Group Buy terms: - Deadline is 28 December 23:55 CET; - The minimum number of units required for this Group Buy is 200 units; - Minimum number of units per buyer is 2 units! ...
*The reservation fee is non-refundable even if we don't meet the required number of units. You're committing to send full payment when you place your reservation and after you get payment details from Spondoolies Tech.
So, if the GB doesn't reach 200 units, are you just pocketing the reservation fees?

So, if the GB doesn't reach 200 units, are you just pocketing the reservation fees? some of it should go to good causes, as was done previously. That's a silly way of doing it. For example, I might be interested in a few units, but I wouldn't put in an order until I see at least BTC4 in that wallet. If you get enough self-interested people waiting, you could end up with demand for a few hundred units but no one buying because they don't want to lose a deposit on a failed group buy. The deposit should be non-refundable if the GB goes ahead, and refunded if it does not.

Sorry, that's still not very clear. Are you saying that you will keep 40% and donate 60% for people who do not follow through with orders in the event that the group buy does go ahead, but that you will refund the reservation fees if the GB fails to reach 200 units?

then I will be forced to admit defeat haha it is a great deal though. I am torn between the SP20's and S5 at this point, that is my only hesitation. I know SP quality is there and I have been happy with BMT products so far but I am unsure of the S5 design... decisions decisions.

how stable are they underclocked that low though? the S5 would have about the same efficiency for about $90 less, shipping included. Current rate with shipping included for 2 units from BMT website 2.769 BTC ( 910.658 USD ) EDIT: assuming the S5 are stable to begin with haha

I bought 2 previous through Holiday deal and reserved 2 more in this GB, I can tell you once you get one in your hands you will want more. I have S2's, S3's, S3+'s, S4's and Tubes and hands down the design and build alone of the SP20 is heads above anything else currently out there (haven't seen a S5 yet). You won't go wrong with this GB.

Thanks for setting this up guys. (RS and Spondoolies) I've recently made the decision to move from one supplier over to SP-Tech having sampled the water with the SP10 a while back and recently an SP20. For a while now I've been contemplating the best way to transition, and then this offer came up and solved my dilemma in split second.
So...just wanted to say that it's nice to see a company this responsive to its customers...and vice versa.

True, quicker than I thought too ... but when you do the maths for the flexibility of over and under clocking, the SP20 wins hands down. Along with their 'legendary' customer service, you just somehow feel more reassured about things.

So I must be doing something wrong.
I can give you $1000 and get 2 SP20s in a few days that maybe will get me $1000 in BTC back in roughly 105(ish) days time barring large swings in price/diff and cheap power.
-OR-
I can go buy $1000 worth of BTC right now which gives me almost 3 of them... again, right now.
All I see is the risk and not the payout. What exactly am I missing. What are you gambling on?

So I must be doing something wrong.
I can give you $1000 and get 2 SP20s in a few days that maybe will get me $1000 in BTC back in roughly 105(ish) days time barring large swings in price/diff and cheap power.
-OR-
I can go buy $1000 worth of BTC right now which gives me almost 3 of them... again, right now.
All I see is the risk and not the payout. What exactly am I missing. What are you gambling on?
some, like the OP who got 30, will sell on ebay, amazon for $750-800. the count is actually at 146 units right now and someone even gave extra 0.001 BTC (paid 0.041) must be raskul

the usual stuff about buying btc vs buying miners * raskul yawwwwwns it'd be a pretty boring world if we were all just like you huh? You stole my line "If all the people would be the same, the place would be a boring world" Its not to say I am not a gambler but anything over 3 months payback is a no go for me. That was a hard lesson learned.
Different situations. Don't judge by the past when we were having +15% difficulty increase all the time. Now the difficulty stopped and even if it will go up it will go much slower than before. People are also using these miners as feet/room warmers so some may have different personal reasons that are different from yours.

Now, my electric is not quite as cheap as his but i'm good til ~90bil. After that, i'll dig em out in winter every year.

~0.5W/GH - 0.295$/GH
It's too bad you had to resort to deceitful advertising. This was a good deal without fudging the numbers. You cannot get .5 J/GH and $.295/GH. If you run this at .5 J/GH you will be paying over $.6/GH.

What was the ROI in fiat from HODL'ers who invested a year ago? I'd say miners fared better than HODL'ers in the past 12 months...

You get the most fiat by having the most bitcoins. Always calculate your ROI in bitcoins.

I don't know if I'd take that bet. After the S-1, most miners wouldn't mine more btc than what it orig cost in btc to purchase them after power costs. Now buying hardware, mining and then selling hardware and replace with newer equipment definitely made money.

You should always calculate your ROI based on BTC, even if you paid in fait for your miner. If you paid in fiat and if you hypothetically did not buy your miner then you could have purchased bitcoin. This is especially true considering how both the price of bitcoin and the difficulty increased last year for all the people who got suckered into buying preorders

Currently, only wire transfer or Bitcoins via BitPay. Anyone can participate. The GB is run by the legendary RoadStress, hence the name.

Don't forget also that payment is to be made directly to SP-Tech off of their website not in a PM / PM'd address. I believe that was part of the OP. Edit* Forgot to mention also there is no deposit for the GB, there is a reservation fee but that isn't applied to the cost of the unit. Scammer didn't do a good job reading first or is hoping for someone to not have read and to send them the BTC.

You don't. 60% will be donated, 40% will go to RoadStress as payment for organizing.

you don't... the reservation fee doesn't apply to purchase price. its just that, a reservation to be able to purchase at a certain price point

yes it is cost of the miner is $500 if you pay the reservation fee to be eligible to purchase at that price haha It would be nice to get a little extra off with the fee though

Sigh... I really want to, but I just can't. Even with the low prices it just doesn't make sense. Curse my expensive power. But there is nothing available right now with a better power consumption. And nothing with a lower price. You just can't get anything better than this.

Well, the S5 does actually have better efficiency (if they hit their 0.51J/GH at the wall spec) unless you downclock the unit to ~1TH/s, at which point it's more expensive per GH/s than the S5. I won't get into that debate here though, as I actually do like the SP20 more. I can only mine profitably at the current price of BTC until about 90B difficulty though, and I really have to massage the numbers to come up with a scenario where difficulty doesn't at least double before I pay off even a $500 (and $7 ) purchase price.

In a sense I agree but without RoadStress setting the GB up and most of us submitting a reservation fee then we wouldn't have access to this opportunity at all

So now that the product page has been posted, when is payment deadline? Because I didn't think this would be posted until the 28th. I'm not at home with access to my BTC wallet until after Christmas.

I also never said you'd get the S5 before the SP20, or that the S5 would be more profitable. Both those have too many factors to state absolutely. While I haven't actually attempted the math for a couple different difficulty curves, I would imagine running the SP20 full out now and downclocking it in response to difficulty would make it decently more profitable than the S5 almost all the time. That doesn't change the fact that the spec of S5 is more efficient than the SP20, unless you underclock the SP20 to below the hashrate of the S5. I even gave you the caveat that they have to meet their spec for that to happen.

Anyway, I don't know how he could have made it more clear: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=903286.msg9925806#msg9925806I wasn't part of RoadStress's previous group buys. Again, I know it's probably pedantic, but when I said Sorry, that's still not very clear. Are you saying that you will keep 40% and donate 60% for people who do not follow through with orders in the event that the group buy does go ahead, but that you will refund the reservation fees if the GB fails to reach 200 units? it would have been pretty simple to say "No, the fee is not for people who do not follow through with orders, it is for all orders" or just "No" Instead he basically just echoed what I said but removed the part that would make the .02 a deposit as opposed to a fee. I really don't have a problem with the idea of the fee, but you shouldn't advertise the units as $500 shipping included since no one (who isn't cheating) can buy them for that price. It's not even like it's a one time fee that will asymptotically approach $500 if you buy enough. Each unit costs $506.50. Pedantic? Maybe. It's similar to advertising 0.5W/GH - 0.295$/GH though. It's intentionally misleading as it implies you can have both those things at the same time. You can argue that it's never claimed that both numbers are valid at the same time, but it still comes off as slimy and really the product is good enough that you don't need to resort to tricks like that.

It is in the OP. Read it again please and let's stop this reservation fee madness. This GB has the same rules as my past GBs and nobody complained so I don't understand why the beef right now. The list will be forwarded to Spoondolies Tech so that you can arrange payment afterwards. Please note that the prices are in addition to the reservation fee! I can only mine profitably at the current price of BTC until about 90B difficulty though, and I really have to massage the numbers to come up with a scenario where difficulty doesn't at least double before I pay off even a $500 (and $7 ) purchase price. $4.2 will go towards cgminer and Armory as usual (since nobody proposed anything) and $2.8 will go in my pocket for my time organizing this. Yes I do value my time the same as you value yours. Luckily you can directly order now without paying the reservation fee so Santa came earlier for you this year. Happy hashing!

LOL... No. I'll still pay the fee if I do order a couple. After all, it's not a surprise now what the cost will be. It was never a surprise. You didn't fully read the OP. Was the following line Please note that the prices are in addition to the reservation fee! In the original post made on the 23rd or added in an edit? That was in the original post. I have no problem in admitting what I add, edit or delete, but this isn't the case.

No problem. Will try to make it more obvious next GB. Thanks. I might have just been in a bad mood; I was installing QT on a fresh machine today for my active wallet so I got to watch my BTC total rise and rise until I decided it was time to cash out my $10k worth of Bitcoin a little over 2 years ago to pay off a car since it had just surged up to $14 each. Makes me grumpy every time that happens.

I've mostly come to terms with it, other than when my wife reminds me that I should have saved it and sold it at $1200. At least it wasn't a BTC10k pizza.

If anyone is in the UK/EU and wants to order just one unit, I am happy to help if Roadstress/Spondoolies doesn't mind, I can order two and send one on to you.
If I get charged VAT then you'll have to pay that, shipping from me to you in the UK will be under £8 door to door or £6 if you can get to a UPS pickup point. Europe at cost and I will only pass on shipping expense at cost. PM me if interested. Note: This is just if you are after a single device, anyone who wants more than one just buy them on their own. P.S. don't forget to send your donation to RoadStress for the sale. (See OP)

I am hoping they sell out soon. But I am hoping this since I have 10 and can't run more then that. Also I don't want the sp20 to be like the gridseed blade started at 3000 usd ended at 100 usd. One fear I have is sp20's drop to 300 usd and s-5's drop to 250 usd fast really fast. I prefer a slower pace for drops.

I think some sort of bottom price will be found soon. On the reseller market these should maintain competitiveness with the S5 for quite a while even though the S5 is slightly more efficient. I don't know about you guys but I for one would love it if they lowered the price on the SP35s as well to be almost price competitive with the SP20s (I understand that the PSUs in the SP35 add an additional cost that is likely approaching almost the cost of a standalone sp20). Hmm, SP20s at 300 I'll go for that

How long does the shipping from Israel to Texas usually take? Place my order at 2am Central and got the shipping notification already before 10am this morning. I am just a little bit anxious to play with them lol. Haven't had anymore miners since May so should be fun just to play with this time.

How long does the shipping from Israel to Texas usually take? Place my order at 2am Central and got the shipping notification already before 10am this morning. I am just a little bit anxious to play with them lol. Haven't had anymore miners since May so should be fun just to play with this time. they are fast. you get them on monday. if it was not for christmas I would say sat .

If I could get another $1000 worth of BTC I'd buy 2 more. I am glad I sold all of mine when I did, but of course now the ability not to purchase it instantly has me stopped LOL!

Buyer's check your email from SPT, if DHL is the shipper I think you have to complete the Power of Attorney and send back to DHL. Not !00% as previous orders were with UPS and no additional paperwork was needed. Sent mine back to be on safe side.

Got my shipping notification and submitted the DHL customs forms. Will be replacing a couple A1 rigs Whee ! Damn! is that in the email? Perhaps only for the DHL shipping option - It's what I chose as I've found it's the timeliest solution for delivery to the USA. Having said that, I've never had to fill out one of these forms before when receiving via DHL.

Never in past and don't expect this time. Appeared the form just gives them the right to act as your agent with customs.

REMEMBER EVERYONE YOU HAVE TO ORDER A MINIMUM OF TWO!
+1! Don't forget about this everyone that is new here. Looks like they have changed the web page now, so it forces a minimum of 2 That being said if you want one of these great miners but can't stretch to two for some reason, then my offer still stands: If anyone is in the UK/EU and wants to order just one unit, I am happy to help if Roadstress/Spondoolies doesn't mind, I can order two and send one on to you.
(See OP)

I can confirm that I also received the papers from DHL to fill out but have not done so and DHL shows my package in Cinni, OH. and states "Unless there is an adhoc exam or a stop by another regulatory authority the shipment will proceed to delivery"
So It does look like the forms are not needed. I will update in the event something changes.

Looks like they have changed the web page now, so it forces a minimum of 2 Smiley It was always MOQ 2 pieces! no when the special link first went live it let you order single units. A few people got caught like that. The changed the MON on the site and put a nice red sign saying min 2 items and that anyone who had ordered one would have their order canceled.

DHL may charge a processing fee for clearing it in customs, but that's normally only for larger shipments otherwise in the US its considered tax free.

Sometimes they request more documents (e.g. as proof of Tax ID) Usually a PoA is required by the shipper not the receiver, it gives DHL or the carrier permission on behalf of the shipper that DHL is acting in the shippers interest to get the package to the receiver. Our DHL rep said to just ignore them (at least ones sent to us).

Well, now that we published the link, you can "cheat" and buy direct, as long as the GB run. It's unfair towards RoadStress.
Also, it's both disappointing, having sent my reservation fee, and unprofessional... We do expect future participants to pay the reservation fee. From past experience, once the link was up, there were some people that didn't. RoadStress selected small, but meaningful reservation fee, a bit more than half percent, on purpose. I'm in for six, reservation sent! TXID: d0958cd05748bf9df3374756b8ed11e3ad3cc723dbe4e71996019896e5f93ae3

stop being dumb. Roadstress was approved by SP-T and simply acted to co-ordinate an MOQ=200 to achieve a special price by spondoolies for anyone smart enough to not buy at website price. I paid roadstress his small fee and ordered via the SP-T website. all legit with a tracking number already. ps: does the reservation fee effect anyone who knows the SP-T site link? not sure what stops someone paying the fee for 2 (if any) units and ordering 20 from SPT

Looks like my order went through italy and UK on its route to canada S5 will be in my hands first thing tomorrow morning, and hopefully the Sp20 units will arrive in the afternoon or wednesday! Looking forwards to playing with both and choosing a winner (SP20 looks like a winner on technical prowess, but the S5 may be cheaper to build

This was probably the easiest, quickest ASIC purchase I have ever made.

First 2 showed up this afternoon. Plugged in and hashing within 10 minutes... Both running at ~1300Ghs each (.62v @ 180W) fans on 20 in the garage ... VERY impressed so far. Two more tomorrow (or Wednesday) are supposed to be delivered. Tomorrow ordering my final pair when Coinbase comes through with my btc. Now I need to move the first set of 4 to our shop where my 120A worth of 240V twistlock plugs and PDU's are. Def. nice having 2.6TH/s currently running at ~1000w (on 110) compared to running 2TH/s at 2000-2100W. EDIT** Looking back at it in April/May I had 19-20TH/s running and it took almost 85A of power to do that with Dragons, FrankenJups, etc... So much power

Transaction fees go to the pools and the pools decide to pay them to the miners. Anything else, including off-chain solutions are stealing and not the way Bitcoin was intended to function. Make the block size set by the pool. Pool = miners and they get the choice.

I am picking up a couple of these and will of course shoot some coin to Mr. Roadstress. In checking out at spoondoolies using BTC it seems to want to open a local btc client on my PC. Is that normal? Like it is trying to open my bitcoin core wallet? My coin isn't there anyway, I am moving it online from cold storage
The check-out system uses a "bitcoin:" link, which many wallets associate with on Windows and Mac OS machines. It's normal, but please exercise caution and check to make sure the addresses are correct and add up! Cheers.

ahhh file association, I should have realized it, just very nervous about phishing attempts. I didn't transfer enough in, well I did, but then the price changed and I didn't have enough so start over haha. The bitcoin confirmations seem to take too long. The beta version addresses that though I thought I read. v10.x?
and my order is confirmed. Thanks guys for all of you who allowed me to get on the caboose of this train and order a couple. I feel like I am getting closer, now to work on my power bill haha.

Did DHL lose them? Mine are suppose to arrive on Friday--they've cleared customs in Cincinnati already.

Crazyguy you are Dallas or Austin right? Either way with DHL I had 2 units delivered on Monday (Ordered on Christmas "Morning" (2am)), two units came in yesterday that I ordered on Sunday. I have 4 more coming in on Monday that I ordered late Tuesday night. Did you receive any shipping info because 2 weeks ago would have been a Fedex or UPS shipment correct since I think that was the only option to the states.

I paid on 12/18 and my units were shipped on 12/23. They spent some time with customs in Tel Aviv, then customs in Cincinatti. They made it to Dallas Monday, but my delivery driver decided to take them off the truck and delay delivery for Tuesday. Someone else at the distribution hub then accidentally sent them back to Cincinnati, where they sit on hold right now. Due to the holidays, I don't expect to receive anything until next week. DHL has done this to me before and I have lost confidence in their US operations.

Yesterday honestly I was expecting the same. I've had decent luck with them (knocking on wood). Now I have had Fedex do this multiple times since I live in a gated neighborhood (but what came down to it every time was just driver (same one the Overnight driver) wanting off early (so he can write off an entire neighborhood)). Either way it sucks so hopefully they get their stuff right and actually deliver to you this time!

DHL lazy attitude: I had two GB units delivered on Tue, BUT DHL had them on Monday 7:30am, but decided NOT to put on the trunk because the delivery date was Tue (12/30). The driver told me that they do it routinely. How inconsiderate is this? EDIT: I am also in Houston and also in a gated neighborhood, same problems with FEDEX, etc trucks

EDIT: I am also in Houston and also in a gated neighborhood, same problems with FEDEX, etc trucks That is the norm for all carriers, early delivery is an exception and most times the general rule is to not deliver early.. In some cases it's obvious it's silly if the circumstances are right but overall it's a logistics issue if package handlers make unilateral decisions like that..

Agreed, delivery companies can be troublesome at times, however ...
My GB SP20s were shown to be delivered on Wednesday by DHL (UK) website, and they REALLY surprised me and delivered a day early on Tuesday.
Not happened before and probably won't again ...

Yeah I got "lucky" mine said Tuesday delivery as well but I had been going back and fourth on the hole Export document. I got an email at 8am from the lady that said it was being delivered on that day (Monday), but I got the text notification that I had a delivery scheduled Tuesday that night (after I already had gotten the packages). Yeah the FedEx overnight guy in Friendswood I think does it on purpose when it's something I need LOL! Usually its a car part that I needed that day for one of our cars lol!

The DHL site wouldn't give me an estimated date. However it showed up 2 days after shipped around the world. I also don't recall seeing a way to pick shipping methods on this bundle. Lastly.. UPS seems to have taken 12/31 off here. I had a package coming from NewEgg that showed arriving at the local drop the night of 12/30. And there it sat all day. Usually UPS is pretty good, so who knows. M

Thanks for the GB Roadstress. I had held off buying SP equipment because of the combined equipment and delivery cost. But this deal makes it all worth it and is the best available from any manufacturer right now. Bought 3. My only regret is I have to ship them right to my out of state hosting location. Can't deal with the sound in the office. Thank you SP for a deal that makes sense!

Thanks again for the GB. Just grabbed another 4 units. Not sure where I'll stick them yet, but these last few days have shown me that these are quality units and the SP-T support folks really put forth an effort to help.
Quick question: When the ASIC tab shows its using 890 watts, do I need to divide that by .8 to get an approximation at the wall assuming 80% efficient PSU?
I don't know how it's doing it, but at stock with 2 Corsair HX850, one unit is running 1683 @ 890w. Seems pretty good to me and close enough to 1.7T.

No the PSU is only delivering 80% of what its pulling from the wall to give you 890Watts, its closer to 1120W at the wall

Mine are also apparently stuck in customs in Cincinnati. I suppose there is nothing we can do about it but wait.

I noticed SP-T lowered the price of the 15 & 3 pack to less than the GB. Can I get a little love thrown back my way since my order for 4 hasn't been filled yet?

Just wanted to make sure. divide by 0.92 to get a more accurate at-the-wall I haven't found the ~0.9 divisor to be accurate. I used 0.9 to estimate running two SP20's off one EVGA 1600 G2. The ASIC Stats page showed ~620W each—and they ran, though one took a few tries to boot. Then I bought a Kill-A-Watt - and what I calculated (1240/0.9) to be 1378 at the wall, actually measured 1620 (120V). I now run 3 SP20's off of two 1600's and like the increased headroom, but have since been pairing new SP20's with 1300W G2's, which I find the best bang for the buck.

I outfitted my house with some 240V circuits last year and run all of my PSUs off of those circuits, nets me over 10% in power savings.. I haven't found the ~0.9 divisor to be accurate. Ah, so I might have had that 0.9 'efficiency' powering only one unit, but I lost efficiency as the load increased with the second SP20 - netting me closer to the rated 0.8? Got it, good to know, thank you!

For something like the EVGA 1300W PSU, tests show it getting ~91% at 50% load and 87.5% at full load. 3.5 percentage points is still a decent drop, but nothing like 10%.

You're right, I looked up the 80 Plus spec, 80 Plus Gold is 90% @ 50% load, and 87% @ 100% on 115V. So the difference in wattage reported on the ASIC Stats page versus ATW is not PSU, or not solely, but a mix of PSU and miner 'other'? I'll have to do some more kill-a-watt testing...
