Dogie,
I just got two new S3's in.
I normally give my rigs a thorough check to make sure they work fine when I first get them.
They work fine! My main concern is the following:
When I press the reset with a paper clip, they both kind of reset... I suppose...
The only problem is, they are still in DHCP and do not go to original static with an IP of 192.168.1.99
Is there a new way to reset to factory settings with the new S3's that are shipped out now?
That is how you reset them. By 'both still on DHCP', do you mean you've reset both of them and you have them both on at the same time?
No Sir...
They were delivered to me set up for static at 192.168.1.99
All of my others [if reset] will stop DHCP and go back to static at 192.168.1.99
These new ones I just got came set up at static and 192.168.1.99. I changed them both to DHCP. I checked to make sure they will reset alright if I ever needed to for whatever reason. They would not reset back to factory default in static like my other 16 S3's will do. They stay in DHCP and will not go back to static when the reset is pressed.
What I was trying to check is if you had both of them plugged in at once, which would cause a conflict. Are you able to connect to them?
Yes, Sir.
I had set them up separately one at a time. I had switched them from static to DHCP one at a time. I set up the miner configuration on each... one at a time. They are both mining now. I'm able to connect with each one. I can even see in miner configuration the option to change the frequency AND THE VOLTAGE like on an S4. I can connect to them just fine.
I just wanted to do a thorough check of them before I consider them okay and no need to send them back to Bitmain. One of my checks was to see if I did a hard reset, would they reset properly. What I found was if I reset either one of them, they remain in DHCP. They do not reset back to static. They also maintain their memory of the pools they were configured with. They will not reset to factory pools they normally have.
So, basically, I'm telling you my new S3's will not do a hard reset. They work fine! They just will not do a factory reset. They go through the motions... as if they are reseting. However, when you try to log into them with 192.168.1.99, you can't. They would still be set up with the log in they were set up for with DHCP and they still have the same pools I set them up for. The pools were
not erased. They simply will not do a hard reset if I wanted them to do a hard reset for whatever reason that may arise in the future.
I noticed the option to also change the voltage with the frequency like an S4. All 16 of my other S3's do not have this option. So, I was wondering if it's a software issue concerning it not being able to do a hard reset. Which would erase the pools and stop DHCP and send them into static again.
All of my other S3's will go back to static and the pools are deleted if I do a hard reset. These 2 new S3's will not do this. So, this means my new S3's cannot do a hard reset if I needed them to in the future. They go through the motions, acting like they are reseting. However, once it has gone through it's dim green light business, I have to switch the power off on the PSU and then back on to get them to boot back up. Once they do boot back up, they still have the same pools I set them up for and they are still set up for DHCP NOT static with 192.168.1.99.
All of my other S3's will reset back to static with 192.168.1.99 and all of my other S3's will delete the pools I set them up for. Which means I have to set them back up for DHCP and I have to set them up for the pools I want them to join all over again. Which means all of my other S3's WILL DO A HARD RESET. However, my two new S3's will not!
So, again, I'm simply saying my new S3's act like they are going through the motions of doing a hard reset. Yet, when it's done going through its motions, one would think you have to plug an ethernet cord from the computer and into the S3 to connect to it again using 192.168.1.99 in the browser. However, that is not the case. They will still have the same DHCP set up and the same pools I set them up for. They act like they are doing a hard reset. Yet, when I go to try to connect to it with 192.168.1.99, I cannot connect to it that way. I can still connect to them through my DHCP way. I can still configure them however I want. They just will not reset back to factory settings.
So, I'm basically telling you the reset does not work on my new S3's. They act like they are reseting back to factory settings. Yet, they don't reset back to factory settings. They remain with the settings I have set them up for. I have no problem connecting to them and configuring them however I want. The problem is they will not do a factory reset in the event I ever want them to do a factory reset in the future. So, when I say I do a thorough check of my rigs when I receive them, I do a thorough check. This check I do includes making sure my rigs will do a hard reset back to factory settings. Meaning I would have to reset the pools AGAIN and I would have to reconfigure back to DHCP from static AGAIN. Well, all of my other S3's will do a factory reset back to factory settings if I reset them. My two new S3's will not. They maintain what I set them up for and will not do a hard reset back to factory settings!
