I think we're all aware of the hack now. I guess we wait for announcements.

There are no extra transactions in kobocoin blockchain at the time of the hack, think have to be relieved about that because they took more than first appeared and it can be a coin killer if they get hold of a majority share, some never recover from that.

Can remember when Cryptsy got hit, Big Vern said that the way they did it was inserting a few lines of code in the github source code for a coin update, and slipped in that way, hard or impossible to stop if you're accept lots of coins because its unlikely the exchange will be checking over thousands of lines of code for something that is designed not to set off the virus scanners.

UPDATE:

Golix Exchange Listing Now Live.

I've just logged into https://golix.com and can confirm that the following exchange listings are now live:

KOBO/BTC
KOBO/ETH
KOBO/ZAR (South African Rand)

ZAR (South African Rand) was chosen as the initial fiat market as it is Golix's largest market.

I tested a deposit using the Coinomi mobile wallet. It took about the time it took me to refresh the Golix wallet page for the unconfirmed transaction to show up. Very impressive (but yeah, we have negligible transactions - still nice to see it's working, and working fast!).

With Crytptopia's problems I think we can all be very thankful that the new Golix listings are now live. That's also very good news on the KOBO blockchain not being compromised by the Cryptopia hack. They were probably after BTC and ETH. Hopefully Cryptopia will be back early Feb, as expected, with all our KOBO wallets intact.

I'm still in the process of trying to get the code update started. It is not a trivial process and can't be done by just anyone so please bear with me. Once completed, the Kobocoin blockchain will then follow core Bitcoin development with all core Bitcoin updates being applied to Kobocoin. It makes things a lot more efficient. If a time comes where bespoke additions need to be added to the blockchain, then I'll first look into how a sidechain can be utilised before considering moving Kobocoin away from core Bitcoin development. I think their development team is better than my team!

I've also uploaded the dev site to live - https://kobocoin.com/. There's still a lot to do, but getting it out there allows me to see where it needs to be improved and updated. ...and the old site was looking a bit too old! - https://kobocoin.com/oldsite.html

These Golix listings are definitely a step in the right direction, and just at the right time! I hope you guys enjoy the new service.

p.s. if you can't see the qr code or kobo address on the wallet deposit page then please refresh the page. There is a Feb update that will resolve this issue. (if you experience it).

Just to let you guys know that the Kobocoin White Paper is in progress. I'm reading the first draft as I type this. Once completed, it will be added to the website and I'll post a link here.

So far, the white paper is looking good.

Not healthy but, believe it or not, the spread is better! If the spread can remain within the range it's at for some time, then we might start to see more interest. Be patient. Wait for the white paper. I'm also in touch with a someone who can build and manage crypto communities.

Progress will continue.

Also, hopefully cryptopia will be back online soon.

After the default google authenticator 2FA was removed as mandatory (I had problems with that), I was able to log in ok but when I click wallets and goto the pull down menu there is no Kobocoin option so I can not create a deposite address and I searched kobo in the box which shows nothing either, i don't know were else to look, am perhaps doing something silly, I know you managed to deposit ok. Huh

Users who are not logged in see a big red warning sign here. A good move after the identity theft incident.

Maybe it's time for a new thread?

Kobocoin is a decentralised peer-to-peer digital currency and micro payment system. It was created by Felix Onyemechi Ugoji, a Nigerian entrepreneur and developer based in the UK.

 https://www.grantthornton.co.nz/press/press-releases-2019/cryptopia-limited-appoints-grant-thornton-as-liquidators/

David Ruscoe and Russell Moore from Grant Thornton New Zealand were yesterday appointed liquidators of Cryptopia Limited, a New Zealand cryptocurrency exchange based in Christchurch.
The highly publicised hack of Cryptopia’s exchange in January 2019 had a severe impact on the company’s trade. Despite the efforts of management to reduce cost and return the business to profitability, it was decided the appointment of liquidators was in the best interests of customers, staff and other stakeholders.
The liquidators are focused on securing the assets for the benefit of all stakeholders. While this process and investigations take place, trading on the exchange is suspended

I wonder how much they lost? Maybe the project will not get back on its feet and will work as usual. This is all hidden and silent.

I have finally got back my original account that got hacked 2 years ago  Grin

First things first. Sorry about Cryptopia. Beyond my control. I also lost KOBO and BTC. I would suggest that you use Golix or Coinexchange. Once the new initiative is rolled out I will start to look for other exchanges.

There's still some negative trust (showing a red thread if you're not logged in). This is because other members were kind enough to flag the account as being hacked and these flags need to be removed. One user has already removed the negative trust. I'm pushing for the other two guys to do the same.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=168257

I'll soon have a nice update for you all that involves some Kobocoin branded buses that will be in an African capital city sometime soon.
