@Hadmart, have you tried with 16.10.3?
I've lost about 2 hours trying to get my 470s to work on Win 10. I kept getting freezes and cards weren't recognized properly. I think it also has to do with the fact that I heavily undervolted my cards. They work fine on my Win 7 (classic theme, black background).
I'm running 5 of them on my Win 7 now, haven't tried 6 cards yet. All with driver 16.10.3 (21.19.155.257).

Hmmm, I'm having a weird issue.
On an H97 Anniversary, running 5x RX470s on a Windows 7 x64, no issues. I connect the 6th, getting to the Windows loading screen and I here one card after the other spinning it's fan then stopping, I'm counting 6. But soon after, the card in the last PCIe slot starts spinning again and the computer freezes. Removing one of the 6 cards and the computer boots fine.
I'm using driver 16.10.2, tried gen 1 and 2, no difference. Any advice?

does this card work in another slot ? have you tried a different riser ? is another of the working card does the same in that 6th slot ? are you using stock bios ? if you flashed, maybe something went wrong. Have you used the 6x gpu mod before installing the 6th card, because it's needed on w7.

Have you used the 6x gpu mod before installing the 6th card, because it's needed on w7. Card is modded, but it's a solid mod so to speak. Different riser, different cable work. However yes, it's always is that last slot that the card has an issue (the bottom one). It'll work fine on 5 cards though. Yes I did install the mod once the 5 cards are working properly. Kinda out of ideas. I could try a bios update. Tomorrow I'll try a complete driver uninstall and then reinstall cards one at a time, see what's what. I gave a shot at Windows 10 the other day but ran into a whole bunch of issues...

Ok so I got all 6 cards running on Windows 10, but initially, I was having the same issue: as soon as the 6th card was plugged in, the one in the slot closest to the CPU would start spinning again after Windows found it, and the computer would hang.
I fixed it by disabling the onboard lan in the BIOS, turning the computer back on, let Windows see and install the drivers for the card and boom, I could log on and all 6 cards were there. I then restarted, re-enabled the onboard lan and I'm now mining with 6 gpus.
I have a feeling that if I replug my Win7 SSD and do the same procedure, i'll get the 6 cards running.

Just wondering, did you disabled the integrated onboard GPU if your motherboard have one ?

Test if you can, please. Sadly, that wasn't it. @m1n1ngP4d4w4n I did yes. I'me now mining on Windows 10. However, my rig would crash after about 30 minutes. Went to check on it, and it was off which indicated a shutdown had happened. Turns out, I had put 2 sticks of 4GB on that board and a BSOD was happening (Memory_management). Removed the second stick, put the first stick back in slot A1 and it's been mining for 6 hours straight now. So, it could be that this faulty ram was also causing the Windows 7 problem. I'll test it to see when I have some time on my hands. I must say, I didn't want to migrate to Win 10 but the fact that it can recognise 6 GPUs natively is pretty nice...

Cool nice you got it to work Yeah W10 is pretty cool with big rig, make work so much easier

Hi, I'm having troubles with win 10 as well. I've tried a bunch of different combinations, but I'm not able to run 6x470 with modded BIOS, only 4 of them are working.
On default BIOS everything is ok, but crimson 16.12.2 can't recognize modded BIOS, so I had to downgrade drivers. I'm trying a couple of drivers, but all with the same problem, only 4 with modded bios can run.
Any advice would be highly appreciated.

Afaik you need special driver for BIOS-modded 470 cards.

Use 16.9.1 drivers, or atikmdag-patcher-1.4.4 for other versions.

I will try it over the weekend and inform here how everything went. For now they are working on 16.10.2, 150 total for eth using 780W. Hope that I will make it work on 16.9. because during testing I saw that this version has absolutely best power consumption.

8 cards and beyond, you need Linux or Win10 Enterprise with some registry hacks. Checkout Pandaminer.com

Yes, read the thread from the start ; ) However it depends on the cards, f.e. 8x290 works on Win10 out-of-the-box.

H81 (Asrock Pro btc 2.0) can't boot with more then 7 cards, i think there is no enough space to address more devices. But i will try disable sata and usb next time.
