Interesting idea, although I dont see how in the long run it would change anything. If it catches on people will compete with their HDD size rather than hashrate.

Sure, but also won't be taking a billion watts of power to run. There will always be a competition somewhere. May as well not take (in my case 550+ dollars a month) to run GPU rigs or the like.

It provides a mechanism to prove ownership and use of some form of resource, without requiring large amounts of electricity and heat dissipation, which are two of the largest complaints about Bitcoin's PoW system.

Really? I'd say Burst is a brilliant idea. Truly anyone can mine Burst on their laptop or home computer without ever raising their power bill.

CPU coins are meant to be mineable by everyone, but botnets ruin their profitability. Not to mention electricity.
ASIC coins require special hardware so they're off the board.
GPU coins are a nice medium between CPU and ASIC coins because GPUs are common, but they're power hungry.
PoS coins are energy efficient and mineable by everyone, but only if they buy coins first.

Almost everyone has an HDD...

Can I specify a folder to generate? for example another disk?

You can by running the plot-executable from another directory:

cd /mnt/disk
/home/me/plot 1234 0 10000 10000 8

places the plotfile to /mnt/disk

Too add some speed comparisons, a 2xE5-2650v2 (when the plotgen is compiled with march=native and -O3, though that doesn't appear to make a difference in my limited testing) gets around 14000 nonces a minute, which clocks out to a bit over 200GB an hour, or around 4.6TB/day.

I put up a buy order for 200 sats.  It doesn't look like I'm going to get lucky.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's based off of market caps. With our current supply of 5941 blocks * 10000 coins per block  = 59410000 BURST, at at a current price of 0.00000256BTC (256 satoshis) and BTC at $513.60, the current market cap is around $78100. At a price of 3k sats (0.00003000) if BTC stays the same, the market cap today would be around $915389, or close to a million. However, keep in mind 3.6 million coins enter the ecosystem daily, so at a price of 3k sats, the market cap would be increasing by around $55468 per day, whereas at a price of 256 sats (current), the market cap is only growing by $4733 per day.

Who knows what the market cap will be when, but it's a good tool to approximate prices based on personal assumptions.

From calculating market cap vs coins at the time of the bubble.

At 2k sat, the market cap will be between 800,000-1 million. (1 million would be assuming there are 100 million coins at that time)

Being the first HDD coin, you can expect growth similar to LTC or DRK.

We will be in top 10 market cap by end of the year, as long as no crazy premine or something happens.

I never really looked at it like that. Makes sense though

It has a new tech like LTC and DRK. So as long as the Dev doesn't have some ridiculous plan to kill his work there will be a MASSIVE upswing

Really amazing.

I'm getting an error when running run_generate:

Any ideas?  I've tried lowering the amount of memory down to 500m, didn't do anything different than the 1000m I have it at now. Sad

With a stagger size of 8191 you need a lot more than 1000m. Either increase it to ~6000m or lower the stagger size.
