This really bums me out. I really believed in (the original) DASHcoin because of the whole BCN scandal. It was like a virgin BCN. I spent alot of time and even some money mining DSH. This is truly a letdown.

This whole affair is simply disgusting. It appears that the Darkcoin developers are trying to kill this coin for its name. The reality is that the Dashcoin name belongs to the Dashcoin community and not to whomever made this deal with the Darkcoin developers. My take is that the Dashcoin community should simply fork the coin and keep calling it Dashcoin.

Edit: I find trademark bullies simply very disgusting.

It actually raises some pretty interesting ethical issues. If the Dashcoin devs sold their development to Evan (i.e. the Dashcoin name and whatnot), then where does that leave a holder of Dashcoin? Is there some recompense for them too? You'd be pretty upset to find out that the crypto you've purchased or mined has just turned into dust because the "devs sold out"!! I wonder what this means exactly? A crypto is made up of devs, the code (which is generally open source anyway but not always), other associated IP and the coins the holders/investors are in possession of.

I could be wrong but "we" bought the coin and "we" can destroy it -  burn it

Mmm....somewhat troubling (but not surprising for this "wild west" realm). If this is correct it means a dev of any of these altcoins can "sell" his or her development and, if the new owner decides to take the name or disband it, any cyrptocurrency units out in the wild effectively become worthless overnight? I don't like the sound of this. I know there are no guarantees in crypto but that's pretty terrible.

I've read a few pages of their thread (and noted your, what's effectively a, "tough titties suckers!!" posting there Mangled) and they seem to have been taken completely by surprise and now their anon dev "slb" is actually seen as a complete SOB and would be drawn and quartered if he shows his face there any time soon!

But they're talking about taking it over as a community (SPR style). I just wonder what the ramifications of all this are i.e. what stops them (if it's open source) just continuing on with Dashcoin and refusing to change its name!

Very surprisingly though their market cap is going up! A few hours ago it was just over $6K, then it went to $6.5K and just now was $6.65K. Doesn't make any sense at all unless people think somehow we're switching with them and they're going to now be Darkcoin! (wouldn't surprise me if someone's buying madly thinking this.....insane).

Anyone who owns Dashcoin should consider legal advice, and not dump the coins.

Personal opinion I don't think there is much interest within the Monero project to support a clone.

I do think its entirely viable for a community member (or members) to take over dashcoin if you want to keep it going. After all remember the whole point of this project (if I'm not mistaken -- I haven't really followed dashcoin until this DRK thing happened) was to be a straight clone of bytecoin without changes. Actual development would only be needed if bytecoin broke and its own devs didn't fix it. (This was always why I was suspicious of the developer of this coin soliciting donations; seemed like a rip off to ask for funding for a straight clone.)

glad i choose XMR over dark, seeing dark doing business with crooks in the expense of smaller community of dashcoin..there is an ethical issue here as renegademan said, this will taint dark forever.


@smooth the dashcoin dev is just asking for donation for extra work in creating GUI wallets, web wallets, apps etc. but for the development of the code itself there is no funding needed as i recall since it is a clone.

This assumes the developer actually owns what he is "selling". If the Dashcoin community simply forks the coin and continues using the name all the Darkcoin developers have purchased in the end may simply turn out to be a lawsuit.

I actually mined dashcoin more than monero because the diff was lower...

me too... all OS and GPUs have working and optimized miner at that time, fair launched indeed. I already liked the name since the beginning.

being a clone makes it cheap, even when cryptos are in depressed mode there is no need for funding since it is a clone so there is no whining devs..this coin should spread nicely

maybe dark devs offered some of their instamined coins to dash devs...these ethics creates some sort of trust issue to dark devs (hey dash coin dev i'll buy your name, fuck the dashcoin community, we will enrich ourselves)..crypto currency is about community...this way you can see dark devs will dump at the community at their target price..i bet they cannot hold their pants and wallet like satoshi nakamoto

I have now forked the GUI also.
I have a small stake in Dash but my main satisfaction would be to see Dark devs plans do bust. I can't believe they have such arrogance and are so selfish.

i don't see dashcoin is going to be big at the moment but the way XMR and DRK is at war, i say XMR need dashcoin to at least survive, to teach dark devs a lesson in stealing dashcoin name(which is bad for DRK publicity), ethics, and the nature of open source and community.
