so nice that we take part in the approval of the logo. I'm proud of it!!
There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

QUICK UPDATE

1. Logo done Smiley
2. New website underway
3. Kobocoin v2.1.0.3 is now stable and has a 'releases' page for reliable downloads - https://github.com/kobocoin/Kobocoin/releases/tag/v2.1.0.3-stable
4. Kobocoin v2.1.0.3 has a Dockerfile for easy installation for businesses/merchants - https://github.com/kobocoin/dockerfiles/tree/master/v2103-stable
5. We now have a github repo for all Dockerfiles created for kobo services - https://github.com/kobocoin/dockerfiles
6. We now have a Docker hub repo for easy pull requests - https://hub.docker.com/u/kobocoin/
7. Mobile wallet upgrade is in progress
8. Koboseeder (a DNS seeder that will help secure the network even further) is now on github - https://github.com/kobocoin/koboseeder

Dockerfiles is import (imo). All organisations I know are moving to containerised services and It allows us to create modular services. This will allow interested parties to quickly and reliably build any kobo services e.g:
  • Minimal build with Kobocoind only
  • Full node with DNS seeder
  • Full node with Apache, Insight Explorer, and Node.js
  • Full node with Electrum server

All these features will be highlighted on the new website.

It's tempting to get straight into the upgrading of the code but I want to lay a proper foundation for all work carried out from now on. That's why enabling all these repos is important

TT Smiley

NB - I've let YoBit know about the new stable source code release on github. Let's see if withdrawals is enabled before I get my hacked account back. Both are a joke, I know!

Stunning update Felix and thanks for answering all my previous questions and clarifying, have nothing to add to that.

It is great to see your github get going again, tbh I have never heard of containers which shows my software weaknesses and thinking this may be over my head, but none the less, will attempt some newbie questions which I hope are not too obvious, please. Grin

1) which block explorer and version does kobocoin currently use?
2) If I want to experiment with the explorer, do I bring in a snap shot of the blockchain or is it an active version, and if so does this mean running 2 containers at once?
3) is the mobile wallet in a container that simulates the android OS and emulates it, is that kind of how it works?

A possible idea for the stake holders supporting the network, is it possible to stake the coins without putting them at risk on a remote server like what a masternode would do? Otherwise the coins are always at risk and this would reduce incentive and number of nodes.

Regards and TIA.

No problem. There's just a lot going on and not enough hours in the day at this point.

1) At the moment I've opted to use a third party explorer so there's no versioning involved - https://chainz.cryptoid.info/kobo/ (unless you mean something else? I'll be creating a block explorer for the new site. I'm hoping to use the insight open source code for that.
2) I'm not 100% sure what you mean. There's no real explorer. It's some thing that you can build. There is abe (nightmare and a half) or you can alter an open source explorer (e.g. Insight) which I'm hoping to do soon.
3) The mobile wallet runs on Android only (or in an android virtual device in a development environment). It comes as an APK file that is installed directly onto the Android OS. The container side of things will not include Android as that's not how containers work at this point in time.

Masternodes is good, but I personally like the idea of kobo users having their wallet unlocked on their desktop and staking to receive rewards. In some ways (and this may be heresy to some), I consider PoS a form of CPU mining (don't all shout at once!). It's also safer than having a  VPS masternode out there for anybody to attempt to break.

That being said, I will be looking at how to alter the code (hopefully without hardforking) to allow some form of masternode concept for those who want to do some serious staking for extra reward.

Apologies for the delay, and hope that helps.

QUICK UPDATE

The new website template is almost done. I think it's an improvement. There's a lot to it but this is how the mockup looks so far. The very top blue bar in the shot below will have market details (price in USD/BTC/ETH and other African currencies) listed as well as the social icons. The image in the mockup is from the old website. The new website will have new, targeted and brighter images (so don't get hung up on the dark Shanghai image in the mockup below). I've already seen the newer images and they're a whole lot better.

And below is what it looks like when it's scrolling. As you can see, the header is static and the blue top bar disappears (it's all the rage Cheesy)

It also looks good on mobiles. It's a wordpress responsive site.

There's so much going on behind the scenes right now but I'll leave it at this for now. There will be a forum as well as not many people outside of the industry know of BitcoinTalk. I think it would be a great way for new users to get immediately immersed in kobo.

BTW - I am now being contacted by the largest African Banks offering Kobocoin a bank account AND access to their global networks to operate on. I'm not sure one is needed right now but it's a definite sign that people are very aware of kobocoin's potential in the market.

I'll post a dev URL when I've installed it on our main servers. It will be a beta site so we can decide what works and what doesn't (just as we did with the logo).

ALSO

The new website will be SSL and have a trusted green bar.

And here's an example of what can be done for a forum. It can be given the new website colour scheme very easily. Give it a visit. Post something if you want. It's flexible enough for me to carry out KYC on anybody who wants to buy/sell KOBO on the forum. BUY/SELL category can even be broken down into individual nations (or even cities) if required.

There's even an IM feature (bottom right hand side of the forum - see screenshot), so you can have real-time one-to-one chats (great for buy/sell opportunities). If people are really interested in buying and selling on the forum I may even offer an escrow service to mitigate scammers.

Decided to change the theme. As I said colours and layout can be completely customised for our needs. I like the functionality of this theme.

Felix,

I love the initial forum layout, thats just what I was hoping you would do, will post mostly there from now on Grin
Glad you said that about abe explorer, it was only explorer that I knew, will look into Insight explorer, you saved me wasting time on abe, thanks.
I don't see why a VPS masternode is unsafe, because the coins are validated in a kind of hot/cold storage wallet, they are not in the same place?

The comment about African banks is important, I heard Cryptopia are getting flak for accepting the NZ dollar for their virtual tether NZ(account suspension imminent). If you get the banks on board thats a major step.

Regards with added excitement,

MammothK

wht is the max supply of this coin?

Current Supply = 24,700,000
Max Supply = 350,000,000
Max Growth = 10% per annum

...About the 10% PoS and 350,000,000 Total coins, not that sure about it.
We need the 10% stake to increase the interest in the coin while it's being adopted by the real users, but you don't want 10% inflation every year.
I mean, with a total 350M coins it will take more than 25 years to achieve it (maths down below) while 100M coins will take almost 15year.
I think in 15 years this coin is gonna be used by the people it's focused on, so no need to have another 10years of 10% pos.
25.000.000
27.500.000
...
297.954.413
327.749.855

Hi,
I agree with your numbers as a theoretical maximum using 10% but the real life empirically based rate of inflation is more like 1% per year due to the fact that not many people are stake mining, hence the 10% is never realized, in fact based on most of blocks produced during January, the figure is only 1.134%  [24,910,596 - 24,888,934.  Over the last 28 days exactly]
Here are my numbers based on the actual kobocoin explorer data.

Using compound interest of 1.134% per annum:-
January 2018: 24,910,596
January 2019: 25,193,108
January 2020: 25,478,825
January 2021: 25.767,782
January 2022: 26,060,017
January 2023: 26,355,565
January 2024: 26,654,466
January 2025: 26,956,756
January 2026: 27,262,474
January 2027: 27,571,660
January 2028: 27,884,352
January 2029: 28,200,590
January 2030: 28,520,415
January 2031: 28,843,867
January 2032: 29,170,988
January 2033: 29,501,818

So in 15 years there are only 4,591,222 Kobocoin produced, this is not much of an increase(+18.43%), so here we have a promising coin that gives a healthy 10% yield through stake mining via simple wallet activation but does not get devalued from too much dumping onto the market by potential commercial stake holding miners.
1 dollar per day income crypto equivalent is easy to obtain even at these prices.

With 10% compound interest per annum return and little downward market pressure, I would say this is a good coin to stake hold mine, and 'coin age' or amount is not important, meaning only 10 kobocoin will still give an income of 1 kobocoin per year just by switching the wallet on once or twice per week throughout the year, and moving coins from wallet to wallet makes little difference to overall return (some stake coins need to be aged for 1 month before they become viable, and this reduces liquidity).
And there are not many coins in total issuance currently, many have over 1 billion giving a potentially false high coinmarketcap value...

Absolutely! Thanks for the analysis. The kobocoin blockchain will still be emitting kobo long after I've left this world (unless newer tech has replaced blockchain). The parameters were chosen for longevity of the currency. Of course I want people to make some returns but the currency has to operate properly well into the future (or at least until something better comes along).

I would have given you some merit but they're all gone! I'll hit you up when/if I get more allocation.

The large-scale infrastructure developed by Kobocoin can be comparable to the larger and more important digital currencies, providing a highly secure and stable platform for everyone.

I love that track. Thanks for that. It really gets under your skin (in a really good way). RIP William Onyeabor

BTW - It's a very small thing, but we're now SSL. The website has been moved to completely new and much larger cloud servers ready for a few more services I'm hoping to put on there. It was a killer weekend but it's all done now.

Thanks. That's what's being aimed for. The aim is for Kobocoin to be a different beast by the end of the year.
