I wonder if that is a regular sized piece of moon rock or the crushed slightly larger sized piece for a 2btc bar. A suite set is going to look nice in some of those floating frames.

What happens to the prototype? Any chance of a charity auction for it?

It doesn't look like a crusted piece to me.

I assume 'CR' stands for 'crusted'. I wonder what 'EC' stands for. Those pieces look slightly bigger compared to the regular pieces.

I picked up a smaller piece just to compare. I am not sure the difference with the crushed version.

Very nice Pistachio, I was thinking about doing that as well.  If you don't mind sharing, where did you happen to pick it up?

Interesting. I just found this seller on ebay whose pictures look a lot like Max's, but IDK, maybe that's standard (?) ...  http://www.ebay.com/sch/ancientechoesartifacts/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=

The eBay seller you linked to is the curator of NWA5000. He is now semi-retired, but used to be an officer on the board of directors for the International Meteorite Collectors Association. Feel free to message him if you have any questions, he's a pleasant dude.

I sourced my specimens from him. The large crusted pieces in my photos are $2k - $4k slabs, and are being cut into smaller pieces using a diamond band saw.

I have been working to cut out interesting sections for inclusion in the bars, and imagine I might end up with some leftover scraps that I will either sell or incorporate into something else.

and thanks for the comments guys, I'm doing everything in my power to get these finished and shipped. I'm at the mercy of my supplier and this project is taking longer than I was initially quoted. All I can promise is that I will deliver in time, and that I'll continue to keep you informed as I go.

I understand he is seeking perfection but honestly the current hologram and appearance of the obverse looks fine to me.

Agreed. There is also the concern it could look crowded if the window is made too small.

Good eye. However, I don't think that's what he means. It looks to me that those two circles were intentionally offset. Here's an illustration showing the two circles. You'll see that the square window is perfectly centered in the larger blue circle.

I think he simply wishes to make the square window a tiny bit smaller (but still in the same basic place).

Regards,
Chris

hey everyone,

owlcatz BitcoinPenny is right, the circles are offset by design. My main issue is the square window doesn't meet the edge of the black square with key on it - and the reason I'm considering having them reproduced is because I may be able to have them in hand before the steel housings ship to me. So it wouldn't really delay anything further.

Also the square window in more than half of the holograms is offset enough that they are unusable. I ordered several thousand so I have plenty of good ones, but it's bad enough that I feel somewhat entitled to replacements to begin with, and the manufacturer seems to agree. Just waiting to hear back on their solution.

If it turns out it would delay things any further, I'll probably just stick with these. Hope to have word soon, and I plan to check in on the housings again next week... at a certain point pestering them does more harm than good. They had to resort to some pretty weird methods to manufacture the sliding clips. https://i.imgur.com/MLrNRcB.jpg
