This is not an "IPO" because there are no shares being offered in a company, nor voting rights or dividends. This is a simple presale of coins as a method of initial distribution. Acquiring virtual currency tokens always requires expending of resources (money), whether through the expense of mining or by buying the directly on an exchange. A presale gives non-miners a fair shot at acquiring coins and helps to establish a base value. |

Edit: With its intent to be traded on exchanges as currency. Note the title of this thread: "[PRE-ANN] [VIA] Viacoin - the future of digital currency )" As being labeled as such, with intended future trading, on exchange(s) it is therefore regulated by the SEC as being such. They have been contacted. |

As a scrypt coin we could always take advantage of merged mining in the future. That is why we chose scrypt because there is a lot of hash power available. Our blockchain can be sped up a lot more as we are working on headers first block propagation. |

BTC are not being burned, just the deposit addresses are being associated mathematically with the BTC deposit address. It is explained on the presale terms page: http://presale.viacoin.org/termsDETERMINISTIC DEPOSIT ADDRESS
Deposit addresses are calculated by creating a 2-of-3 multisig bitcoin address. P1+P2 belong to us and P3 is the public key from a private key from derived from sha256d(viacoin_address)
This formula allows the entire presale process to be transparent and avoid the need for registration since all bitcoin payments are linked to the final viacoin deposit address.
The public keys used will be published after the close of the presale.

MacOS Vialectrum has LSArchitecturePriority set to prefer i386 in Info.plist, but python binary set to /usr/bin/python which is 64-bit in any recent MacOS. So it does not start. The workaround is to uncheck 32-bit mode in application's 'Get info'.
