How will the proof-of-ownership for Bitcoin algorithm work? Can someone with 1000 BTC claim Stellar, then move to a new address and claim again with the same 1000? Will there be a formula that accounts for "taint"? This means that people will end up buying "tainted" Bitcoin from exchanges like BitStamp and not be able to claim.

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

They will announce 1 single block. If your address held bitcoin in this block, then you can claim. Pretty straight forward.

I just hope they work with "signing a message" instead of importing private keys..

I find this really interesting because there has never been a "get paid to own BTC" program before. Someone will develop an API that allows for easy "cashout" where you just sign a message and receive BTC, cutting out the middle-man (Stellar). Would be interesting to see how many people go to their safes and bank deposit boxes to get their private keys to sign with.

Would be pathetic if someone has to book a flight to another country just to import their private keys to claim their huge prize.

Bitshares/Lottoshares is doing that. AETher wants to do that.

It is called "spin-off" if 100% is distributed to BTC holders, not sure what it is called with 20% though

https://www.stellar.org/stats/
123,817 Facebook auths in the past 4-5 days? wow

That's the power of facebook, even some noobs in facebook that have no idea what stellar was and know nothing about crypto world, were 'forced' to register and sent their coins to someone else

Yes but you have to give it to stellar, they probably reached more people in the few days than bitcoin attracted in the last 30 days!

true. it was pretty viral and they got a lot of traction. it was really awesome.

probably it means the .001%  of the avalaible supply of BTC at that time (snapshot).
Actually there are 13,105,025 (coinmarketcap data) so the 0,001% is 131,05. With that amount of btc you would get 190k stellars, and with 0.001 btc you would get 1,45 stellar in this scenario.

You switched from american commas to European commas half way through your post.

And then back again and then again.

EU -> EU -> USD -> EU -> EU -> US

LOL! I laughed harder than I should have had with this. I still get comments for using the commas that are most mommon here in Eurpe as well but this was over the top. :')

I always get confused when I shop at US and EU sites....all this american commas to European commas.

Crypto-Trade has a poll and thread open for opinions on stellar, they are currently deciding if they should add it and seeking some honest opinions and information about it

That site is shady:

We aim to provide the most accurate, up-to-the-minute prices for Stellar (STR) cryptocurrency. Calculations are based on recent prices from leading exchanges.

Yet they don't mention which exchanges those are. That said, their price is 0.00000541 while the actual price is around 0.00000455
