then you would have won.  What time would you prefer?

We can do another auction, but I need to see more KIMO spirit.  Please post a note if you're interested in having more KIMO auctions.

I'm not really sure if those auctions can really push the coin. To me, it just looks like that it just benefits two or three people here. There is no way around the fact that in order to make coin successfull again (if that's even possible), it needs a lot of dedicated attention, coding, marketing and stuff. Otherwise it will just stay dead.

I'm tend to agree.  I have a real job and can't do all of this alone, we need a team.  I love KMC and will keep buying, but I'm not willing to keep giving away expensive SSD drives when only 2-3 people show up to the auction.

Maybe they could start using twitter once more...? Might get some interest going?

No news?

What news do you expect? It's just as usual: everyone waits that someone else does the work (no offense to you!) ^^

kimocoin website is down; I cannot get the latest 0.8.7 wallet... I guess I should move this coin to my graveyard folder? Or does anyone still has a node connected, somewhere?

If so, please do share? Smiley

Peace!

Comkort announced delist of KimoCoin, so, I think, this is absolutely end of the coin. Sad

In a few hours, I'll stop the miner (I suppose I'm the only miner at the moment).

Or maybe there is a chance to revive the coin? Are someone interested in this coin?

I think, there are many people, who interested in this project. but they still do not fully understand, what they need to do. For this, all are watching and making conclusions. in order to make the right decision in the future.
