Since pools are getting hit hard I'm mining locally, but since I only have 1GH it would take weeks to get a block. How can I make sure my setup is mining properly?

if it connects and hashes then it works, just make sure your bitcoind got port 8332/8333 open to the internet for maximum nodes.

At 1gh locally it may be wait a few months or a year.

Your best bet is to use p2pool if you want to "solo" or pick a smaller PPS pool that is unlikely to get hit by a ddos.

P2Pool is your friend. That is one of the reasons they created it, protection from DDoS.

Pools are getting hit hard? What do you mean? My pool hasn't been "hit" in any significant way for months. It's hard to see how any disadvantage from pools being hit could be greater than the disadvantages of solo mining at 1 Gh/s (one being the difficulty you are having now - is it even working?).

Multible pools like Deepbit and BTC Guild are under DDoS threats and attacks.

The sun rose in the east today, too. Shocking, huh? That's why many of us have signed up with a wide variety of pools.

I should solve a block in 2.5 months... not so bad as long as I know it's working... amazing there is no clear way of making sure, like a green light in the GUI!? Also if there was a C/C++ or Java implementation of p2pool I would definitely use that!

The problem with that is the difficulty has a tendency to rise over time so by the time 2.5 months is up, the estimate may be 5 months... it really is a lousy idea solo mining with less than 100GH.

Ok, I'm back on deepbit, hope it will work now. :/
