well, it looks like the idea of doing a rollback is not catching on with forgers, so the show is over, you can all go back to your usual daily business )
"In a nutshell, the network works like a distributed timestamp server, stamping the first transaction to spend a coin. It takes advantage of the nature of information being easy to spread but hard to stifle." -- Satoshi

Why did Bter send the other 90 BTC to the hacker after he said the deal was off?!

That was insane.

Sounds about right. Local financial interests get trumped by the most hallowed principle of cryptocurrency. No rollbacks.

Of more local concern (to me) is that BTER are still 'processing' my hasty BTC withdrawal some 3 hours later.

Ideally rollbacks, chargebacks, transaction malleability, chalk and blackboard blockchain, or whatever we want to call it, shouldn't even have the option of being discussed. Should be impossible or as close as we can get.

Maybe they thought they were fighting for exchange survival and took an all or nothing shot. Read somewhere guy was talking about how "we can't afford this" or something.

I withdrew my Cryptonite and it worked very quickly but no confirmations yet. I think BTER will pull through, just did it out of curiosity. Also good to know if there's a chance for any escape valves for the next time Wink .
Didn't try BTC but doubt it's working yet.

I seen something has changed in the control panel, the next withdrawl and the deposit was made available, did anyone else see that?

Because BTER admitted it immediately, stating a weak old password with no 2FA as the reason and claiming accountability.

We have decided not to rollback but get the stolen funds back from the hacker since we have got lots of information of him

Did they look in the mirror to get that info?

roll it back already!!!

Those who want NXT to fail want exactly that - rollback. Forgers are voting against this with their forging power. The only legitimate case in a crypto currency to rewrite the blockchain is a software bug. Just like in Bitcoin. Period.

Now we will see if NXT is decentralized or not Smiley

rollback = centralized

This ^.

I think it is so funny how coins like Vericoin and now NXT tout themselves as a "DECENTRALIZED" currency. But when a large hack occurs ... "oops can we just roll back the chain this one time?"

lol
